Whew! It’s been a busy few days. Hanging out with these kids, tires me out! The kids were away so much in early July, they both missed their bestfriend’s birthday’s. My mom guilt kicked in, AND you all know how much I like birthdays (hah!), so I had a little “mini-party” for the kids and their two friends at Chuck E. Cheese’s. Yes, I know I have lost my friggin’ marbles, it was a weak moment.

It wasn’t nearly as bad as it sounds and I am embarrassed to admit it, but I think that I actually like Chuck E.’s pizza (honest)! I am also a diet cola addict so the unlimited pop keeps me happy!

DSC_4682
This is Lizzy and her best buddy Chantelle. Note the matching hair clips, they look like they are left over from WWII days, now they just need a ‘house dress’ and an apron.

DSC_4686
This is Sam and his buddy Matt (I’m too lazy to fix the red eye). If you come here (this blog) often you’ll notice that Sam has a hair cut. After many, many comments that went something like this, “with hair like that he should be a girl”, or “too bad he’s not a girl, he has beautiful hair”, or “oh my, I thought he was a girl, he has such beautiful hair” , guess what? He cut his own hair! HELLO people, cut the ‘girl’ crap! This new ‘do’ is just damage control, but he went from ‘cool surfer dude look’ –> ‘weird Prince and the Pauper bob-thingy’.

DSC_4678
This is a bad photo of Georgia, really I just want to point out the red balloon, it is tied to the back button of her dress, it is my low-tech child monitoring system. I buy a balloon upon arrival and then I can sit back and easily spot her, where ever she goes. Very handy-dandy and quite ingenius if I do say so myself.

Really Chuck E.’s is not that bad for me. I sit in the corner with a book, pizza and an endless supply of diet cola. My children run wild (including the two year old). If they dare bother me, I say, “GO. PLAY. OR. WE. ARE. GOING. HOME. — off they run!

***

Today, we headed for Broadmoor Park, right in the middle of Sherwood Park! The kids really like this park, but I have to say the kids these days are getting more and more weird … just lOOk …

DSC_4687
Just by fluke, these Star Wars folk (these guy are part of the Badlands Garrison) were arriving @ the park as we did. Kids were certainly impressed.

DSC_4700
Unfortunately, the site of the Star Troopers sent Sam into a ‘fighting frenzy’ and he practiced some imaginary ‘light saber’ moves on this kid he just met!

DSC_4705
Funnily enough, the kid fled and Sam tried out a couple of moves on me!

DSC_4707
Without even putting down the Camera, I layed that ‘fake star trooper’ on his a$$. Notice the wimp is wearing a cute Mish Mish Tee and shorts.

DSC_4708
Not surprisingly, he climbed for safety! CHICKEN!

DSC_4711
One’s a chicken and this one’s obviously part monkey. I must say, “the Monkey looks very cute in her Deux par Deux dress (Lucy Collection Summer 2007)“.

DSC_4692
Georgia perferred the bike racks, she is telling me what she thinks about my idea of playing ‘in’ the park. No need to point out the Bical Grippers she has on right?

DSC_4690
We bribed her away from the bike racks, by pointing out a mama duck and her ducklings, waddling along the lake shore. Lovely Georgia, chased them back into the water! That is just one mama duck and her off-spring … she’s a brave, brave duck-woman!

DSC_4699
Thanks to Lizzy, Georgia didn’t follow the ducks into the water, but she came really close. YES, I would have put down the camera had she actually gone in (well after a couple of quick shots, I would have FOR SURE).

Today (Friday July 20th) I am giving away a $25 Gift certicates to a lucky commenter. I will randomly draw the winner sometime after 9 pm on Friday (might even be Saturday or Sunday).

To keep my oldest (4.5 years) outta trouble, we’ve had her going to Vacation Bible School this week (3 hours every morning…yahoo!) We also broke down and bought a trampoline and a little kiddie pool, which has kept her and 2.5yr old sister well amused. Highly recommend both! And in moments of weakness (more often than I like to admit), I will put a movie on. (Justified with: well, they’ve spent a lot of time in the sun, and they need some down time). I think it’s more like I need the down time.

glittersmama · July 19, 2007 at 10:19 pm

I’m a new mom–my little girl is 9 months old and just starting to get into things. So for now, I chase her to keep her out of trouble. I think I’m going to wear out pretty soon.

Bree · July 19, 2007 at 10:24 pm

I really like Chuck E Cheese pizza too*blush* but I love the refillable sodas more..hehe Looks like you guys are having fun! We have been doing Vacation Bible School the last 3 days in the morning, so that has been fun and busy, we have our fill of softball games during the week and park time:) then the pool and the bouncehouse in the backyard! I love summer!

Cherylyn · July 19, 2007 at 10:38 pm

A large rubbermaid container filled with water and a few toys, sits on our deck keeps them (1 and just turned 3) happy for a long period of time! I will be happy when we get grass however! We also LOVE our playpark and my three year old is happiest visiting Ikea on HOT days!

