I’ve Been Shopping …

Published by on

I’ve been clothes shopping (for me). Ahhh, it was awful. It was depressing. As usual I left the store with a pair of jeans (pants are easy for me to buy) and no shirts (what I went to buy). I have M A S S I V E shoulders and a W I D E back and H U G E boobs, all of it makes buying tops nearly impossible. If I get them to fit my shoulders, back and boobs, they are too big at the hips.

On a happier note, I did find some really cute jeans and they were quite cheap! If I could just ignore all the bits hanging over the waistband, life would be grand.

I’d do anything to loose weight … anything … except diet and exercise! I draw the line at diet and exercise.

I want to know where you shop … especially if you are BIG on top like me. I need help.

Oh Kim, you make me laugh!! I feel just the same as you. Everytime I shop I wish to be 10lb lighter. But then I go home and I just can’t be bothered dealing with the diet & exercise thing! I do go to the gym but only because I get a bad case of the guilts if I don’t (I pay monthly … in advance).

The places I shop wouldn’t help you since I live in another hemisphere. But I hope others can give you some good ideas!

We live too far out in the boonies to shop so I buy everything online usually from Lands’ End. They have a “Virtual Model” that tries the clothes on for me. I haven’t been disappointed yet!

Ricki’s. They are the only place that I know I can fit something in nice pants AND tops. Some are S M L XL, but they now have a lot of lines with size 0 through size 18.

I would bet money that if you bought something to fit upper-upper-body, we could fit the rest with one of my sewing machines, some pins and a coffee (although best drank after because nobody wants a caffeine-jittery person anywhere near them with tailoring pins.
I would do my own clothes this way, but it’s hard to get pins into one’s own garment when one is wearing said garment. (At least, in MY klutzy world it is.)

I feel your pain Kim! I like H&M and Rickis too, and Old Navy. They all have a borad size range and current styles. Since I’ve seen you I’ll let your readers know that you aren’t BIG! Oh, and I’m with ya on the doing anything but diet and exercise. I’m in the exact same place.

@Kristian, as for me I have the same issues as you do Kim, yet on top of it I don’t have the budget to shop around for fancy stores that have great fitting clothes- nor can I afford to rush to the tailor to make sure things are altered to my body type. With that being said, I love Old Navy because they really do have GREAT prices and fabulous clothes in a variety of sizes (which makes shopping that much more enjoyable for me)! I also use coupons from my favorite site http://www.cheapsally.com/oldnavy so that I can save even more money and get more stuff!

I need new jeans. I refuse to buy anything in my current size. Really.

I get a lot of clothes at Old Navy. I have a different problem. I have NO boobs but wide ribs (guess that’s what two babies do to women with short torsos!)

Safire · March 26, 2008 at 6:20 am

I don’t have this problem…I have long legs and long arms that make it difficult to buy anything. But I second Cocoa’s suggestion of Land’s End. They have some nice things and I’ve never been unhappy with their things.

I agree with the no diet and exercise. Those few extra pounds apparently aren’t worth the effort even though I would look alot better without them.

Andria · March 26, 2008 at 7:08 am

I’m not in a shopping frame of mind (or body) yet. These hips still need to shrink some. :/

I hate to shop! I have the opposite problem. I can never find jeans that fit well. My bottom half is bigger. I shop at Old Navy, Kohl’s, and anywhere else jeans might fit.

Can’t help you much. I shop wherever it’s cheap. The cheaper the better!

I have gigantic shoulders, too, and nursing mommy boobs so nothing fits. I’ve been in t-shirt mode for a while now.

We have exactly the opposite problems! I am sorry, but you get no empathy from me for having a large chest. Mine didn’t even get bigger when I was pregnant! Shirts, sweater, etc. are what I buy the most of. Pants are so difficult for me and I can’t stand zippers. Cindi

JaimeS · March 26, 2008 at 9:46 am

I usually shop at Zellers as its what we have here. I also am cursed with HUGE boobs and I find that the Cherokee tops work good. I also don’t dress up though… usually just t’s and pants.

Oh how I can relate to this shopping woe….UGH….Shopping for the kids is so simple, and then when it comes time to shop for me (which is long overdue, might I add) it’s a complete and total nightmare that is sure to end in a nuclear meltdown EVERYTIME!!!!

Old Navy and Target are my current favorites. Shopping is no fun isnt it? It seems to take hours to find something- UGH!

Michelle · March 26, 2008 at 8:57 pm

I am cheap – I love the salvation Army or any other thrift store. We have some good ones in town!

katie bowen · March 27, 2008 at 10:37 am

shopping has been a depressing, bitchyness provoking ordeal for the past several years…i buy all my tops (4 or 5 a season) super cheap. we have an outlet and target near by…so i try to get them for 10 bucks or less. PANTS…that is my downer. the love handles are so large they could be flotation devices. i must say it is kinda hard to find “mom” clothes that are hip, casual, not slutty, and comfy. i like Title Nine and Athleta…Patagonia sometimes has good websales.

Carey · March 27, 2008 at 2:13 pm

I dont like clothes shopping, I always leave feeling depressed and never buy anything. Thats why i live in knit pants. Good luck.

ok to funny, we need to combine our bodies. I can never find pants, short legs. Shirts i have a plenty of.

Susy-Q · March 29, 2008 at 4:17 pm

I had the most HUMONGOUS boobs in high school. I quite track and field, stopped trying to convince people I wasn’t bra-stuffing and definitely NEVER bought new tops. I wore the same worn out bathing suit for two summers in a row. I was petite (past tense) and the breasts made me look like a stripper.

My peak summer, my aunt and mom (both seamstresses) made me a dress for my cousins wedding since I could not find anything that fit well. It was an empire dress (the type with a seam under the chest). When came time for my first fitting, they helped me put the dress over my head and squeeze my boobs in dress. It looked fabulous. When came time to take it off…it wouldn’t. My boobs were stuck in the dress! They were laughing so hard my aunt nearly peed herself. They ended up having to CUT the dress off my body. I ended up going to the wedding with a horse-blanket of a dress on.

Two weeks later, I made an appointment to see a plastic surgeon to get a breast reduction. It’s the best thing I have ever done for myself. Now I can buy just about any top. It’s my belly that needs some fixing now ;)
