Me: Georgia! Your new bunny is finished. YAAAYYY ….

bunny needs a home
Georgia: I. Don’t. Like. Rabbits! I only like small dogs.

I don't like rabbits ...

This is true … and I know this (I happen to prefer bunnies) so … if you happen to like my bunny, leave a comment. I’ll randomly pick a winner soon and ship this poor little unwanted bunny to YOU!

Bunny is about 18″ long and a mixture of 100% wool / cashmere / lambs wool sweaters that I felted and chopped up. She is stuffed with some kind of Eco-filling (could find wool). She’s a bit odd in the dimensions department –> I didn’t have a pattern and just made her up.

I actually bought a sewing machine. The thought of sewing up the bunny by hand, was just too much for me. A little bit of felt food is one thing, but the whole bunny … YUCK! It was my first time EVER using a sewing machine, just getting it threaded was a challenge … then sewing through the 1/8″ felt was something else. Regardless, she is done! I ripped out all the stitches on the arms and legs and re-sewed them with the machine. The head is all hand-sewn (MESSY); I didn’t think I’d make the turns on the ears using the machine. Remember your first driving lesson? Well I kind of sew a lot like that … lots of jerking, stalling and swerving.

It reminds me of an old fashioned doll. Would go perfect in a country home or for some child to love.

A good home awaits….and a little one who has lots of extra hugs to give!

cute little bunny :)

Nikkapotamus · October 31, 2008 at 6:14 am

oh! I love the bunny!
But isn’t that always the way? the parents love it, and the kids would rather play with a box.

I love the funny and it would love my home. Although it would be named Deedee just like all the other dolls that Alexandra has.

I am glad to hear you got a sewing machine. I bet you will think of all kinds of new projects now that you don’t have to handstitch as much. A Santa for the holidays or maybe a little Rudolph (I guess that’s not a small dog, is it?)?

In any case, if I am the grateful recipient of your adorable funky rabbit, I can assure you my son will give it lots of love!

What about swearing? There’s definitely swearing when I sew!

Gill · October 31, 2008 at 3:04 pm

this reminds me so much of the two bunnies my nana knit my children when they were babies, they were the weirdest looking bunnies we had ever seen, they were so loved though.

I have no idea where they are now though, which is a shame. (kids are now 23 & 24 now)

Happy Halloween! Your bunny reminds me of the “Velveteen Rabbit”, only your version. He is wonderful. You talk about your hand sewing being messy and I can’t even sew a button on! Handmade folk art ( yes, I am calling your bunny folkart ) is a favorite of mine. The more primitive, the better. I would be honored to win your bunny. What is Georgia’s loss, would be my gain. Please enter me in the drawing for your adorable bunny. Many thanks and take care!

Very cute! Sewing felt would be tricky, might want to practice with some nice easy cotton before tackling that again!

Michelle · October 31, 2008 at 11:49 pm

Oh, my. Georgia just never cuts you any slack, does she? For what it’s worth, my daughters both love little Bunnybun, especially his sweet face!

The bunny is too cute! It turned out really well for a first attempt, in my opinion. And with no pattern either. Great job!

Your bunny is adorable. Don’t worry sewing gets easier the more you do it. Congratulations on the new sewing machine! -Lisa

umm threading the sewing machine needle just drives me crazy…especially on my circa 1960 sewing machine from my grandma…after you inspired me to make felt food i got so fed up with the machine i haven’t revisted it…you might have just guilted me into it again. ;)

We’re looking for a new bunny, I know it’s not the same as the one we’re really looking for but maybe this one will do the trick. See my search for a replacement bunny: http://alatteinthemorning.blogspot.com/2008/10/help-needed.html
This bunny looks fantastic and would get a very loving home here.
I can’t believe this is only your first attempt! Very nice job!

I think it looks great! Homemade stuffed animals are a great way to go, because they have so much love built into them.
