Sam Takes Over the Laundry …

Published by on

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while or you know me IRL, you’ll know that I have laundry issues.

I just don’t get it done often enough. It’s way down in my dungeon of a basement. My basement is a disaster of epic proportions. I don’t even like to think about it. I avoid it.

All that said, the laundry often piles up. Huge piles that could swallow small children (but never do). My mother insists that if we didn’t have so many clothes, we wouldn’t have so much laundry. Thanks mom! This from a woman who has 10x as many clothes as I do!

Errr!

Anyway kid 3 AKA Sam, finds it easier to put his clean folded laundry, back into the HUGE laundry piles rather than put them back in his dresser drawers. {Yes Mom, I do remember that I used to do this very thing!}

So … he’s doing the laundry for a while. Let me say in my defense, that this is not his first or even fifth offense. He’s also no stranger to doing laundry. He has been an expert load changer for quite some time (takes the clothes from the washer and puts them in the dryer).

How’s it working for us? –>I am the supervisor, he is the labour. It rocks! Don’t tell him, but I am sort of hoping he throws his clean, folded, clothes in the laundry pile again next week.

This sounds so familiar. I have made my kids do their own laundry as soon as they could reach the washer. I have a hard enough time keeping up with MY laundry, let alone theirs!

Although, I’m kind of a tough mom in general. I once made my teen sleep on the couch for a week because I was so sick of his messy room! I even sealed it up with crime scene tape. Not that it helped for long….

@Adrian –> too stinkin’ funny. I’ll have to keep that one in my arsenal of ‘ways to torture the kids’.

Haha Kim I was happy you remembered & admitted you put your clean folded laundry back in the laundry. What you did forget to mention, is that you were somewhat older than Sam!!! I don’t know why I never thought to make you do it! I know I threw fits!!! Your way makes more sense!! Haha.

I started having my children help me with chores around the house when they were young. Of course they didn’t have a great deal of responsibility at the time but they had fun cleaning with me. For the most part they were responsible for their own toys and space. Slowly I added more and more tasks and choirs to their lists as they got older. Train them early on is a key. Make them think cleaning up is part of a routine like eating lunch or dinner.
