Mmmmm … Saturday!

Published by on

I am doing what I usually do on a Saturday morning, which is almost always NOTHING productive. My saintly husband who gets to do nothing on Sunday morning, has already vacuumed the whole main floor and cleaned the kitchen. Nope – you can’t have him … he’s ALL mine!

I am still in bed …

a welcome companion
with Georgia! She is a welcome companion.

Psst … just in case you’re wondering I will cut Georgia rat’s nest hair soon.

I am having a …

a cuppa joe
cuppa Joe and reading blogs.

I love this cup Sam made. That’s a Pokemon battle going on. I was quite thrilled that he voluntarily chose to use more than one colour. His teachers complain that he rushes through his art projects using just one colour, any colour … I am assuming that it is the one closest to his hand at the time. The boy just ain’t artsy-fartsy.

Georgia is watching cartoons. I don’t like cartoons, never really have. Well … I did love the Flintstones as a kid, but mostly I like things that seem like ‘real life’ (the Road Runner made me CRAZY). It’s true of art, movies, tv and writing … oh and even hair dye. I always tell my colourist, “It has to be a colour that could actually occur in nature – NO burgundy!”

Which brings me to Patterns of Ink a great blog written by Tom in Michigan. I am on Chapter 5 of Bringing Home the Duncan Phyfe. I have to say that I am LOVING the story so far. Real life 1950’s stuff (how would I know right?). Tom, I have to say that you have your mother’s talent of making things ‘cozy’.

Go on over girls … you won’t be sorry!

What do you do on a Saturday morn?

Your photos are splendid, writing crisp and descriptive, and the suggested blogs appreciated. Will have to return when I have my own place set up here.

Shalom

Saturday morning is the same as every other morning. Zoe wakes up… I go get her… we have breakfast and watch a little Noggin. Thrilling, huh?

well, it has been in the 30s and 40s here – I know Freezing right..haha – well, to us Texans it is.. But, today it is alomst 70 and I got the kids and went with a neighbor and her kids to the park. J scraped up her knee good, but it was mostly my fault. I let her wear her no knee pants and well, now she has no knee.. sheesh!

I try to sleep in and hope that my darling will get up with DS. Other than that it’s cleaning and catching up with the laundry.

I LOVE her hair. It is so fun.

Chase a toddler.

I love Georgia’s halo!

Cocoa · January 5, 2008 at 4:09 pm

We clean the house first thing so we can play the rest of the day.

Heather · January 5, 2008 at 4:18 pm

Sleep in, go jogging (or walking now that I’m 7 months pregnant), and make a time consuming breakfast while my husband entertains our son…it’s a luxurious break from the norm… :)

ALF · January 5, 2008 at 4:31 pm

Found your site from dooce’s – just stopped by to say hi.

Your husband did what??? I. Am. Jealous.

Divrchk · January 5, 2008 at 6:45 pm

My kids are up early so my I signed my son up for swimming lessons at 8:50am. Yup, I’m a bit crazy but we’re up anyway and I think that swimming is important.

Stacey · January 5, 2008 at 6:46 pm

Oh my, you have the sweetest little angel! She’s adorable!!

Alexia · January 5, 2008 at 7:23 pm

LOVE the cup! I can’t wait ’til my boys can bring home stuff like that for me.

Unfortunately I did not get to stay in bed this morning. My wonderful LO decided to get up at 7:30…..boo!

holly* · January 5, 2008 at 7:52 pm

on a normal saturday morning we sleep in a little (yes, i am the proud owner of a toddler who “sleeps in”) and then go for a late breakfast at one of our favorite local places. we tend to repeat this on sunday mornings too…

Kristian · January 5, 2008 at 10:01 pm

Sleep in? I can hardly recall sleep. I seem to spend way too much time contemplating ways to spend money when I should be sleeping. Speaking of that, I linked in through your shop. Its fantastic by the way! I also posted a link on my site to get a double entry into your draw.

Oh-and I love that mug. My baby is too young for artwork just yet, but I can’t wait.

Michelle · January 5, 2008 at 10:12 pm

Hmm saturday morning?? If we the kids permit we sleep in until 8am. We usually take turns one on Saturday and the other on sunday for a longer sleep in. Today I went snowboarding and the kids had a babysitter at home. Had a great time!

Jaime Stephens · January 5, 2008 at 11:38 pm

Saturday morning I lay in bed as long as I can. This morning my 19 month old was up bright and early but luckily with some excellent mommy cuddles she nodded back off again for another hour. I didn’t do much of anything today. We watched Surf’s Up… love that show. Its one of my favorites.

