When I am not taking the baby fashion world by storm, I am busy with my cattle business! HAHAHA

Not really but, I do have about 8 head of registered polled hereford cattle. Of course they can’t possibly live in my suburban back yard, so they are being fostered by my dad (THANK GOD).

Now don’t get all excited … I am not going to turn into the next Pioneer Woman! No great pictures of daily ranch life, no educational info on cattle, and absolutely NO recipes coming anytime soon. Unless you want to know how to plonk a box of cereal on the table @ 6 p.m. and make everyone feel grateful they are being fed at all? Hmmm, that probably is a skill worth passing along, eh? It’s all in the body language ladies …

Back to the cattle ~ Sunday I had a heifer in the annual ‘Fall Round-up Sale’ and curious to how much $ I was going to rake in; I loaded up Georgia (the other kids were already there with my parents) and headed out to the Lakeford Ranch.

It was a gorgeous fall day and the two hour drive went quickly. I turned off my urban driving tunes (mostly Eminem) in favour of some country tunes (Shania Twain and Alan Jackson) and by the time we arrived at the auction I was “gone country”. Unfortunately, I was too stinkin’ late … the sale started @ 2 and not 3 and my poor heifer was sold before we ever got to meet.

All was not lost. There was a great BBQ lunch and the kids had a hoot!

Yee Haw
Georgia had fun on this pony, even though she insisted ALL the way there that she ONLY likes cows and tractors, NOT horses.

Just Hangin' Around
Sam spent some time hangin’ out in the corals.

Sam the Pest
Most of the time he was aggrevating one of his sisters!

Switching topics –> Hayley has been loving Brazil until just lately. She is starting to feel a little bit homesick. Go on over and leave her a comment … please …

Rocktober Baby! (Marketplace) is going to be a fun month! I am continuing the give-aways with yet another twist –> this month instead of a prize-per-day, there will be a prize-per-post. Some days all you’ll have to do is comment, other days you’ll have to jump through hoops!
What did you do last weekend?

EVERY post in October Rocktober I’m giving away a free prize (maybe more, but at least one). Just like in the past the winners will be randomly drawn and posted here on the site.

The winner(s) will be able to choose one of any of the prizes listed on the flickr set: Rocktober Baby! (Marketplace). Once an item is chosen, it will be removed from flickr and will no longer be available (unless I have two … which I do for some).

All prizes are provided by: www.thebabymarketplace.com in conjuction with www.mommyknows.com

Last weekend I went to the Eco Fair in Calgary – there was good information on how to make your home more enviromentally friendly. Cleaning supplies, wind turbines, sky lights. I learned a lot about plastics in baby toys, etc. Scarry stuff!

Tasha · October 16, 2007 at 10:18 pm

Forgot….love the picture of Georgia on the pony!

glittersmama · October 16, 2007 at 10:57 pm

I threw a birthday party for my baby’s first birthday!

Jenny M · October 16, 2007 at 11:05 pm

My mother in law came for a visit. seriously- it was great. I got my calculus test done- so happy that class ends this week. We also went to the fire open house and the flight for life helicopter came- so cool and a woman pilot to boot.

Michelle · October 16, 2007 at 11:59 pm

Saturday we took my kiddos to a kids’ workshop at Lowe’s, they built these wooden fire trucks, and we had an absolute blast. Sunday was spent at the Rose Bowl Flea Market, 4 hours of eating junk food and searching for bargains. Fun times! Exhausting, but fun.

You seriously take some awesome photos. Love that last one, what a gleam in his eyes!

Diane · October 17, 2007 at 12:02 am

We went to the pumpkin patch and had a lot of fun… got some really cute pics and now I am learning to cook with pumpkin!

bree · October 17, 2007 at 1:14 am

Great pictures, it looks like a fun day!

Last weekend we had friends over for Thai and DVDs.

nikkapotamus · October 17, 2007 at 5:58 am

Last weekend, we went punkin’ huntin’. The 2 year old found her pumpkin in less than a minute and we spent the rest of the time checking out the haunted farm yard-complete with John Deere tractor and pumpkin hauling train.
We also ate pumpkin muffins-yum, and all manner of delicious home made goodies.

Kait · October 17, 2007 at 6:01 am

I was just wondering yesterday if she was still in Brazil. What an awesome oppurtunity. My son just rode a pony this past weekend at our town’s fall fest.

serina · October 17, 2007 at 6:53 am

I would love some cattle. *jealous* =)

Mimi · October 17, 2007 at 7:36 am

We went for a great fall walk at the Gatineau Park…followed by a light snack and fun in the leaves!!! What a great season!

Susy-Q · October 17, 2007 at 7:37 am

Last weekend we didn’t do much because the whole family was sick. I basically blew my nose, wiped my son’s nose, and passed the tissue box to my husband so he could do his own!

Deb · October 17, 2007 at 7:41 am

So fun! I used to raise my own beef cows when I was growing up in Ontario…i miss it!!

