Well the kids are back to school. I can’t say I am happy about it. I dread the morning rush. The … where are your shoes? WHAT, you left your backpack outside in the rain? For the 10th time brush your hair and put on your effing socks!

You get the idea, right?

Sam n Liz
Which is why, they looked so excited to start off the school year on Tuesday morning.

I tried to take a couple of individual pictures maybe alone they’d smile (they weren’t getting along that well).

Grumpy Sam
Sam

Nope … that didn’t work! Now, I am NOT happy, thanks guys – great pictures. This wasn’t going to cut it. Soooo in my mean ‘Major Mom’ voice I snarled … GET. BACK. OVER. BY. THAT. TREE. and SMILE!

NOW.

Smile ...
I said SMILE and pretend you like each other.

Sam n Liz
BIGGER …

I said smile!
That’s better … in fact it so good that the Flickr Group – POSITIVE OUTLOOK ON LIFE asked me to become a member and use this photo.

NOW. MARCH!

Liz n Sam
Off we go …

Liz n Sam
KEEP. YOUR. HANDS. OFF. YOUR. BROTHER.

Liz n Sam
And we’re off.

We’ve got a little bit of re-training to work on, but the troops will be in ship shape before you know it.

To be the next winner (or maybe even win again), you need only leave a comment.

EVERY day in September I’m giving away free prizes (maybe more, but at least one). Just like in the past the winners will be randomly drawn and posted here on the site.

The winners will be able to choose one of any of the prizes listed on the flickr set: Super September. Once an item is chosen, it will be removed from flickr and will no longer be available (unless I have two … which I do for some).

All you have to do to win each day’s prize is leave a comment on the most current post.

All prizes are provided by: www.thebabymarketplace.com in conjuction with www.mommyknows.com

So cute! I love the pictures where they’re both humoring you and smiling pretty for the camera. Hope they had a great day at school!

Amanda · September 6, 2007 at 10:19 am

*LOL* So funny – I love the “what?! we didn’t do anything” fake innocent look. Sure seems like kids learn that look so quickly! They both have such beautiful smiles when they are willing to show them off.

Teresa · September 6, 2007 at 10:21 am

I remember the first day of school pictures myself. They look cute and ready for a good school year! Good luck :)

Andrea · September 6, 2007 at 10:33 am

haha…that is too funny! The last pic really is a good one though. Oh, and your kids have the BLUEST most beautiful eyes ever!!! I think that every time I see pics of them! :)

glittersmama · September 6, 2007 at 10:38 am

I second Andrea with the beautiful eyes. Wow!

Safire · September 6, 2007 at 11:44 am

Ha! They look thrilled to be going. Hope they are liking it, despite the looks in the picture. :)

Karyne · September 6, 2007 at 11:51 am

What great pictures. I can follow the story. You are funny Kim and your kids too.

Beth · September 6, 2007 at 12:07 pm

I wish I could tell my 17 month old to smile in pictures and he would follow directions :)

Christina · September 6, 2007 at 12:10 pm

Classic back to school pics! Love it!

Kelly · September 6, 2007 at 12:23 pm

Awesome matching camo hat and backpack! I love the little girly accessory on the hat too. Is she choosing her own clothes already or do you still get to find the cute outfits? :-)

Kelly · September 6, 2007 at 12:25 pm

Hey wait, what happened to the backpack in the last couple pics?

Neisha · September 6, 2007 at 12:32 pm

Very Cute! What? No books!

Sarah W. · September 6, 2007 at 12:34 pm

Cute story! The fake smiles actually look kinda real in those pics! :) Anything to humor Mom, right?

Marcy · September 6, 2007 at 12:38 pm

HA HA HA, That is totally how it goes with pictures. They will appreciate it late in life….RIGHT?

MommyKnows · September 6, 2007 at 1:01 pm

The back packs were so heavy with school supplies they ended up on the hood of the stroller!

Jamie · September 6, 2007 at 1:06 pm

HAHAHAHAHAAA!! I love it!

Cherylyn · September 6, 2007 at 1:17 pm

Man, those eyes, too cute! It always warms my heart to have to force my kids to smile! Cause you know, their lives are soooo tough! Happy back to school!

Brooke · September 6, 2007 at 1:33 pm

Those are such sweet pictures. My daughter looks utterly miserable in her first day of school photo.

Deanne S. · September 6, 2007 at 1:39 pm

Great pictures. Just think of all the “free” time you will have now…

Mrs. Pear · September 6, 2007 at 2:36 pm

Great Pictures!

I was at the Mom Group’s cry coffee this morning, just as support, our daughter is only 27 months old, but I gotta tell you, the moms did not look to broken up about it!

Jenny M · September 6, 2007 at 2:39 pm

Great Pictures especailly where you forced them to smile=).
Gotta love those strollers=). DId you read Lynn Johnston’s cartoon in the Sunday paper- I could totally realate to backpack heaviness

Nikki · September 6, 2007 at 3:06 pm

great pics…love the commentary (as usual)

Michelle · September 6, 2007 at 3:16 pm

I am definately crying about the first day of school. What a pain in the butt 1/2 day kindergarden is. I think this year is going to kill me!!

