Still Walking … Well it’s Forty Below …

Still Walking ...

Cue –> Rodeo Song – Well it’s forty below and I don’t give a f*(# … got a heater in my truck … OOPS! Sorry … I’m not much of a singer!

For those of you who’ve never heard this song (it’s a western Canadian Classic – we’re so cultured):

WARNING: Strong Language those of you with delicate sensibilities should pass!

The song really doesn’t belong here; it just popped into my head when I saw the picture of the kids walking to school. It wasn’t really 40 below today, but holy-moly it sure felt like it!

The point is we’re walking and it’s cold. If you’re wondering why I drag my kids out in sub-zero temps you can read my old post – I challenge you to walk! Nothing has changed…

GET ON MY NERVES!

I am going to quit singing and cussing and finish organizing the contest enteries — Winners Announced Tomorrow!

I’ll see you winners and loosers tomorrow!

Me too! Haven’t heard that in awhile but it’s quite a catchy tune, eh!

Auntie Gayle · January 16, 2008 at 8:41 pm

PS: You’re hilarious! Reading that made me laugh outloud. :)

Not related…everytime I stop on your site I notice your upper left rotating pics. Your kids have the craziest eyes I have EVER seen (in a good way). Beautiful!

Ugh, I remember those temps…I’m a Canuck too. I remember my eyelashes freezing shut on my morning walks to school in sub zero (that’s zero with a zed, and celcius in temps). I would get to school and crack the ends of my frozen curls till i saw ice bits crumble out of my hair. Now I barely see rain and miss it. Thanks for the bit of nostalgia.

I too remember that song….funny, and it certainly sticks in your head for days….

You made a lot of work for yourself and this contest didn’t you – going back through all those posts??? Good luck – don’t stay up too late :)

I don’t miss the -40 alberta weather! I try to walk as much as possible.Unfortunately where my daycare is located makes it impossible for me to walk to walk which is what I really want to do. My kids walk lots and people are amazed that my 5 year old has been on 8+km hikes with no problem.

Angella · January 16, 2008 at 11:42 pm

BRRRRR!!!

It’s cold here, but not 40 below!

So I read your challenge to walk post! Good for you guys! We do the same thing! We have been walking to and from almost all of the 3 days a week she goes. Today it was 30 degrees out as we ventured to school all bundled up. I actually enjoy it for the same reasons you do! Its just under 2 miles round trip.(and we do that twice!) I get my exercise in for the day (and pushing a double stroller part of the way with all THREE in it works my arms..haha) The kids get fresh (sometimes freezing air..haha) Haley likes to ride her scooter. And most of all we get to talk! They are chatterboxes! We talk about all the things we see, we sing, and on the way home Haley tells me about school, (or I have to pry it out of her, what is it with kindergarters and saying “i dunno..” haha. Had to do SOMETHING all day! haha its been nice- though I cant wait for the warmer weather..haha

haaaaaahaha is there a Canadian around who doesn’t know that song? Many a time I’ve crooned that one out, lemme tell ya! I have never heard your voice but I swear when I saw ‘GET ON MY NERVES’ I burst out laughing and could almost hear you singing it.

Breigh · January 17, 2008 at 2:18 am

Woah, that commentluv thing just gave me some SERIOUS errors, like a whole page of them. I clicked back so I could get my comment through.

Jamie · January 17, 2008 at 6:42 am

Well. you have to make them walk, otherwise how would they be able to tell the “when I was your age, I had to walk fourty miles uphill both ways” story to their kids??

I have never heard that song before but it is funny. We lived in Montana for a while and it got to -32 and that was too cold for me. I live in N.C. now and I do not miss at all. Try to stay warm.

How sweet…they bond/hug when it’s 40 below…or it was momentary and now they’re just frozen together… :)

Lee · January 17, 2008 at 9:40 am

Why, when I was a kid we walked five miles through waist deep snow, uphill both ways to school. :D Thanks for the journey down memory lane.

Like Jennifer, I live in NC and do not miss winters like we had in Illinois. And those were mild compared to what you have in areas of Canada.

katie bowen · January 17, 2008 at 9:56 am

it is (the F-word) cold way down south here in VT…so i an only imagine how cold it is up there…even closer to the north pole…looking forward to the days when the little one can put on his own snowpants…nothing like an overheated, pregnant mom trying to pull on mittens and boots!!!!

Jaime Stephens · January 17, 2008 at 10:26 am

Its hovering around 1 degree this morning… but before everyone starts cursing me its a damp cold ;) We’ve already been out and walked to school. Now we’re home warming up.

Jaffer · January 17, 2008 at 10:47 am

ha ha ! That song gets into my head every time I hear it.

My last post was about the weather as well…

Amanda · January 17, 2008 at 11:26 am

Hmmm – never heard the song but I think I should start spreading it around here as well. I am in Michigan and it is stinkin’ cold!!!

Naomi · January 17, 2008 at 11:49 am

Makes me feel better that I’m not the only mommy with a pottymouth. Or pottyear?

I might like country music more if they swore. The only time I was in Calgary, I went to a cowboy bar and it was fun, as I recall…

Happy Geek · January 17, 2008 at 1:12 pm

I haven’t heard that one in a while, but terribly appropriate today I might add! Cute pic of your babes!

Lisa · January 17, 2008 at 2:24 pm

Walking is great. When I was a kid we walked every where. We live in the country it is 16 miles to a store so we do not walk much to get anywhere. However walking just to walk is fun and tires everyone out. We need to get outside more in the winter.

leslie · January 17, 2008 at 3:29 pm

..good grief, i remember ALL the lyrics….

Char Jackson · January 17, 2008 at 4:40 pm

I got out for a walk today and it was wonderful!! We had sun!! Love your picture, well taken!

Also, I got my new diaper bag yesterday! (Quick delivery time all the way to Canada!), and I LOVE IT!!!! Thank you soooooo much!! What a wonderful blessing. I had it unwrapped for about two minutes before it was full and ready to use! THANK YOU!! And God bless!!

Cindi Hoppes · January 17, 2008 at 6:02 pm

I am a Yankee, so I don’t know the song. It is going to be very cold here in Illinois this coming weekend, but not 40* below zero. I will send warm thoughts your way. Cindi

jw4mkc · January 17, 2008 at 7:55 pm

OH..Mean ole mom!!! They look so sad!! Mine would be thrilled since we rarely get snow.

I feel you on the walking…and I love the way you express yourself… if our journey is less than a mile…NO MATTER WHAT THE WEATHER… my children and I WALK… even to do the grocery shopping…

the best exercise ever. I walk miles everyday. It keeps me fit at this age too.

I have even tried waking up to my friend’s house and give him a surprise. and it sort of worked, but i was very tired after that walk.

horsegames · August 29, 2010 at 11:50 pm

even the doctors suggest walking, it is the best and the most simplest form of exercise.

Lisa · March 26, 2011 at 8:14 pm

Haha I do remember that song ! It’s indeed Canadian !
