After Georgia put Sunlight dish soap in the fish tank, and KILLED the fish.
I was more than happy to drop her off at school.
She was upset, and has told me several times that, she is, “sorry for killing the fish”. Truthfully, I think that she was more concerned about my anger than the dead fish (I’ve have repeatedly cautioned her to stay out of the fish tank). She did ask me where the fish went (I flushed it while she was doing time out on her bed). Thinking I’d freak her out, I told her, “I’m going to fry it up and make you eat it for supper”. Without missing a beat, she informed me “It’s not enough, I’m a BIG eater”. It’s true … she is a big eater and it was a really small fish (2″).
She’s like Dennis the Menace the female version. Any naughty kids in your life?

That was a pretty big comeback for a little kid-….sort of funny too, not the fish dying…her wittyness
Don’t you just love it when you think you will really get them and they come back with a really smart comment? The joys of parenting.
Oh, Georgia! Were the other kids upset to lose a pet? Rob actually killed our pet fish in a similar way. Well, he wasn’t being “naughty” and pouring soap in, but he removed the stones to wash them with some quite strong disinfectant, and despite rinsing them LOTS, the chemicals must still have been present. Bye bye, fish.
I do love her smart comment about the fish not being big enough for her dinner! What a character she is!

Oh, snap! What a comeback. Jack would have never done this, but Alexandra would have poisoned, electrocuted, and hunted the fish by now if they were not out of her reach.

Ooh, boy… she looks like an angel, but what a stinker! As long as she doesn’t move on to bigger pets, she should be okay… ha!

I was a lot like Georgia when I was young! My only sister is 10 years older than me. One evening, she and her boyfriend (now my brother-in-law), were in our living room! Being the young and nosy sister, I kept using the excuse to check on and feed my fish to go and spy on them. I feed the fish way to much and they ended up dying. Send Georgia my way…..Thanks, Cindi
Do you plan to get other fishes to fill this beautiful tank ?I think your angel will not kill them all this time.
But, fish LIKE playing in bubbles… don’t they? I’ve read that kids don’t begin to develop a conscience until age 5 or so. In a world that is completely me-centred, the worst thing about killing the fish IS mum’s anger. Presumably the fish tank will get a new tenant so the only down-side is putting up with upset mum for a bit – the immediate up-side of seeing what happens when is a hard temptation to resist!
Oh the stories you are going to be able to tell at her wedding….I’m sure that her curiousity now will result in great things when she’s older.

My two year old poured the fish food in the fish tank and bye bye fish.
Poor Georgia! She must feel awful about killing the fish. How frustrating though! Something about being continually told not to do things makes its even more appetizing. I could tell you many whoppers about the shenanigans my kids get into. Just be thankful that you only have 1 at that age :O)
Too cute about her response about needing more for supper then 2 fish… that’ll make you smile every time you think about it after you calm down!

I did something similar when I was small, I thought all fish needed salty water to survive so I had dumped salt in the fish tank. Nope not good, they didn’t like it at all!!!
I have you tagged on my blog. Come check it out here: http://alatteinthemorning.blogspot.com/2008/10/my-very-first-tag.html
Have a wonderful day!
Little monkey!
I am sure she is very sorry!
OMG that is too funny, only because it happened to you and not me. I have a little Dennis the Mennis here…last week we had a big poop mess on the bathroom floor. He er…missed when wiping and then tried to clean up what hit the floor using MY JEANS. Yeah, not fun. I need to learn not to leave my clothes laying on the bathroom floor.

That sucks! Reminds me of a story my Mom told us. When she was a child, she thought her pet goldfish might be cold. So…she put on the kettle, and added some hot water to the goldfish bowl.
Needless to say, the poor fish did not have to worry about being cold ever again…
my neice had a pet Beta for about a week. It died because she kept picking it up and playing with it! She felt so awful that she killed it, she literally cried to the dead fish ‘why didn’t you tell me?’. She is four :>

Kind of random, but what kind of camera did you use? lol.. its a nice picture :)
I bought my daughter a fish and I was sure she would do something like this and kill it. The next day I came home from work and sure enough it was dead….though surprisingly she had nothing to do with it, it just died. Given time I’m sure she would have killed it on her own.
Oh my. Can’t blame her, she is just a kid. Thanks for sharing. Hope to see your new posts soon.
smart comment! love it :)
Sometimes, you will be caught off guard with smart comments from the kids. I often find myself in that situation.
That’s too funny “I’m a BIG eater…” That kid’s got chutzpah. It’s nice to see you are able to joke around with your kids.
I’m curious, how did you manage to collect so many Starbucks coffee cards? What a perfect giveaway for all us worn out moms in need of a pick me up!

When collecting fish for a freshwater aquarium it is always great to seek some advice from your local pet shop. They are the experts and what they say should be given great consideration. They explain to you the process in which bacteria builds up.