Deb on the Rocks · October 17, 2007 at 7:45 am

I helped my friend move her mom into an assisted living home. I’m getting too old to move mattresses! And then I babysat for my friends toddler. Too old for that, too! Stuck in the middle with me.

Carey · October 17, 2007 at 7:53 am

What did i do last weekend? My Grandmother came to visit. She didnt stay to long but it was great to see her again. We only see each other about twice a year. We had a great time.

Michelle · October 17, 2007 at 8:58 am

Last weekend…. was our annual ski swap for ski patrol. So my husband was away for most of the weekend working for them. The kids and I played outside (well they played and I tried to clean up the rest of the garden and yard). Then had friend’s over for supper on sunday night. Never did get the applesauce made like I had planned so I still have 2 huge boxes of apples sitting in the back of my van. They have only been there since Thanksgiving so hopefully I get the darn stuff made before christmas. I only seem to remember they are there when I go grocery shopping and try and stick stuff in the trunk!!

Teresa · October 17, 2007 at 9:48 am

Well, last weekend was a bit full. We had a first birthday party for my youngest daughter. This was nicely sandwiched between different family members enjoying a fun 24-48 hour bug of the flu that has been going around this area. So I am sure you understand that makes for a full weekend!

Pam · October 17, 2007 at 9:53 am

Last weekend, hmm, Saturday I spent a fair part of the day teaching my husband’s aunts what scrapbooking is and how to do it. Sounds great except I’ve ever only scrapbooked three pages in my life. I think we did well though, we have a 30-50 page album for my husbands Grandma to complete by Christmas so this is just the beginning.
Sunday I had to work. I tried to talk my co worker into a bunch of things including Scare Crow Festival at the agricom, or the corn maze or the pumpkin patch thing by some nearby small town but it was a no go so we ended up going to see Ratatouille instead. Oh and it sounds like I had to work to have fun, I actually had four kids with me at all times and had to cook three meals and clean up after them all day.

Montserrat · October 17, 2007 at 10:13 am

We spent the weekend trying to get the last of our hay up out of the fields before yet another rain and wind storm.

Angella · October 17, 2007 at 10:51 am

That first photo pf Georgia is so great! Um, when did she stop looking like a baby? Because she looks so grown up!

Corey · October 17, 2007 at 11:11 am

My parents raise polled herefords too.
I did NOTHING all weekend….and loved every minute of it!

Heather · October 17, 2007 at 11:26 am

I rearranged my flower garden; my son and I had a blast (he loves to eat dirt) while my husband read in the shade. :)

pinks & blues girls · October 17, 2007 at 12:43 pm

Wow, looks like tons of fun! Your kids are so blonde! I am envious!

Jane, Pinks & Blues

Naomi · October 17, 2007 at 12:45 pm

I love the Appaman jacket. Jasper got one as a gift and I washed it (like I do all my kids’ clothes before they wear them) in cold, according to the tag instructions, and when it came out- shredded jacket. I was so bummed out. Fabric defect maybe? I emailed Appaman’s website but haven’t gotten a response. I was wondering if you’ve washed yours???

Happy Geek · October 17, 2007 at 1:11 pm

Last weekend was loooong loooong loooong, Dh was gone and let’s see, there was the tantrum in Costco, the fit at the scarecrow festival, the 10 inch trail of poop on my berber carpet, the 19 month old who screamed every time he was put down ,the missing keys, etc. etc. Great weekend!

Jaime Stephens · October 17, 2007 at 1:28 pm

I did absolutely nothing other than shop and clean. Oi! I did pick up some new bras though so that was an awesome treat.

Deanne S. · October 17, 2007 at 1:46 pm

We went looking at trucks and went to Grandma’s house. Pretty tame weekend!

jw4mkc · October 17, 2007 at 1:57 pm

I will hop on over and leave our Brazilian Blonde Bombshell a quick hey.. I ALWAYS read about what she is up to, but don’t always post. Poor girl..She has done good to go this long without getting homesick already..

Alexia · October 17, 2007 at 2:15 pm

Like I can remember what I did last weekend! I think I stayed home…except for Sunday – I went to church and my newest was dedicated!

Debbie · October 17, 2007 at 2:35 pm

Well whilst you were having what looked like a fun day and weekend, we were on our acreage trying to set up a portable garage. Trying to get the stakes twisted into the ground was useless. I think we just live on stones under the topsoil, so we hired an auger and drilled and cemented them in. To makes matters worse on Thursday night, when that wind was about (I don’t live far from Sherwood Park) our 18ft trampoline went for a spin on its own. So we ended up having to put more of the pegs in to secure it. Guess what I am doing again this weekend?

