Start Spreading the News, I am Leaving Today …
I want to be a part of it, New York, New York …
As you can tell, I couldn’t be more excited. I’ve been around the world, but I’ve never been to the BIG apple. Did I mention, that I am excited? I’ve been singing ‘New York, New York’ enough that Mr. MK has insisted I stop, unless he starts to resent my good fortune! I know, I’m no Frank Sinatra, but really … spoil sport!
If New York weren’t enough, the reason I’m traveling to New York is even more exciting. Me, the woman, who said, ‘crafts, schmafts‘ is attending a taping of the MARTHA STEWART show! Squeal! I think I outed my closeted love for Martha in my ‘Stark Raving Mad‘ post, it’s the one where I crafted Sam’s old t-shirts in to panties for Georgia (and he was mortified).
HOW?
Several weeks ago, I saw a call-out to all blog / twitter /facebook lovers to apply to attend a Martha Stewart show dedicated to Social Media. It suited me to a ‘T’, so I filled out a fairly lengthy online form, including a mini-essay on ‘why I was suited to attend’ and then promptly forgot about it. Really, what were the chances? With all the bloggers, and twitter users, and facebook lovers out there, the chance of ‘little ‘ole me’ (well BIG OLD me) from the Canadian prairies being picked seemed pretty darn slim.
Needless to say, I was GOBSMACKED, when I received an urgent email (just last week), confirming my ticket for the ‘Tech Show’. WHOO-FRICKEN-HOO! I did a little jig, and then just a quickly as I was UP, I was DOWN. I read a little closer, it was only a week away, in New York, I’d have no time to save up. It’s September, a tough month for us, there are school fees, and supplies, and school clothes, and downhill skiing team fees, and well, you get the idea. There was NO way, I was going to New York. Just no stinkin’ way.
When I was a kid, my mother was always saying, “you make me crazy, you never take no for answer!”
Not a lot has changed over the years, even as I was sure there wasn’t a way. I was typing out my RSVP to Martha’s peeps. Come hell or high water, I was going to New York, and I was going to the Martha Stewart show.
HOW?
Bloody good question, at that point I didn’t have a clue. I remembered, my friend Liz of thisfullhouse.com, telling me in Chicago, how she’d once been sponsored to go to blogHer. I needed her opinion. Did she think a trip to NYC to attend a Martha Stewart event on social media was a sponsor-able event? She did, and she’s a smart cookie (and nice too), if you aren’t already you should be reading her blog.
I reached out. Crest and Oral-B like the idea. They’re excited for me! They’re flying me to New York and providing me with a fabulous Midtown hotel.
I couldn’t be happier. Crest and Oral-B are staples in our life. Products I use (have always used) and trust. Friday I received a great package in the mail. To make my experience as memorable as possible they’ve put together a pre-Martha package so I can flash my brightest and whitest smile for the Camera!
It’s working, not a word of lie … it’s been just 3 days, and my teeth are visibly whiter. Thanks to the Oral-B Pulsonic toothbrush (slimmest power toothbrush in Canada), Crest Pro-Health Whitening toothpaste (whitens and protects), Crest Whitestrips Advanced Seal (newest at home whitening strips, and may I just say … these SEAL to your teeth … awesome), Scope White mouthwash (with enamel safe whitener), and Crest Glide Whitening Plus Scope floss (doesn’t shred … finally!).
NOTE: Don’t forget the toothbrush, paste, mouthwash and floss pictured above are the same products you’re eligible to win in the ‘Just say “NO†to Cavities – Giveaway Sponsored by Oral-B and Crest‘ . Get on over there and enter!
As you read this, I am ‘en route’ to New York. I’ll be photographing, blogging and twittering (follow me) the trip and the Martha Stewart show taping! I hope you’ll follow along with me.
I want to know, have you ever been to New York City? If so, I need some ‘you can’t miss‘ recommendations please. If you haven’t, what would be on the top of your ‘must see‘ list?
See you in the City!
MK xo

wooohoo! congratulations! i am a tiny bit green. ;) i’ve been to NYC once, when i was (very) pregnant with my first. I went for a women’s conference with my church. I LOVED just walking around the streets by myself in the morning and having breakfast (by myself). i don’t know why, but it was just kinda romantic for some reason to be alone surrounded by people. I didn’t get a ton of sight-seeing in w/the conference + being pregnant (& out of shape). I would LOVE to go back w/my husband sometime & do more touring & see a show ect.
have fun flashing those pearly whites around town! i’ll have to look up when the show comes on to record it to see you. you WILL tell us right? :)

Good Lord Woman … you never cease to amaze me! I am so proud of you and can’t wait to see all the photos and commentary of your trip. I only wish I had known about it too — as maybe I could have joined (if my essay were good enough!).
You rock. And you will rock NY.
Love,
Jodi

Have an awesome time, Kim!! I love New York, it’s such an awesome city. I vividly remember being STUCK IN A TRAFFIC JAM AT 2 AM, while heading into Manhattan from JFK. INCREDIBLE. It’s definitely the city that never sleeps, which I just love. Not sure I could live there, but it’s an amazing place to visit. Can’t wait to hear all about your trip! :-)
