I Need Your Help (& mini-Contest)

Published by on

Sam’s rooms is getting a make-over –> as I type Mr. MK is painting the trim. He has spent most of his free time this week laying new flooring, painting and of course all the sanding, nailing and sawing that go with it.

While his room won’t really have a theme Sam would like it to reflect his *love* of skiing. Mr. MK has some antique downhill ski’s he is going to hang on the walls and I promised to print, frame and hang some photos of Sam skiing.

I don’t think I have ever had any of my photo’s printed … weird, eh? I am quite content to look at them on my monitor. But seeing as I take so many I might as well start showing them off (besides on the blog).

I really love this shot of Sam on the lift (we’re all on the lift). I fiddled around in photoshop and came up with two versions that I like.

Photo 1 (Sharp):

Chairlift 1

Photo 2 (Blur):

Chairlift 2

Which do you like best?

All commenters will be entered to win a pair of Bical Grippers. I will randomly draw a winner on Monday, March 17th, 2008.

I like photo 2 – I love the shots where one thing stands out!

Michelle · March 14, 2008 at 11:58 pm

Oy, I’m not sure. I look at both and see different things… but if I *had* to pick, I guess I’d go with the sharp. Because I really like the trees and the way the snow looks with the brightness of Sam’s eyes.

I like the sharp. For some reason, with the blur, Sam seems overexposed. He doesn’t look like he enjoys having his picture taken. He might prefer one of him actually skiing, not just on the lift.

I like 1 better. The snow doesn’t seem as bright and overwhelming… Some how it seems like you seem Sam better in photo 1. JMO – both are great!

Heather · March 15, 2008 at 5:06 am

I like the sharp because I like nice crisp photos. The second one it seems as though your eye is drawn to the snow instead of Sam.

Jenn B · March 15, 2008 at 5:36 am

not to get too artsy on you (i’m not normally…), but: If it’s for you, then #1 i think it highlights Sam best (& the trees look cool), however, if it’s for his room, I kinda prefer #2 as it sort of has this artsy ‘relationship’ or something between him & the snow, you’re eye is drawn to the snow & blur first & then you (i) land last on his more crisp eyes…makes his expression take on more of a “bring it on” look.

I like the blur one.

Sharp…I would fear the extra light on the blurry one would bleach out when printed.

I like sharp.

The sharp one looks better in MHO. I’m in the midst of trying to decide which of the gazillion pictures I have of my kids to print off and hang in our living room. I have the lucky advantage of having a wonderful Dad who spurs my interest in photography by buying me an Epson Pro 3800 printer so I can print whatever I want whenever I want – on canvas even! I still haven’t tried the canvas yet. I’m a little scared to.

Hmm, I like the fuzzy one. Seems more “extreme” or cooler I guess.

Safire · March 15, 2008 at 11:48 am

I like the Sharp one.

Can you combine the two? the sharp on Sam is great and the blur on the trees is cool cause it seems like the shot was snapped in motion – although with the way the trees blurred, maybe it was backwards motion, but anyways – if you can put him sharp in the background blurred that would be awesome.

Jamie · March 15, 2008 at 12:49 pm

I like the sharp. It’s purrrdy.

I like the blurred the best. It looks more artistic. Although I do like jw4mkc’s suggestion of somehow combining the two.

I like number 1 more I think :)

Naomi · March 15, 2008 at 3:15 pm

I like the sharp. The blur reminds me of ’70s photos with soft focus.

I love photo 1. I think when you print it Sam will love it.

Susy-Q · March 15, 2008 at 4:40 pm

They are both great versions of a great picture. I like the way Sam looks on the second one, but I like the trees better in the first. If I had to pick one for a print, I would go with two. You might just want to go ahead and print both because sometimes once the pictures are printed, they just don’t look the same.

Hello, I think I would choose photo #2. The not as sharp photo seems to fit in with the wintry background. Thanks,Cindi

Kim · March 15, 2008 at 7:20 pm

I like photo #2!

Lucy · March 15, 2008 at 7:31 pm

I like #2 for a piece of artwork. If it was just a snapshot on the wall then I would go with #1.

Julie · March 15, 2008 at 7:45 pm

Great picture! I love photo #2!

Ashley S · March 15, 2008 at 8:33 pm

I love, love the second one – it’s dramatic! Before you print and frame them I suggest printing 2 smaller ones 4×6’s or so just to check how they look off screen. I’ve had a few surprises when I printed my digital pictures and spent far too much money on large shots that were no good. But the second one is fabulous, well done!

I agree, he looks too washed out in the “blur”, but if you could get the colour back in his face on that one it would be great! (Like you have nothing better to do hey?).

katie bowen · March 16, 2008 at 8:06 am

i like the blur! cool shot!

The blur- it gives it more of an action feel which IM guessing you may want in a high energy ski theme room=)

Michelle · March 17, 2008 at 7:07 am

I like the second shot

Andrea · March 17, 2008 at 10:40 am

You take great photo’s… so crisp!

Deb · March 17, 2008 at 2:35 pm

Great shot! I really like the second one.

Barbara A Baker · April 7, 2008 at 7:52 am

Photo 1 is the best…It shows more of a defined look and shows off the details in the photo. Great shot, I wish I could take photos like that!!!!