Tasha · January 6, 2008 at 12:38 am

I actually got to sleep in today until 9am! My 8 month old has reverted back to getting up during the night again. I remember the cartoons as a kid – I can’t remember the name of the one I liked the best but I do remember that it was on at 10:30 am saturdays. I was so upset when they cancelled it!

Susy-Q · January 6, 2008 at 9:42 am

Saturday morning is my morning to sleep in. So I sleep in, with ear plugs so as not to hear baby or hubby. It’s wonderful. I love Saturdays. When I get up I have breakfast and then we usually go out for a walk or for a visit with friends or family.

I love your cup and your daughter’s hair. Some people pay good money to have that look. She’s a real doll.

Jamie · January 6, 2008 at 9:56 am

Yesterday we lazed around, had a bunch of tea, watched movies, and were generally lazy all morning.

Ahhh. Bliss.

Amanda · January 6, 2008 at 9:58 am

I am always hoping that each Saturday will finally be the one that I can sleep in (as I did before my dd was born). But, alas, every Saturday I am awoken by at least 6:30am by my dd – I don’t know how but my husband is able to sleep through it EVERY time!!

Then we always listen to “Car Talk” every Saturday morning with my husband. Yup, we’re nerds! *laugh*

katie bowen · January 6, 2008 at 11:49 am

ahhhh…saturday is MINE too!! well, a bit of it is…my other half takes the early riser until a more resonable hour…like 7:30am…so i can SLEEP IN…THE MOST WONDERFUL THING IN THE WORLD! it is total bliss and happiness to just get to lay there and wake up on my own terms. LOVELY! (we like Car Tawlk too ;)

ps- georgia’s hair looks good…tres cute

KathrynB · January 6, 2008 at 12:13 pm

Saturday mornings look more or less the same as any other morning! Darn it anyway. Up early with the kiddoes trying to get stuff done (ha ha!). I like your cup too! Nice job Sam!

Deb · January 6, 2008 at 12:15 pm

Ah saturdays…the one day of the week where I plan to do either nothing, or just something for myself…and it never works out. My Saturdays are usually spent cleaning and cooking for 4 people, instead of 3. (good thing hubby doesn’t read this!) not too exciting!

Naomi · January 6, 2008 at 3:01 pm

Are you sure I can’t borrow him? Just one morning? Or maybe he could call my hubby up and tell him what to do?

Joa · January 6, 2008 at 3:57 pm

Nous sommes allés faire l’épicerie en famille ce matin. Il n’y avait PERSONNE! C’était fantastique, nous pouvions prendre notre temps!

Paige · January 6, 2008 at 7:27 pm

Oh, she is so darn cute! And your hubby cleans? Wow!

sherry · January 6, 2008 at 7:29 pm

Lovely. What an awesome companion and what an awesome husband! Enjoy one day you will open your eyes and that lovely child will be 25 and married and expecting. That is what is going on here. I cannot tell enough about it. I am so excited. They have already decided that I will be called “nanna”. Enjoy and have a Blessed week

Lisa · January 6, 2008 at 7:38 pm

Don’t cut her hair. It is adorable!! Saturday mornings I encourage the kids to climb into bed with us. Turn on Bob the Builder and try to chill before starting the day.

jenn · January 6, 2008 at 7:42 pm

I love me some saturday mornings.. best mornings ever. although i wish my husband was vacuuming, although I have to say he does help out a lot! im lovin georgia’s hair actually!

Caryn B · January 6, 2008 at 11:06 pm

It rained all day so we just stayed in and relaxed! I love lazy Saturdays…

Tara · January 7, 2008 at 12:04 am

your daughter has beautiful hair~ don’t cut it until you absolutely have to! My sweet baby girl barely has any hair at all! I can’t wait to have to brush it!

lace · January 7, 2008 at 12:21 pm

stay in my pjs as long as possible. Although, that isn’t much different from other days.

Cindi Hoppes · January 7, 2008 at 4:01 pm

Georgia is a doll. I have the same type of husband! Aren’t we lucky?! Cindi

Robynl · January 7, 2008 at 11:43 pm

when dh is up I still have puppy wuppy to snuggle up to; dh is not cleaning the kitchen though, I can tell you.

Laura · January 8, 2008 at 3:10 pm

I haven’t checked your blog in a bit, but I felt a strong need to post my similar feelings on the Road Runner. I can’t STAND that show! It really bugged me… though perhaps not for the same reasons as yourself. What I hated was that the Wile E. Coyote is a QUITTER. He would come up with this elaborate plan to trap the Road Runner, run into a small glitch, and then toss the plan for another. And he never caught the dang bird! So frustrating, like a bad dream where you can’t ever seem to accomplish the thing you are trying to accomplish.

Sigh. [rant over]