Kathryn · July 19, 2007 at 10:58 pm

We do as many VBS as we can find! Not really but the 2 big boys have been at a day camp all this week, Kayleigh and I mostly hang out but she loves ANYTHING w/water. Incidentally, before Kayleigh, Chuck E Cheese was one of my fave places too!. I might be brave enough to go back trying your balloon idea, thanks!

marcy · July 19, 2007 at 11:05 pm

Well I find my kids stay out of trouble when we are NOT at home. Plus I feel like a better mother when we are out.

So we purchased a year pass to our local ZOO. It is great and was very affordable. The kids love it and so do I. Plus we get some exercise walking around and burns off some of their energy.

Richard · July 20, 2007 at 12:49 am

Lol.. I hope you’re archiving your blog posts so your animal kids can see what you wrote about them!

Safire · July 20, 2007 at 5:06 am

In the DC area, there are so many free things to keep kids occupied. Besides all the monuments downtown (2 year old loves the geese), there are the museams, the zoo (free!), kid concerts every week (also free!), storytime at local book stores (again, free!), and countless parks to play in. I do like to walk to the farmer’s market and let her pick out some fresh fruit. There are pools, libraries, and free msn games to play. We’ve had a busy summer so far. Sounds like you are keeping yourself busy as well!

Divrchk · July 20, 2007 at 6:31 am

We joined the local pool and have been busy with playgroups for both kids. Once the fall comes, the slides won’t be so hot to burn their bums once again. We joined the summer reading program with the county so that forces us to go to the library once per week as well.

maddiesmom · July 20, 2007 at 8:13 am

My daughter is still young so she is easy to keep out things! Next summer will be much different….

Christina E · July 20, 2007 at 8:19 am

We take long walks every day and that tires my little girl out!

Lacey · July 20, 2007 at 8:51 am

What is it about bike racks. My niece prefers to play on the bike racks at the park too.

To keep the littlest kiddo (9months) out of trouble we carry her in a sling at the park. The older one (3) we just trail after her.

Mimi · July 20, 2007 at 9:00 am

I only have one baby girl for now so…there’s no big trouble but long walks, concerts in the park and pic-nics are some of our favorite summer activities ;-)

aBookworm · July 20, 2007 at 9:29 am

I was at my wits end wondering how in the world I’d spot my energetic little one, but now thanks to you, I know – I’m going to steal your brilliant balloon idea! Ah, the days I could curl up with a book. I’ve forgotten how that was. I’d never have thought ChuckECheese’s was the answer, lol. Glad you had fun. And the photos are awesome.

Susy-Q · July 20, 2007 at 9:49 am

I am amazed at how you manage to keep a good business running so smoothly and have time to enjoy your children and write on this blog. Maybe you should have been wearing the “Superman” outfit a couple of blogs ago! ;-)

Lisa · July 20, 2007 at 9:58 am

The two oldest are away at camp for the week. They will be home full of stories tomorrow. The little guy loves the trampoline. He even says bounce in his sleep at night. As soon as we open the door he is out running off the deck and getting on the trampoline and bouncing. Who knew a trampoline is a perfect play pen for a 20 month old.

Julie · July 20, 2007 at 10:28 am

Great photos! We traveled to Ottawa and Montreal last week so that has kept our nearly one year old busy. Right now we’re finishing last minute preparations for her first birthday party tomorrow so that’s keeping us on our toes!

Ann · July 20, 2007 at 11:41 am

Well my daughters love water…We go to the beach frequently. Other than that we either go for a walk or just stay home and relax.

MonaB · July 20, 2007 at 2:29 pm

My little one is almost 5 months so she is just learning to roll over! She is so much fun but I am sure by next summer, I will be chasing her all over the place so reading everyone’s ideas are great!

Janice · July 20, 2007 at 2:39 pm

Love the balloon idea!

My food secret is I like Burger King veggie burgers. And I had better, because it’s the only drive-thru around here. Okay, THAT’s my secret. I go to the drive through when the baby is asleep after swimming lessons.

Joi · July 20, 2007 at 3:01 pm

Well, if we are going out of the house, we go to the pool or park. When we are stuck in because it is just too hot for Harlie outside, the kids go to webkinz and play on the computer. Jalyn bought herself and her bubba one each with her birthday money – and it was all her idea – So grown up for 4! Her bubba is 9 and did NOT ask for it either, but did really want one. PROUD MOMMY MOMENT – Anyways, so, they both got their webkinz and numbers to set up accounts and they win money and build homes, etc for their pets. That is 30 minutes 3 times a day for each of them…I even sneak in a few games here and there. Oh.. and want to enjoy something with your kids in the house, put on a movie from when you were younger – Back to the Future, Willy Wonka (not charlie), etc.. They get a REAL kick out of them. :)

Deanne S. · July 20, 2007 at 3:25 pm

We too have a trampoline, it does wonders for keeping them busy, but it has been too hot to jump the last week :( We pulled our cube slide over and put the end of the slide in our little wading pool, they loved that! We went to Miquelon lake for the day this week, that was nice too and very close to Sherwood Park, only 30 minute drive!

