Sam the Man – Part 2 (I was Paralyzed!!)

Published by on

If it wasn’t obvious from my last post … I am kind of partial to Sam’s longer hair. I took all of your advice though, and let him make his own choice. Check out his choice below.

We were a day late going to the barber … yesterday afternoon I was temporarily paralyzed and lost feeling and the ability to move in both my arms and chest area. VERY SCARY! I’ve had this really weird tingling in my arms (and legs) for quite awhile. I spent last evening in emergency and today getting tests. I hope to have an MRI in the next couple of days. The consensus of the doctors that I have seen is that I have a space-occupying lesion near the C8 vertebrae (even after research … I can’t quite pinpoint what that is … I think it could be many things), but of course there are no answers until the MRI is done. *sigh*

Sam's Hair - Before
Sam before cut.

Sam's Hair Cut - During
It took quite awhile to get rid of all that hair. It was hard to watch …

Sam's Hair - After
Still cute :) and feisty!

Wow! That looks so different, it’s like he has a different hair colour. Good for you letting him make his own decision though. I’m sorry to hear you got so “sick”. Although it seems you can’t call it sick, but maybe “insanity”. Jeeeeez. BTW-your C8 is the bottom of your cervical spine which consists of the vertebrae that compose your neck and extend into your back. Request a referral to an orthopedic surgeon for a consult. Since I know where you live ;) specify not Lavoie. I KNEW my work would come in handy some day:) Good luck!

I have had something very similar, but not quite as severe. Still have some remnants of the numbness…talk to me about it. Sam looks great.

Elizabeth · April 9, 2008 at 9:39 pm

Wishing you well. So scary to have no explanation for what you are feeling. I hope that you get an MRI soon to lay your fears to rest. Sam looks great. I had a hard time seeing Hunter’s locks go, but now I can’t quite remember what they looked like, without pictures. Scary how fast I forgot!

Tara R · April 9, 2008 at 9:41 pm

Sam’s haircut is cute.

And how absolutely terrifying for you! I sure hope you are ok!

Wow, Sam looks so different, but really really cute!
I hope you are okay, it sounds pretty scary but I’m sure the doctors will no more after the MRI. Take care, okay? ((hugs))

Praying you feel better soon. Good for you letting him decide. He looks older. It is so hard when our kids have their own ideas that are different then ours.

bree · April 9, 2008 at 11:26 pm

How scary! I will be praying for you!!! keep us updated!

I can’t believe Sam chose to cut his hair so short! I can’t wait to see more pictures!

Priya · April 9, 2008 at 11:46 pm

Will pray for your quick recovery and good health. Keep ur spirits high.

Carey · April 10, 2008 at 4:01 am

I hope you are feeling better today. That must have been very scary. Praying for good results with the MRI.
Wow..your son looks so different. He looks very cute! When my son was 2 he had longer hair, and I never wanted to cut. Finally last summer, after lots of sweating, I finally cut it….shaved it all off…and he loved it. It was hard to let it go, but i love it now. Now he wants it long again..he always says”like the picture”…but i dont like the in between wait…takes to long…so i cut it all off again the other week.

Safire · April 10, 2008 at 4:45 am

Love the new look for Sam! He looks so much older! And I’m sorry about your back! I hope that you’ll be able to know more after the MRI! My thoughts will be with you!

Goodness! Good luck with the MRI. I like Sam’s cut. I can’t believe how similar their profiles are in this picture.

divrchk · April 10, 2008 at 4:59 am

Wow! Feel better! Sam looks great. What a drastic change. How does he feel about it?

Naomi · April 10, 2008 at 5:35 am

oh, geez, I thought you were joking about wanting to keep Sam’s golidlocks intact… I hope you get some answers about your MRI soon.

Sam looks so handsome, by the way!

The haircut looks good. Do you look at him and think who is this kid? It always takes me some getting used to when my son gets his hair cut, because we usually wait until it is really shaggy to finally get it cut and it is a big difference.

Andrea · April 10, 2008 at 7:23 am

Scary, scary. I hope all your tests come back okay. I’m glad you let him decide on the hair cut. What a difference.. he looks cute with the new doo but he looked cute before too.

Did you save any of his gorgeous locks?

What a change! I was thinking he would keep it the same and then I saw the last picture. Great cut.

Good luck on your tests. I hope everything turns out fine.

He is a lucky boy. He is so cute that he looks great either way. I will be sending positive thoughts your way and prayers. Is it possible that at one time you hurt something skiing? Just a thought. Take care, Cindi

Mandy · April 10, 2008 at 11:47 am

Today is my first day to stop by here. So glad I did – but so scary about your paralysis. I do hope the tests are all good. I also love your son’s hair long – but the short hair is adorable too!
Glad I came across your blog. I will be back!

Kim · April 10, 2008 at 12:43 pm

I would’ve been sad during the haircut, too. But, it turned out great. I will be praying for you and your results!

I would love to see a front shot of Sam’s hair too – what a difference, he’ll love not even having to comb it now hey!

Hope you are o.k too! Best wishes for a speedy MRI and good results!

JaimeS · April 10, 2008 at 1:47 pm

My husband went through a similar thing 3 years ago. He was diagnosed with Guillain Barre Syndrome and spend months getting better. Our neighbour is still recovering from something similar as well. Very scary! Take care of yourself and keep us posted!

PS… Sam’s hair looks awesome!

First of all, I hope you are feeling better now and everything goes alright with the MRI. Things like this can be scary but I am sure you will be fine. We are all crossing our fingers and praying for you. Second of all, the new hair cut seems to look good even with all that hair gone.

Michelle · April 10, 2008 at 10:23 pm

Yikes that sounds scary. Hope it turns out to be nothing and that you get all the tests quickly. Waiting is such agony with our healthcare system!

JaimeS · April 12, 2008 at 12:16 pm

How’re things going? I hope that you haven’t had any more episodes and that things are looking up health wise. I noticed that you closed your shop for Family Issues. Please keep us updated as we’re all worried about you!

Oh my, I also got long hair and I wish to get a haircut…I just never find the time to do it.
Also, I see my story was repeated exactly as with your son..and maybe many other boys in the world. I had long hair(when I was about the age of your son), but after I scared my mom with some “girl talks”, she took me right away to barbershop :)