Leslie · October 17, 2007 at 3:02 pm

Last weekend was a huge event for us as it was Jayden’s first birthday party, which also made it my first full weekend off work since returning in July. We had about 40 guests for the party and I was a tad of a basketcase! This was the first time I had held an event like this but everyone was very impressed at the result. Unfortunately Jayden was totally overwhelmed by the guests all singing and watching him when it was cake time and that was it for him so he napped while we ate cake and then cleaned up!

katie bowen · October 17, 2007 at 3:55 pm

hi- awesome and congrats on the new members of your family!! mooo!

we raise several hundred chickens here on our farm…(so that’s why it is always a zoo!)

the pictures are great!

Andrea · October 17, 2007 at 8:48 pm

Cute pictures…and yeah, arn’t brothers SUPPOSED to agravate their sisters? haha!

Kilikina · October 17, 2007 at 10:13 pm

Looks like you had fun.

My answer- Last weekend we took our 2 year old, and our 3 month old on their first camping trip, in a tent. AND my husband and I went rappelling down the mountain for the first time! I have pics of that on my blog!

Laura · October 17, 2007 at 11:05 pm

My weekend? Not super fun.

There was a friend of the family who passed whose funeral was on Saturday. We are quite close with a lot of his …ummm… descendants (he was 81), so it really affected a lot of people we knew! Then I felt all PMS-y (in a weepy way, not a bit**y way) and had to leave the luncheon they planned for after the funeral because I didn’t know how to explain to a room of 300-400 people who had just lost a family member why I had something to cry about. (I don’t.)

On Sunday, we were supposed to have friends over with their kids, who are roughly the same age as our kids, but they had to cancel. I ended up vegetating the entire day, but that is actually a good thing… it’s the only way I can face another Monday. :)

Mefeng · October 17, 2007 at 11:38 pm

Nice pictures. Love Georgia on the pony.
Last weekend we went to the Green day festival at City Hall. Having fun learning info about environmental friendly idea.

Yan · October 18, 2007 at 12:45 am

That look like sooo much fun !!

Dana · October 18, 2007 at 1:48 am

We bought a membership at our zoo!

Jamie · October 18, 2007 at 8:39 am

Man, we are dying to go back to the country. both of us were born and raised country, but we’ve been citified for about 6 years now.

sigh.

Last weekend we sat around the house feeling sorry for our sick selves. Sucks to be us, hunh?

lace · October 18, 2007 at 9:28 am

To bad you didn’t get to me your cow before it was sold.

I keep trying to take my niece out to a friends house that has cows. She loves cows and would love to see the calves that they have. Maybe before it gets butt cold here we will be able to do it.

Monica · October 18, 2007 at 9:49 am

My aunt came from Ohio, we live in Illinois, to meet her new great niece, our Sophia (3 months today). So the weekend was nice until they left, after that Sophia started to refuse to nurse from my left side. I’ve been trying to trick her on taking milk from that side but it hasn’t been easy. If anybody have any suggestion please let me know!!

Anu · October 18, 2007 at 11:45 am

Loved Georgia on the pony….she is too cute!!

Anu · October 18, 2007 at 11:48 am

Saturday went to the local Farmers market…..love the fruits there. The apples are delicious!
Sunday went out to luch. The weather was lovely out here.

Kellie · October 18, 2007 at 6:09 pm

I spent the weekend at the beach with my DH, sans kids. It was our little “babymoon” before number 3 arrives. :)

Lisa · October 18, 2007 at 9:56 pm

I spent the weekend holding and comforting my sick 23 month old:(

Annette · October 18, 2007 at 10:59 pm

Hockey, Hockey and more Hockey. Either watching my son play minor hockey or watching the local team.

The season has only just started but I can say that will be nearly every weekend until March!

Amanda · October 19, 2007 at 3:47 am

I spent the weekend cleaning in preparation for family coming this weekend! Fun, fun!! At least it will be nice since part of the family (they live several hours away) has yet to see our 4 month old.

Jill · October 19, 2007 at 6:40 am

My poor little one has had a stomach flu for the past week…She’s such a trouper though…when the doctors gave her a shot she politely responded “Thank You, feel better now?” Not bad for 20 months old!

Christina E · October 19, 2007 at 10:40 am

Last weekend we started planning for This weekend and our Halloween party!

mama k · October 19, 2007 at 1:18 pm

Why you’d like to win – I have won with you before and you give away the most fab prizes! It’s awesome that you let us choose too.

Answer the question I leave in the post – This past weekend I had my step-sisters wedding and then my dear friend’s baby’s Christening. Both were fun. I drank too much and ate too much rich food. I think I’m still recovering. LOL

Charlotte · October 22, 2007 at 11:22 am

Last weekend we went apple picking :)

Juliane · October 24, 2007 at 5:01 pm

My husband took me out for an early birthday gift- We saw Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor, center section, second row. AWESOME! My sis kept the kids so we went out and hit a bar, trying to relive our youth a bit! Sis reported my 2 month old drank my milk like he’d never eaten before…. no wonder he’s already in 6-9 month sized clothes!
