Photo Burn Out (mini-Contest continues)

Published by on

I spent the day photographing new products.

Petit Lem Bamboo Baby Clothes - Bamboo Newborn Gown

This Bamboo clothing from Petit Lem is so soft. I wish you could reach out and touch it, because if you could … you’d have to buy it! That my friends would be nice.

Then I spent even more time adding the products to the site, writing descriptions (silly fluffy stuff) and then cross-referencing products. I am still not finished. All the products need to be copied into other relevant categories. *sigh*

I am rather stressed about the photo’s. Normally, I remove the background, make it white, add a drop shadow. HOWEVER, it is just too much work. Do you think I can get away with them as they are?

To view the entire set click HERE.

We are moving warehouses in a couple of weeks and I wasn’t supposed to get this new stock until we were moved and settled. For starters I don’t want to have to move it and more importantly I don’t have time to get it all organized, but I feel like I have to with the clock ticking on the invoices. Every day this week something new has arrived and each day it made me want to cry.

I cheered myself up by playing ‘Rock Band’ for a couple of hours. I have serious talent (I am not bragging just telling you the facts — Rock Band said so!) when it comes to guitar playing (and singing but that does sound like bragging). I think the pizza delivery boy was impressed. I just wish I would have worn a bra! Hehehe.

All commenters will be entered to win a pair of Bical Grippers. I will randomly draw a winner on Monday, March 17th, 2008.

The photos are definitely suitable. It’s not like you took the pictures on a dirty carpet or something. The background is not distracting but actually adds an organic feel to your products. And by the way, the products look great.

Bra? Bra? What’s a bra?

I think the pictures look fine. The stuff is so cute that it’s probably not too hard to move.

The pictures look good, but definitely not as professional as when you take the background out… not what you want to hear, I know, but just my thought on the matter.

I second Jamie…you have an established clientele though, so I think most people won’t care.

I think the pictures look fine. All the new stock is just so cute!

I think with the photos being of new spring things..they look good on that background – you did good having it at an angle. I was wondering for my jewelry – what program you use to make the backgrounds white and if you have to put a white page under the picture and color it all out with your mouse or if you outline and remove or what you do – the one I have, I have to do layers and color out what I want and it is great for fun things, like making J pet a bear or swim with penguins – HERE and HERE – but for the repetition of jewelry – what a pain!!! But, it sounds like yours is not so much easier than mine….darn it!

Wow you have some great new products. I was not distracted by the background at all.

lace · March 16, 2008 at 12:12 pm

I think the photos are fine how they are. The floor is light and doesn’t distract from the product in my opinion. Maybe if you have time down the road and want to take out backgrounds you could.

I think the pics are fine! They’re nice and bright and clear. I wouldn’t bother with them if I were you. Funny about the bra- the gas meter reader always catches me bra-less in my PJs.

I think the pictures look great; I wouldn’t worry about it at all!

kim · March 16, 2008 at 6:59 pm

The pics are fine to see the clothes, but next time I might photograph them on a more uniform background.

I think I would remove the background as its a little distrcating with the clothes ,but not do the shadow- Can you farm it out?

Andrea · March 16, 2008 at 10:37 pm

That little outfit is SO cute. And I love bamboo stuff – it is insanely soft and cuddly! :)

I think it looks more professional with the background removed.

Andrea · March 17, 2008 at 10:39 am

I think the photos’s are fine, but do look more professional with the background removed! Oh an that out fit is really, really cute. I hope you start feeling less overwhelmed. I know the feeling – in a different way.

laurie h. · March 17, 2008 at 11:22 pm

i’ve been spending the last week removing the background on pictures of bows that my friend sells online–i feel your pain!! just looking at the file of photos is painful sometimes, but it *is* rewarding to see them look so nice and tidy.

The pictures are OK. If I were you though, I would buy an inexpensive home photography setup with good lighting and backdrop… makes a huge difference in my opinion.

You could lay out the items on baby wrapping paper or on a pastel colored tablecloth, to see how they would look. I know that REI has done an amazing job of presenting their onesie’s, check their website. I believe they use a clear manequin bodice to hold the material out. It sure helps sell the product.

Personally I think the pictures look fine.
