If you are like me … you need another toy around, like you need a ‘hole in the head’. I don’t care! I am going to give you one anyway – FOUR of you!

These wooden puzzles just arrived last week and we have a couple here @ home. So far they have proved invaluable, in my constant battle to keep Georgia in the house. I have nothing against the great outdoors, in fact I do spend at least 3 hours each day outside with her, but I just can not be out there ALL day! Georgia will be two right away and these puzzles are still pretty tough for her, even Sam who is six said, “they are challenging!” The challenge may be working in our favor, however, as she spends a LOT of time working on them.
The FOUR winners may choose their favorite puzzle, from designs on the site. As usual you just need to leave a comment to be eligible to win AND today I would like to know how you keep your babies / toddlers / kids / teens entertained at home (please don’t tell me the TV, because I can’t leave that on all day either).

I love wooden puzzles, they are simply the best. They stand up to countless plays….
I’ve got a three year old who loves to play with playdoh and will play it for hours. We make our own and I toss a package of koolaid in there every once in awhile, makes it smell so yummy!! As for my 6mo, well just watching the other five is entertaiment enough for him!!LOL He also loves his naked time on his waterproof mat. The older kids (10,8,6,4) all love to make crafts, I keep a big bin stashed with all kinds of odds and ends and just let them go at it. They build cities out of cereal boxes and paper and then use their lego people or barbies and cars to play. We also set up messy playtime too, their favourite is cornstarch, food coloring and water…we call it goopy goo…is it a solid or is it a liquid???LOL

Umm … I just realized my comment about not needing any more toys around might, may not do a whole heck of a lot to encourage the sale of toys on my site. People don’t listen to me –> I might not need toys BUT you do. You really, really, really do, buy some today!

Puzzles! Cool. What we do to stay entertained. We buy lots of really cheap stickers, (Gotta love the dollar store)(I peel the outside part off so they are easy to remove) and my son loves to take them off and put them on construction paper. He has a limited attention span so he can do it for 15 minutes but my 2 year old niece can do it for an hour. We also like to paint with water, use a paintbrush, construction paper and just water. They can paint over and over again, and they like to watch it dry.
My boys also really like a rice table, fill a rubbermaid bin with rice, lay down an old plastic tablecloth (or just an old sheet underneath) put some scoops and little trucks in there, let her go to town.
My 2 year old also likes to make paperbag puppets, I would like him to them do a puppet show, but we haven’t gotten that far yet.
My 2 year old also counts it a real treat to be allowed to flip through old magazines. (He needs to get out more often).

Puzzles….I used to do puzzles in high school. Sounds like fun. What can I do to enter? I’ve never been to your blog/site but it’s nice and informative. Having my first baby in July!

Wonderful sites – and great idea for a contest. So sorry I missed out on the fun in May so I will faithfully check back thru June! McKenna is just 8 months but I’m looking forward to our puzzle days as I am a jigsaw lover going way back. Would be happy to have her start to discover the fun of puzzles especially such good quality ones.
As for other ways I keep her entertained, we have not resorted to any TV yet but I am about to intro the Signing DVD’s to ramp up our learning. She loves her Exersaucer & jumper. I like to take the saucer & a blanket outside to play in the shade when it’s nice out. She has just discovered Roll ‘Arounds & Peek A Blocks and we are working on shape sorting and banging things together. Anything she can handle as she sits is a sure thing. We also do a lot of reading & looking at books.

I keep my 2 year old son busy by letting him play with water in the kitchen sink, he love helping me washing dishes and veg. Oh and he loves to cut paper and blue them together :)

For me I keep the toys put away and only bring out certain ones at a time. It keeps them more interested. So I have 2 girls 5 & 3 and a 6 mo old boy. My Girls LOVE polly pockets and Blocks, keeps them entertained for at least an hour. Rotating toys, keeps them busy and keeps them from getting board with the toys.

we love puzzles!!!!!!
we go on nature walks (he gathers flowers, etc) then we bring them back home and tape them to a page.
anything arts and crafts (playdough, crayon pages, legos)

the park
red light, green light
he loves to ‘wash’ dishes. i’m serious the kid is nuts. he makes such a mess but, he is so proud of himself when he ‘helps’ :)

My son loves wooden puzzles, so they keep him indoors. Also, I set him up with PlayDoh and cookie cutters on one of my cookie sheets (so scraps don’t get trampled into the carpet). Also, he likes to make tents with blankets in the house.

We love puzzles, They are great for rainy days. One way that my kids like to stay busy is playing with play dough. We get all the stuff out and spread it all over the kitchen table. We open restaurants and play on the farm, and make silly creatures, and make the people hair grow. Play dough just keeps their imagination going for quite some time. They love it.

my almost 2 year old LOVES water. Anytime she can wash her hands, spill it on the floor, splash around in it, she is completely happy. Now, water all over the floor does not a happy mommy make, so we found her one of those sand tables. It lives on the back porch, so I can see her even if I have to be in the kitchen cooking dinner. Every few days we rotate the toys in the water so that she doesn’t get bored.
Oh, and the other thing that keeps her busy are puzzles. But of course, she is still at the point where she needs mommy’s help and will, every few minutes, ask “hehp, mommy?”

