Lake Minnewanka Camera Whore

Published by on

We spent last week in Canmore, mostly enjoying Banff National Park.

A great place to visit with kids is Lake Minnewanka. Of course, the first kid criteria is water. If there is water, it gets my kids ‘two thumbs up’. There’s also an ice cream stand, and the hiking is flat which is tremendously important to the kids. OK I’m fibbing, don’t tell anyone, but I am the one that likes the flat hikes.

The kids and Mr. Mk always take the high road.

But, I digress.

They strolled, I strolled behind taking photos.

Unfortunately, we were being continually bothered by one small rodent!

He’s become rather famous.

I’m here to tell you, that National Geographic image, not so difficult to get. The ground squirrel is a camera whore!

Beautiful except for the squirrel which I could do without out. I see one of the rodents in my backyard every day. :)

@Hannah – thank you! One of these days I hope to get to New Zealand. I hear that it is spectacular. Also the home of many of my favorite Mountaineers.

Wow Kim, great pictures! amazing place, I will show them to my husband. When he was a lot younger he use to visit Canada and do some kayaking and hiking, my hubby is kind of outdoorsy, and my children are following his path.

I’m looking forward to meeting you next week, I can’t wait!

Thanks for the post. We tried to go to Zona’s last weekend only to find it is closed! There were construction workers inside, so we aren’t sure if they are closed for good or simply renovating. This was one of our favorites in Canmore! But I like Lake Minnewnka too. It is really worth seeing.

    MommyKnows · August 16, 2009 at 12:26 pm

@Single Maria – my favorite is the Tapas restaurant, then Crazy Weed. Thanks for stopping by.

So great place. I love places where nature is still on top. I wish more of that landscapes could be available in my neighborhood. Sorry to see beautiful areas being destroyed by mining industry or some ugly parts of cities. Sometimes I wonder if some of destroyed areas could be some day re-cultivated? Because some mines are just being filled with water and that is not the answer, the whole water system of region is disturbed with that.

    MommyKnows · August 22, 2009 at 2:23 pm

@vaillant – thanks for stopping by.

AdRock · August 24, 2009 at 8:05 pm

Breathe taking, sometimes it is easy to just let nature pass you by, the world is truly an amazing place.

Beautiful pictures and the place must be even better. I really should go somewhere like that just to relax and forget about the world in modern city.
It’s like heaven and hell =*)