Naomi · September 6, 2007 at 3:21 pm

I wish we lived close enough to walk to school. How great!

Kilikina · September 6, 2007 at 3:37 pm

Those are great pictures. I can’t believe how BLUE thier eyes are and how BLONDE their hair is…

Michelle · September 6, 2007 at 5:05 pm

You are hysterical. Your comments sound a lot like me, too!

Denette · September 6, 2007 at 5:28 pm

I can’t say that I look forward to those days.

Mama K · September 6, 2007 at 6:16 pm

Hannah · September 6, 2007 at 7:37 pm

Great pics!! The smiles actually look genuine!

Lisa · September 6, 2007 at 8:06 pm

Those pictures are great:)

Kami · September 6, 2007 at 8:08 pm

Too funny! And the blue of their eyes is amazing:-)

Lucy · September 6, 2007 at 8:45 pm

Those pictures are pretty hilarious. Could they be a little less excited about school?

Tasha · September 6, 2007 at 10:45 pm

You’ve got some pretty good models there!

alyson · September 6, 2007 at 11:47 pm

Too funny. I didn’t bother taking first day pictures because it was too traumatic. My oldest (8) didn’t want me anywhere near him and the next one (6) didn’t want to go. In fact I got called down because he decided that he was done for the day at lunch. I thought about doing a week in review but the next day my 6 year old came home crying so no pics that day either. Today I forgot. Maybe I’ll forge his school pics like I did my oldests second birthday. SSShhh don’t tell.

Bree · September 6, 2007 at 11:52 pm

those are great pictures! I love how you made them smile..hehe I get to do that for the first time next week!! eeee!!!

Diane · September 7, 2007 at 12:25 am

Good luck with back to school… I still have a few years before I deal with that!

Mefeng · September 7, 2007 at 12:50 am

How cute!! and funny!!! You have very beautiful kids.

Marla · September 7, 2007 at 5:24 am

I’m a homeschooler, so I can’t relate! I’ve started with my 3yo this year (did I mention he can already read at about a grade 5 level)? School is fun for us ~ but of course I’m not trying to run a very busy business on the side AND my other kids are all grown so I don’t have more than one to worry about (at least as far as school is concerned)

Carey · September 7, 2007 at 5:45 am

Cute pictures. Hope they are enjoying school.

Kait · September 7, 2007 at 6:35 am

My sister and I have similar pics from our school days. My son starts school next year. Uugghhh!

Deb · September 7, 2007 at 8:12 am

That’s quite the compliment from Flickr! Great job.

lace · September 7, 2007 at 8:19 am

My mom only took first day of kindergarten pictures. The only other first day of school picture was when My younger brother started kindergarten and then I was in that picture too. How fun it would have been to have first day pictures from every year.

Laura · September 7, 2007 at 8:55 am

Great pics! What a story they tell, lol.

jw4mkc · September 7, 2007 at 8:58 am

Hey, I know that voice!! The mom drill instructor voice – I use it quite often!! & heard my mom use it and she even said “act like you love each other” – quite often now that I think of it! :)

Heather · September 7, 2007 at 9:34 am

Your children are beautiful (even when they don’t smile). :)

Charlotte · September 7, 2007 at 9:55 am

Love Sam’s missing front teeth…I wonder what he will ask for, for Christmas…

alison · September 7, 2007 at 10:56 am

What a great series of photos. I’m sure most of those cute smiling family photos you see come after a series such as this . . . only nobody scrapbooks the first five.

serina · September 7, 2007 at 12:16 pm

So funny. My kids never smile at the same time in photos. Wish I had Photoshop so I could do some cutting and pasting!

Tasha · September 7, 2007 at 12:31 pm

Love Liz’s hat! Do you have them in 4 month old size?

Jaime Stephens · September 7, 2007 at 2:14 pm

I didn’t even notice that you mentioned flickr asked to use your photo for their group. What an amazing compliment! Congrats!

Alexia · September 7, 2007 at 2:15 pm

Great pictures!

Just think – all the time you have to sit on the computer now and not feel guilty :)

Kathryn · September 7, 2007 at 2:34 pm

ROFL! I LOVE it.

Amanda · September 7, 2007 at 5:13 pm

I just can’t get over your kids’ eyes. Bluer than blue!

Joa · September 7, 2007 at 6:56 pm

Hilarante cette rentrée!

Angella · September 7, 2007 at 8:13 pm

Your kids have the most AMAZING BLUE EYES!

Bonnie · September 7, 2007 at 9:15 pm

so cute. and blue eyes to boot.

Suzanne · September 7, 2007 at 9:27 pm

At least you remembered to take pictures before they got to school… doh!

Yan · September 7, 2007 at 10:35 pm

Awww, great pictures, I just love your kids’ eyes !

Pauline · September 7, 2007 at 10:48 pm

Great Story kim,

I think that your photos probably represent a significant proportion of mothers on the first day of school. I managed one photo before we left the house and gave up at school as I knew it was not worth the battle!

Keep up the blog stories, I love hearing all about your news.

