Winter’s here. My kids are loving it. They spent most of the weekend outside building a snow-fort and tobogganing.
This kid loves winter, snow, skiing, tobogganing. Today it was -30c and she came home from school annoyed that their outdoor broom-ball game was canceled.
This kid comes in a close second. I love this photo of her coming out of the snow-fort on Saturday afternoon. She was out for hours and hours. I love the flakes on her lashes.
I am so thankful that Georgia has decided putting on mittens isn’t the END of life as she knows it.
I don’t like it when winter sneaks up on us before the summer toys get put away. That wasn’t the case this year, just a week ago we were basking in 15c (+55f). This year the toys were put away and then due to a fabulous fall, they all came back out. You can’t win :)
I won’t tell you how much I dislike it when people complain about the weather. I won’t …
There are certainly things I don’t LOVE about winter. Then again, there are things that I do love. Like this bright blue Alberta winter sky. It might have been -30 today, but it was -30 and sunny! It’s fabulous!
Tell me something you LIKE about winter :)

Awesome pics! I’m from Wyoming and we used to get snows like that when I was a kid. We used to sled down a huge hill by our house all the time.

@Hasbro Fur Real Pony, I love Wyoming too! Same big open skies :)
I miss the snow!! I grew up in North Idaho and had lots of snow every winter. Currently I live in the South so snow is only a wish most of the time. We had a rare dusting for Alabama Saturday morning when I woke up. It was just beautiful!
@Heidi, Thanks for stopping by Heidi! I love North Idaho. We’ve camped there several times.
I kind of like all the seasons when they start and I’m happy to see them go when the next one arrives.
Here in BC we are experiencing similar weather minus the snow – “sigh” however unlike some native BC’ers we LOVE this weather at our house. Cold and sunny makes for much, much happier people than wet and grey. Now send us some of that white stuff and this former prairie girl will be over the moon!
@Nikki, I love the coast, but I am not sure I could handle the gray and rain.
We have enough snow to share. I wish I could send some your way.
I think I would love winter more if I lived where there were blue skies like that, as well as snow! We don’t get snow here, and winter is usually just cold & wet. Not that much fun!!
BUT … you wanted us to tell you something we liked about winter … I like sitting by our wood burning fireplace and drinking hot chocolate! :-)

@Hannah, Thanks Hannah! We have the best blue skies.
Today, I am curled up on the couch with the woodstove going, the Christmas tree is twinkling and I have a hot cup of French vanilla coffee. Mmmm …
I love it!
I wish I knew how to enjoy being cold… it’s about 25ºF here and it’s just miserable to me. What am I doing wrong? How can I learn to love it?

@Naomi, Dress warmer :) Honestly … winter sucks when you are running from the car to the house in wrong shoes with no mitts.
Even if you can’t get yourself into liking the cold. You can teach the kids to like it by taking part in outdoor activities in the winter. Skiing, tobogganing, skating …
I don’t love being cold, but I do love how beautiful snow is! We still have rain and I’m starting to worry it won’t be a white Christmas. At least I can live vicariously through you and your crazy kids :) Good thing you take fabulous photos!
@Ashley, I don’t like being cold either. I rarely am. I spent a winter in Yellowknife when my oldest was a baby. It was often -50 below and I learned to dress properly.
I love love love the snow and the cold! It’s my favorite season. I love sledding, snow balls, snow angels, forts, everything. I grew up in CO where they get tons of snow some years. In Maryland we get a few rare storms but at least we get something. I’m starting to like the ice storms and wish we had more of them. I love that picture of Georgia with her lashes all snowy. It looks like tons of fun!

@Safire, YAY! Finally someone who loves snow :)
There are so many fun things to do in the winter!
What gorgeous photos!!
The beech trees are my favorite part of winter here. Their leaves turn a coppery color, and they stay on all winter. When you pass by a whole bunch of them it looks like a forest of copper. It’s really gorgeous…and they shine the brightest on gray day which makes a dreary day a little happier.

@Madeline, Thanks Madeline for stopping by. We have beech tree here, but it’s the first to loose it’s leaves and the last to get them. It’s pretty all summer though. I think our climate is just a tad too cold for it.
I can’t wait for snow but in Poland there’s no snow at all! too bad. I can’t wait for christmas I love when my family bundle together and when we can talk, eat and lough! :)
@Gry dla dziewczyn, Thanks for stopping by my blog Eliza. Merry Christmas to you :)
That is the bluest sky I have ever seen.
The only thing I like about winter is when there are those huge, fluffy snowflakes and the weather seems mild, and it looks like you’d get a beautiful picture from that (but you don’t). Other than that, I can’t stand winter.
.-= jafer´s last blog ..Hey, my beautiful car! =-.
@jafer, Really? It’s not my favorite season, but I’ve learned to like it. Easier that way :)
I like about two weeks of winter……….and lots of snow to play in. The trick is getting out there and doing it. Then you can’t help but enjoy winter. That’s why the kids love it. And you are right, it’s all about dressing warmly.
I know it’s sad to ask but what camera took the pics?
@Craig McGill, Not sad at all. I use a Nikon D300. Thanks for stopping by.
LOL! I love the disclosure part of your post. It cracked me up and now, I’m in good spirits at work. The pix are awesome btw! How do you get them that vibrant?
My kids just so love playing in the snow to. Unfortunately mommy doesn’t like the cold wet stuff very much so daddy has to participate in most of the winter holiday activities solo.
We just got back from a snowmobile trip, and it was like 8′ deep. We got stuck 30 times. What a blast out there.
One thing I love about winter is I get to play tons of video games when it is too cold/snowy to go outside. Lots of time on black ops perks for me.
