She’ll Grow Out of it … I Hope (or Not)!

Published by on

I’ve mentioned Canmore before. We love it. The scenery. We love it.

Everyday we walk downtown, along the wooden boardwalk, along a sleepy creek. Did I mention that we love it?

I can’t help, but stop to photograph flowers in the meadow.

flowers in a meadow

It’s bright and sunny.

The kids interrupt, “can we play in the creek”.

“Sure, but don’t get your clothes wet”, I say.

thistle and bug

The thistles are up to my thighs. They are bright and huge and I forget they’re weeds.

even the bees are still

Even the bees are still.

I forget I have kids (it is glorious), until I hear a wild banshee Georgia shrieking.

keeping her clothes dry

She’s made sure not to get her clothes wet.

keeping my clothes dry

She’s is almost naked, almost being the operative word.

“Come and get dressed”, I suggest.

a glorius day

Not likely!

it's hot

Ah, who am I kidding? I could care less; it’s hot, she’s happy, it’s a glorious day.

come and get me

“Come and get me mummy”, she hollers.

throwing rocks

We spent awhile playing by the creek.

A couple walked by on the bridge. ” Are those your kids?” the woman asked.

“Yes” I said, cautiously.

“They’re cute!”, she says.

“I know” “Thanks,” I said.

For all you trolls, who disapprove of my creek swimming, topless preschooler.

peace

Peace!

AND –> YES Dad, I’ll be getting his hair cut before school starts!

I love this age… when they are sweet and innocent and just happy to play. I have two little nudists myself. :)

I’m getting flak for not cutting the baby’s hair yet too. I figure I’ll get sick of it eventually but for now… I’m in love with them. :)

Love your photos. I need to learn to take better photos.

    MommyKnows · August 17, 2009 at 3:08 pm

@onescrappygal –> I love this age too. It’s going by so damn fast. The next toddler in this house will probably be my grandchildren. How sad it that?! AHHHHHHH!

Hannah · August 16, 2009 at 6:15 pm

Hehe, I love that age too. My boys are both now “shy” about getting changed in front of me! They already want privacy – and they’re only 7 and nearly 5! It’s cute when they are free & happy like Georgia :-)
I love Sam’s hair, too! I’m sure it would be in the way at school, but at least he’s been allowed to have it long and shaggy for summer. It looks really cool!

@hannah –> Sam is totally getting “shy” these days. Then again, it could be the wolf-whistles I give him whenever I catch him naked. HA! I like his hair too. It drives my parents crazy … it’s part of why we grow it. HAHA

Naomi · August 16, 2009 at 8:00 pm

They are adorable, as usual… and they look like they’re up to something, as usual, too…

(Roo has those panties! Wish I’d gotten them in the next size up, she’s gonna outgrow them soon.)

Those flowers in the meadows are really something, you have taken it beautifully, your environment seems to a great place your raise a child, you have good looking children.

rachel-asouthernfairytale · August 17, 2009 at 11:54 am

Those pictures are gorgeous and she is too adorable! My daughter loves to dance around in the water and out in her panties, too. :-)
Looking forward to meeting you, Wednesday.

@rachel –> thank you! I can’t wait for Wednesday. Should be fun.

Jodi Renshaw · August 17, 2009 at 12:05 pm

Hey Momma :)

I strip my 4-year old boy and let him swim Everywhere. Even park fountains. My husband is always worried about indecent exposure charges (his uncircumcised penis just dangles about as he romps in the water – for all to see) – but I could care less. Our society is so ridiculous about nudity. Nudity does not equal sex, people! Anyway, we were at the coast earlier today, and I let him strip down and jump into the ocean … while my young friend Meg stripped down to her undies & bra (12 years old) and jumped in as well … then I jumped in fully clothed … and we all swam about among the lobster boats. Good times. So – gor fot it my little Georgia friend. Naked swimming rocks!

Love,
Jodi

@jodi –> I hear you! I think the bikini top for toddler girls is ridiculous. I grew up in the middle east wear women are covered from head to toe, and EVEN they let wee girls go topless. Only in North America do we attempt to hide nothing, and then at age 12 or so let them bare it all.

Madeline · August 17, 2009 at 12:10 pm

We need to keep our children young and free as long as possible, they grow up too quick as it is. I love these shots of Georgia, I know first hand what a water babe she is and I can image her shrieks of joy as these photos were taken.

Sam’s hair is cool, if it gets in the way at school, he can always borrow a hairband from his sister! But, personally I think it suits his personality perfect and many kids would love to have hair like that.

HAVE A FAB TIME ON YOUR TRIP!!!

Hey Kim,
Remember you asked me all those questions on my blog? Well, I’ve been busy answering a few of them and I tackled 2 of yours. Check it out if you’re interested! Thanks for the inspiration for one of my favourite posts ever (the one about how I met my hubby).

It’s as life should be! In Europe, this is a natural things. We tend to get too uptight in the states over the stupidest things. Let your kids enjoy life without pumping them full of rules that don’t matter.

Shannon · August 24, 2009 at 5:01 pm

As always, your photography is fabulous and your kids are beautiful! I hope she doesn’t grow out of it… just moderates when it’s appropriate as she gets older! Ha ha! I love Canmore too! Are you Canadian?

    MommyKnows · August 24, 2009 at 8:48 pm

Thanks Shannon. I kind of hope she doesn’t grow out of it either!

Colleen · August 24, 2009 at 7:50 pm

I just stared at the first daisy shot for ages. It’s gorgeous. Just a flawless photo. It should be blown up to a huge enormous size and hung up. Love it.

I also love all the shots of Georgia enjoying the water. Totally what Zoe would do. She looks like she’s just having a blast.

    MommyKnows · August 24, 2009 at 8:47 pm

Thanks Colleen. Whenever, I read your posts I think that Georgia and Zoe would make great pals. They are both so animated and so close to the same age.

I am not a mommy, so when this blog was sent to me via twitter (many know I have a blogging strategy there) i thought: “Oh jeez, parenting blogs, not my thang!”

I am an Auntie though (actually I am THE auntie – there is no other on my family giggle) and I love children. This is a beautiful delightful post about the beauty of children!

When you publish a book of free-form poetry, this entry should be one of the first pages.

Also, the first pic (daisy?) and the Georgia up-close face shots need to be made into blank cards. I’m just saying.

    MommyKnows · September 10, 2009 at 2:36 pm

@Antof9 – me? a book? poetry? Who would read it!? The cards just might happen though.