I recently won some Blu clothing – do you have any new Blu coming in for this winter?

corey · September 7, 2007 at 11:54 pm

LOL this totally killed me! I will soon be posting pictures of my girly on her first day of preschool…and I got some grumpy looks too! :)

Deborah · September 8, 2007 at 11:07 am

I totally remember the first day of school, and the non-stop bickering with my little sister. Great pics!

Heather · September 8, 2007 at 12:07 pm

My parents always used to make me hold up my fingers to indicate my grade number…I think it’s wise you didn’t do that…and it gets challenging after the 10th grade. :)

leslie · September 8, 2007 at 3:16 pm

…love the HANDS OFF YOUR BROTHER pic…i have about 10 years of those, then they went to different high schools…whew!

Vicki · September 8, 2007 at 4:41 pm

Great pics! My younger son has light blonde hair like your boy.

Deb · September 8, 2007 at 4:50 pm

I agree with a pp – Lizzy’s hat is super cute!!

jen · September 8, 2007 at 5:36 pm

Oh I love it! I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve hissed at them to force a happy moment. Your pics look so good too, all camera geek-wise ;)

Susy Domenicano · September 8, 2007 at 6:11 pm

I thought back to school was supposed to be…”the most wonderful time of the year!”. Or so the commercial says. Your children have the MOST blue eyes I have ever seen.

Jess · September 8, 2007 at 6:51 pm

Cute. We had a similiar photo shoot at our home – out eldest started Kindergarten and middle boy started preschool. It’s been very different around here! Thanks for sharing the great pics.

Colleen · September 8, 2007 at 7:14 pm

Hi! I clicked over from Oh My Stinkin Heck.

Your children are gorgeous. Both have just amazing eyes. Hysterical post too!

Kim · September 8, 2007 at 7:56 pm

Too adorable! I am so going to cry when my youngest starts, that seems a world away still. He’ll be two in December.

kelli · September 8, 2007 at 8:50 pm

Sweet! We had the preschool photoshoot this week.

Leta · September 8, 2007 at 8:50 pm

At least they aren’t saying “CHEESE!”

maddiesmom · September 8, 2007 at 9:21 pm

Great photos!

captain corky · September 8, 2007 at 10:58 pm

Very cute Pictures!!!

melissa · September 8, 2007 at 11:21 pm

Love the drill sargent comments… I could totally see myself doing the same!

melissa · September 8, 2007 at 11:26 pm

p.s. I should win because my mom forgot my 30th birthday last week, and my DH got mono too. :-o

Kelly · September 9, 2007 at 12:40 am

Love those shots with the commentary ;) Hope they had a great day!

Aileen · September 9, 2007 at 7:49 am

These pictures made me laugh!! :-) Especially the “smile bigger” and then “march” comments.

Mine are only 2 and 4 but I look forward to the same thing someday. :)

KYouell · September 9, 2007 at 9:51 am

My family never had this tradition of photos on the first day of school when I was growing up, but I’ve seen it on a lot of blogs this fall. I’m going to start it with my kids, now 2 years and 4 months, when they start school. I love it.

kiki · September 9, 2007 at 6:06 pm

Ohh, Their eyes are sooo blue.

Deb on the Rocks · September 9, 2007 at 6:15 pm

Back to school just kills the joy of Sunday night, doesn’t it?

Tasha · September 9, 2007 at 9:25 pm

And week number two starts……

Diane · September 9, 2007 at 10:24 pm

I wish I had back to school photos like those…what a great memory!

Monica · September 9, 2007 at 11:35 pm

My two year old started pre-preschool on Friday. It was very sad…I look forward to the days where it is a relief to send them away for a few hours during the day!!

Kim · September 10, 2007 at 3:03 am

What beautiful eyes they both have! Wow.

Kendra · September 10, 2007 at 7:39 am

I can so relate to this craziness! I sent my second grader and Kindergartener off. Thank goodness I still have jack at home!

Aimee · September 10, 2007 at 9:25 am

Cute Story! I do the same thing!

ktjrdn · September 10, 2007 at 9:40 am

even with all that, you got some great shots

Laura · September 10, 2007 at 11:35 am

but they did smile…

lace · September 10, 2007 at 11:45 am

My niece starts preschool this week. I can’t believe it. I think she is too young to start but that’s my opinion. I’m not going to be able to take her picture this week because I am out of town. I better tell her grandmother to take some pictures.

Jenny M · September 10, 2007 at 2:19 pm

A friend of mine had a great idea with those back to school photos- have the kids hold up fingers for what grade that they are in- so you don’t forget when you’re looking at photos years from now=)

Ellen · September 10, 2007 at 7:13 pm

I love them walking away, so cool, and still so small.

Aileen · September 11, 2007 at 12:39 pm

How are the kids enjoying school so far?

Are they sad summer ended as quickly as it did?

Rachel · September 12, 2007 at 8:11 am

Your kids are soooo cute! I especially love your daughter’s outfit; where did you get it?

Aileen · September 14, 2007 at 7:24 am

I love your daughter’s jacket. Do you think they make them in size 3t?
