When Dad’s in Charge … TIMBER!

Published by on

Under my supervision backyard activities include: swinging, sliding, a little tree climbing, trampoline jumping, the odd home-made zip line (that never work) and impromptu boxing matches (Lizzy please quit hitting your brother).

When Mr. MK is in charge, however, it really gets …

sam { timber }
all lumberjack like, and destructive.

sam { timber }
Don’t be concerned, he comes from a long line of lumberjacks. REALLY!

sam { timber }
According to Mr. MK, that dead tree needed to come down, NOW! Sam was just the man to do it.

sam { timber }
It’s all in the swing …

sam { timber }
and the placement of the tongue. That’s in his genes too.

hospital flowers
These are the pretty flowers beside his hospital bed.

JUST KIDDING … these are the pretty mum’s on the dining room table. The part of the house where I’m in charge and everything is perfect, ’cause I can blow sunshine out my ass. Can’t you just see the sunshine in this photo?

Sam’s fine … the tree isn’t!

sam { timber }
His first fall … “TIMBER” … with a little help from Dad and a hoe (a garden hoe that is!).

MK xo

I saw these on your flicks page and nearly had a heart attack thinking you or someone in you family WAS in the hospital. They are beautiful. xoxo

    @jamie

    HA! Sam actually told me, “it was hard, next time I should use a chainsaw”.

    YAH RIGHT!

I (guess since there are photos) you were watching. I don’t think I’d have been able to watch.

    @Colleen

    I got out there to see the last few swings of the axe. Mr. MK is smart enough not to pre-warn me.

    There was a lot of wincing.

Hannah · April 18, 2009 at 6:59 pm

Phew!! I got worried when I read “hospital bed” … I’m glad you were just joking!

Jenn B · April 18, 2009 at 8:27 pm

lol on the “smart enough not to pre-warn me”. this was awesome! go sam. :)

lovely pictures but I think cutting a tree is something that kids should not be taught we have responsibilities towards saving the environment. Lets all unite to do our bit.

kimmi · April 19, 2009 at 8:04 am

Lol! No. 5 is priceless and should be entered into Parenting magazine!

Hey – you can blow sunshine out of your ass too???? Gosh – we have so mcu in common ;)

So glad you are the kind of Mom who allows your boy to cut down a tree with an axe. He did great! And the photos are perfect.

By the way – Dad is doing great. Long recovery — but he is at home and is improving daily. Thanks for asking.

Love,
Jodi

It looks like a lovely day! Dead trees are great for animals in the outdoors! LOL I certainly get a kick out of you. Thanks! Cindi

How in the world did you stand there and take photos?! LOL! I would have been weak in the knees watching that!

And if I may comment to brandambassador – the post says the tree was dead… No harm no foul.

1. I like that proper lumberjack footwear includes wellies!
2. LOL at the flowers. LOL LOL LOL
3. It’s not nice to call the person who helped a “ho”. Just sayin’

Just the opposite at my house.

We called a tree removal service because we had a really large tree that we were afraid would fall on the house in a big wind storm.

I had to go to work and when I got home my wife had the guy remove every tree in the backyard.

So now we have lots more yard to mow. And as my wife likes to remind me, I need the exercise :)

Sarah @ BecomingSarah.com · April 21, 2009 at 11:55 am

I agree. Tongue placement is KEY.

great family activities there.. but you should be careful in letting the child handle an axe or someone might become like the tree.. poor tree.. haha.. i like the words “Sam’s fine … the tree isn’t!:.. very funny.. haha.. great post btw..

p/s: dont let your kids use the chainsaw or i think the tree wont be the only thing get hurt.. lol

Makes me so envious. The thing I miss most about having a yard and living in a house (in an apt now) is the yard work! Don’t think I ever got to take an entire tree down though. Most of the time it was just pruning and weeding =)

Good move with that flowers. I’m not really concerned about my Annie (she’s only two) but I wouldn’t let her chop that easily. I remember my brother with his head cut a little with an axe – I won’t let my Annie be hurt.

What a cute lumberjack you have there. I love the action shots.

Have a good weekend.
