Last Days of Summer (contest continues)

Published by on

Winner is: Kim R. – Kim please email me: kim (@) mommyknows (dot) com with your address :)

Summer is flying by. This is our last week before school starts. I’ve been battling a 4-5 day head-ache. The pain-killers are making me so lethargic. I finally forced myself out of the house today.

I took dozens of photos. Most of them stink (I can’t get the lighting right, shadows everywhere). A few worked out OK (after a lot of work). It’s extremely frustrating. MUST. READ. THE. MANUAL. It’s just that with the head-ache the last 200 pages of the camera manual aren’t at the top of my list of things ‘to do’.

Here are a few that turned out OK.

Summer / Elizabeth
I am not sure why she has her tongue stuck in her bottom lip like that?! Regardless, I loved the colours, especially her eyes and the highlights in her hair. Note to self: buy Lizzy lipsmackers.

Georgia / Flowers
Georgia picking flowers. I took a dozens of photo’s at this spot. Her hair is really hard to photograph … too white. Unfortunately, she often ends up looking like the off-spring of Einstein (we’ll take the hair if she gets the brains that go with it). To those of you wondering, YES … I brush her hair.

C @ the Park
This is ‘C’ a friend of Lizzy’s. Isn’t she gorgeous? She was also extremely cooperative, unlike my own children, who have a tendency to frown/glare at the camera or just refuse to look at it all together (Georgia … I’m talking to YOU).

Are your kids back to school? Are you ready? Are they? Sigh … so NOT looking forward to it.

All comments and back-links for this post will be entered to win a $10 Starbucks Gift Card (includes shipping and handling). If you comment and blog about the contest you’ll receive two entries (too easy). I have a whole ‘schwack’ of Gift Cards to give away, so make sure and come back often for a chance to ‘have a coffee on me’.

My kids aren’t back yet. One on the 2nd, the other on the 8th. I am ready. It has been too cold for the pool so we’re about ready to kill each other. The weather’s been weird. Usually it’s still steaming hot here in August.

Beautiful girls! The eyes! The hair! The bone structure! hehe

Welp, my lil guy is only 2 so we are going to be doing some preschool homeschool activities but he’s with me 24/7 still.

Do you tweak the color on your photos? They are really gorgeous! And so are the subjects, of course…

So sorry to hear about your long-lasting headache. My sinus ones are bad enough! Your girls and friend are all beautiful! I hope you feel better as I am writing this. Take care, Cindi

@ Divrchk – weather is weird here too. It’s either HOT or COLD, today it feels like fall. Hoping for an indian summer.

@ Mama K – Thank you! I could use you here for some pre-school activities. NJ kinda too far for visiting, eh?

@ Andrea – Thanks for stopping by. I’ve missed you :) Yes, time goes so quickly. I miss the baby days.

@ Naomi – Yep, I do … I use Lightroom and PhotoShop to get better results. Mostly to correct the ‘incorrect’ settings I have my camera on.

@ Cindi – Yah, the headache really stinks. Thank you.

What beautiful pictures. I have to say I love the color of Georgia’s hair. I hope your headache fades away soon, I know a lavender bath with the lights off helps mine at times.

I tried this once and it didn’t show up, so If I double post. I’m sorry.

I just wanted to say that I love the color of G’s Hair, and that I am jealous of your new camera. I’m doing some freelance work and hopefully will be able to put a little away to get a camera that takes that quality of picture by the holidays.

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve suffered from a headache for that last few days. I know that when I get one and nice lavender bath with the lights out can help.

My son, chase, is one and this summer he went swimming for the first time. He really enjoys going in the water in his inflatables and splashing the water. I’m going to miss the warm weather and going to the pool, etc.
**your pictures turned out fabulous-do you have an SLR digital camera?
the picture quality is amazing- usually pictures have some blur in them even with the anti-shake/image stabilization in the digital cameras. I’m looking for an excellent camera so let me know I’d appreciate it-thanks : )

Back to school has a whole new meaning for me this year. We are taking our son 15 hours from home to attend college. I am thrilled he has decided to go to bible college, but wow – so far from home. He is my youngest and I shall miss him greatly. Thank God for cell phones, web cams and instant messaging. I am going to be needing a little starbucks to keep me going.

Your girls are beautiful!! I love the color of your little ones hair.

I hope your head aches soon give you some relief.

lace · August 27, 2008 at 10:49 am

I think those are wonderful photos. Did all of your kids have that white blonde hair as babies?

No kids to go back to school here but I’ll be back at work when school starts. My niece is hoping to start preschool. She’s 4 and has been wanting to go to school since she was 2.