Puzzles are the best….you can start small and then grow into a love for them to last a lifetime. We were really afraid our Lab would chew on them but luckily she never bothers Annslee’s stuff….guess she knows who runs this house LOL

I love wooden puzzles, and the Schylling ones hold up great! My 4-year-old likes puzzles, and my 20-month-old likes to chew on them. :) Other things they love are plastic animals. They could play with them for hours. The best ones I’ve found were at Lakeshore Learning. They have a farm set and a jungle set. They also have a couple of dinosaur sets. They’re made really well and the animals are bigger than most. Thanks for these cool contests!

I have a ten month old so a very animated version of “Old McDonald” works very well to keep her entertained.
I know she would love a puzzle! At first just to munch on but later to actually play with.

I actually need more toys! My son is bored of his of his present variety and a puzzle would be a wonderful addition. I agree with Susanne that plastic animals are great. I should get some. Also, I was over at a friends a few months ago and she had plastic foods. Like pizzas, eggs, all kinds of plastic foods. My son loved them. I have been trying to find some and have not had any luck.

I love puzzles for kids.
To keep the kids entertained, we have craft time with stickers, glue, paper etc. Sometimes a swim in the bathtub is another option. Getting to wear their swimsuits in the bathtub is exciting for them.

My daughter is 10 mos and seems to be quite bored of her current selection of toys…so bored, in fact, that she goes for papers, books, anything lying around that actually isn’t hers (I think I mentioned her attempts to steal the dog’s bone in another contest entry!). So obviously my attempts to entertain her while at home are not going over very well! I know she would enjoy munching on some wooden puzzle pieces!

I have to agree with water as one of the best toys….bathtub, kitchen sink, water table outside, something all three kids can do at the same time without fighting….mostly. My 3 year old will sit on the floor for an hour with puzzles – we could certainly use a new one!

We don’t have any wooden puzzles yet. Right now we’re more into banging things, but I know our day is coming. The main way I keep Sera entertained these days is by letting her hold my finger while she walks in circles or putting away all her blocks so she can take them out again. Fun times! :O)

Awesome prize! My little one loves taking pieces out of puzzles and sliding them (as well as books, cars, clothes, anything he can hold and crawl with) around the house. So far, he’s pretty entertained by simple things like “finding” the piles of Rice Krispies he’s poured onto the floor and having a little snack. Oh, and pulling apart the plastic easter eggs we have on the floor.

My son is also memserized with the ole water and soapy bubbles in the kitchen sink, that usually will occupy him for a while… and cutting paper, gluing etc… and scooping and dumping little pieces of things with his construction vehicles… cotton balls, marbles coins,etc… We looove puzzles, especially wooden ones too!

Kayleigh just discovered aluminum foil! Rip off a sheet and let her go to town.. she’s only 16 mos. old but that keeps her busy for at least a few minutes.

puzzles are great. To keep the little one entertained we give him a cloth wipey and let him clean anything he can reach. He loves to clean give him the broom and he wil be entertained for at least 30 minutes. We also love to watch signing times. I know it is tv but at least it is good tv.

My ten month old loves to mimic us, so if I’m grooming, I give him his toothbrush; if we’re cooking we give him spoons and pans to play with; etc.

Great wooden puzzles are amazing! My little nephew Jayden who is 3 yrs old has been playing with similar puzzle since he was 1. It is so great to watch little ones figure out the piece and make them fit just right. You can almost see their brains working!

How appropriate! I’ve been thinking that I need to start doing more puzzles with my 3 yr old because he has a really hard time with them. And, my 10 month old will be doing puzzles before we know it! Love the puzzle idea!

WOODEN PUZZLES!! I grew up on those, handcrafted by my grandpa. I would love to have one. I keep my baby busy by constantly changing it up. Singing new songs every day, dancing while making dinner, reading whatever book I feel like reading her, and just laying next to her, holding her little hands. Now she just needs a wooden puzzle to go along with her wooden books! Thanks for having June Jive….maybe it will go on for July Jubilee!

oooooo my daughter is a puzzle freak. She is only 2.5 but is working on a 24 peice one now. She is getting good at it. :)
I am struggling to keep her inside, and without the TV on too. UGH….
I have been trying to include her in my chores…it is helping.
we also paint, play “get me” and take baths. LOL

Water paint outdoors is great as is sidewalk chalk and bubbles.
My oldest spent a good 45 minutes one rainy day making Play Doh “muffins” and placing them in the muffin pan. ;)

These look great! In fact, forget my kid – I would like to work with them, lol. Seriously though, this looks great! As to how I entertain my kid – frankly, it’s just pure innovation. Sometimes it’s things from my childhood, sometimes the internet provides good hints, parenting books etc. Nothing works everytime, but hey – never say never, right?

I haven’t quite figured out how to completely keep my son entertained, but a few things he likes are:
Word flash cards a la Teach Your Baby to Read He gets into it and really pays attention
Water play on the back porch with assorted tupperware containers
And taking plastic easter eggs apart and stacking them in a container

Wooden puzzles are great. Even for smaller babies. Before they are really interested in putting the puzzle together they are pretty fun to chew on. Atleast my daughter thought so.
