Quote Chain (book giveaway too)
Winner is: (Random Integer Generator — Here are your random numbers: 14) – Organic Baby Clothes – Email me to claim your prize @ kim (@) mommyknows (dot) com
I’m borrowing this from an Outside Voice and copying the next sentence and 4 points below word for word. It’s not really a game…but the results can be interesting!
* Grab the book nearest you. Right now.
* Turn to page 11.
* Find the eleventh sentence.
* Post that sentence in a comment here; include the title of book and author.
Here is the quote, title and author that I used over at the Outside Voice.
Another mounted the steps, put his thumbs to his throat and slumped, twisting his face into a grisly parody of strangulation: the others whooped in admiration, and two dogs came running into the marketplace, barking.
The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett
I LOVE this book a lot. I also love my readers a lot, therefore, I am going to give one of you my used copy (read by me only, includes shipping). I will randomly choose one of the ‘quote comments’ tomorrow night (25 Nov’ 08 @ 9 pm PT). Promise you’ll pass if forward? Books are so much better if you share them with friends.
Good luck!
AND …
All comments and back-links for this post will be entered to win one of two Power Ranger action figures (includes shipping and handling) in my ‘Power Ranger Giveaway’. If you comment and blog about the Giveaway you’ll receive two entries (too easy). I’ll randomly choose two winners on December 1st, 2008 @ 9 p.m. –> make sure to come by and enter often.

what a fun game! my only problem is the only book that just happened to on the counter next to me was a book that does not have 11 sentences on page 11. So…the 11th sentence (started counting on page 11 but the sentence is on page 12):
“Rhamphorynchus was a flying fish-eater of the late Jurassic. Its name means “beak snout.”
DINOSAURS! by Kathy Wilmore
yeah…def. not MY book. My 3 year old is obsessed with dinosaurs. and were i to win the book, it would be 3rd on my “to read” list (almost halfway through #1 on my list), but i would def. pass it on. love me some book sharing! :)

So funny that you posted this book! I as at my BFF’s house today and she is reading it too.
I would play along, but my books are all upstairs in my room and I am lazy.
I love the paying it forward idea – I’ve been reading some good books lately and should send them along…

This took a bit of work. The closest bookish thing near me was an Ikea catalog. pg. 11 is living rooms. So I actually got up out of my chair and walked a few steps to the stairs where I have several books waiting to be nestled back on their teetering stacks.
First book I grab doesn’t begin until pg. 14. Next book same thing doesn’t start until pg. 13. I almost gave up. This is like homework in school.
Third book here we go: “Troy brought home broken and discarded trees, and in 1995, Kim brought home the first two broken and discarded horses.” from Bridge Called Hope: Stories of Triumph from the Ranch of Rescued Dreams by Kim Meeder. It’s about a nonprofit ranch in Oregon that rescues abused horses and pairs them with children in need.
I haven’t read the book yet but a friend I loaned it to said it was wonderful, hard to read because of the stories of abuse that these horses and kids have gone through but a wonderful read nonetheless.

Ha! You girls are killing me! Work! Never …
Okay for those to follow … I am not going to check your quotes for page 11, sentence 11 accuracy. So you can feel comfy using any old page you want, and any ‘ole sentence, if you must.
A big hand for Lace for her perseverance!

This is a fun idea, and I want to play along, but I try to steer clear of all things Oprah, so give some other poster the book! :)
“Most moms feel it is not cool to ask friends or relatives to watch their children while they do something like read a book at the coffee shop.”
Smart Mom’s Baby-sitting Co-op
-Gary Myers
Love this book, by the way, and am trying to get a co-op going with my neighbors. If anyone’s ever done a baby-sitting co-op, I’m curious how you liked it. (Not to hijack the comment thread or anything…)

“My One Hundred Adventures” by Polly Horvath
“I haven’t heard people talking of it.”
Not the most exciting sentence, but a good book regardless.
Fun game, thanks for brightening up my Tuesday morning!

It’s not a very exciting line but it’s the only book within my very-pregnant reach:
“Not only do differences exist in childbirth statistics by country, but differences exist within our own country as well.” (p. 11, l. 11)
The VBAC Companion: The Expectant Mother’s Guide to Vaginal Birth After Cesarean, by Diana Korte

“There are many aspects of multiple pregnancy outside of your control, but you can take an active role in keeping the placentas as healthy as possible by eating well, avoiding harmful substances, exercising as your pregnancy allows, and relaxing as needed.”
Whew…one long sentence that went into page 12! From the LLL book, Mothering Multiples. Needless to say it was the closest book on my nightstand and I haven’t read it in awhile. Why you ask? Because I feel the guilt every time I read! Love these books when I’m pregnant, hate them when I’m not.
Fun game!

So, how sad is this? The closest book to me is my son’s Awana book called Hang Glider. No apparent author, lol
“I’ll put that on my paper,” said Chloe.
That’s all you get. lol But I never win, I just come here cuz I like you! :P

Oh! Saw another version of this game on facebook… and I’ve been dying to read this Ken Follett book! If it’s as good as everyone says, though, I don’t know if I could give it up as you’re about to. But, a promise is a promise… :)
The closest book to me was my 9-year-old cousin’s comic and it only had 7 sentences on page 11. The next nearest, The Arts & Crafts Lifestyle and Design only had 9 (very long) sentences. I went to two more books; this time novels. First one started on p.13, the second one started a new chapter on p.11 w/six sentences. I finally found this:
“Fifteen years ago?” from “Let the Norther Lights Erase Your Name” by Vendela Vida.
Somewhat disappointing after all that hard work!
deborah · November 25, 2008 at 2:04 pm
I’ll play along, let me check what book is close by.
Well, this is technically the 11th sentence: “Whooo?”
From: The Last Sin Eater by Francine Rivers. :)