Karyne · July 20, 2007 at 3:55 pm

Nice pictures. Your kids are very beautiful. Mine are too young to be in trouble.

Hey Kim, I dream about the Bical Grippers last night!!! I have to buy some for my daughter!

Kait · July 20, 2007 at 4:05 pm

Don’t be embarassed…I really like Chuck E. Cheese’s pizza too!

Priya · July 20, 2007 at 4:21 pm

My little one is going to be 10 months soon, she isnt crawling very actively still, however likes to walk with my hand support. So, am waiting forward to trouble me actually :)

Priya · July 20, 2007 at 4:22 pm

BTW, Lizzy eyes are so beautiful and dreamy :)

Alexia · July 20, 2007 at 7:03 pm

I haven’t been to Chuck E. Cheese in awhile, I’ll have to make a trip over there soon!

Luckily I am the proud parent of two beautiful boys, 13 months and 3 weeks. I can still toss my 13-month old in the crib when he gets into trouble *haha*

Seriously…WATER! If he gets to be too much trouble I plop him outside with a dishpan full of water and a couple spoons and cups. Keeps him busy for forever!

Heather · July 20, 2007 at 7:13 pm

It’s too hot here so we have been staying inside lately! We have built forts, played pirates, checked out library books, and done puzzles. My boys went to VBS and Matthew did basketball camp.

BTW, I think Sam’s hair is still cute!

Kami · July 20, 2007 at 9:03 pm

That baloon idea is genius!

I have been keeping them in water… spray park, sprinkler, kiddie pool, beach…

Summer is fun but tiring.

And Sam’s hair looks great:-)

crystal · July 20, 2007 at 10:17 pm

I love chuck e cheese pizza too and hey its air conditioned!

I keep my five kids out of trouble by sending them out in our fenced back yard. Its shady and I have a daycares worth of little tykes toys out there, they’ll just play the day away and keeps my house clean :)

Justine · July 20, 2007 at 11:00 pm

I think Sam’s hair still looks great. There was nothing wrong with it before but I can understand how there are only so many times that someone can hear comments about it.

I have my parents visiting from UK at the moment and that makes life very easy for me. They are “fresh blood” and full of enthusiasm about spending quality time with their grandson. They are here until the end of July, that just leaves August.

Great photos.

Andrea · July 20, 2007 at 11:27 pm

Hey!! Keeping Tate outta trouble? Hmmm…well, he likes to go swimming in his sandbox (which has no sand in it yet!) so that keeps him occupied for a good long time !;)

Allison · July 21, 2007 at 12:16 am

okay first of all your balloon child monitoring system rocks!! and made me giggle.
Hmmm how have i been keeping my kids out of trouble you ask…well really are my kids ever NOT in trouble..lol..seriously they’re 4 and 2. anyways we’ve been having water fights in the backyard, building sand castles, going the park, colouring with sidewalk chalk and painting with those cool tempera puck paints

Angella · July 21, 2007 at 9:38 am

Great shots! I have never thought of the balloon idea – I will definitely use that one!

I also have never been to Chuck E Cheese (we don’t have one). Unlimited DC sounds heavenly though :)

Laura · July 21, 2007 at 11:28 am

No one’s in school yet, so I must keep my kidlets out of trouble year-round. Summer is easier… playing outside in our backyard. I guess the fence my husband built keeps them out of trouble ie. the large highway that we live on.

Jennifer Bogart · July 21, 2007 at 4:27 pm

I am totally keeping them in the yard in the pool! Wahoo, keeps them cool, and entertained – they are out there for HOURS!

katie bowen · July 21, 2007 at 7:09 pm

glad to read other moms buy cool toys for their kids…aren’t we really buying them for us too…i mean, we have to play with them all day too!

by the way…the super cute crocodile creek lunch boxes work PERFECT for storing portable dvd players! excellent! they’re cushy and have a zillion uses! get one if u don’t have one yet! we LOVE ours!

Nikki · July 21, 2007 at 8:37 pm

We did VBS this past week too and it kept all of us busy. This week we have many “playdates” lined up so the girls (4&2) can show off their new brother (3weeks)

Cherie Pynn · July 21, 2007 at 9:15 pm

well, keeping them out of trouble can keep me busy at times, my son, youngest, just 7 months, is crawling madly commando style around the house belly on the floor and pushing with his toes (he is getting toe blisters)trying to pullup on everything and put all into mouth, so we put up the baby gates, i patrol the floor for chokables and taught dd 3 to take them away from him too…
I get dd to put on a puppet show or something for him to keep him out from underfoot while cooking supper…
keeping dd occupied and going to the water canons in the park a few towns over keeps HER out of trouble

Bonnie Collins · July 22, 2007 at 7:14 pm

My lo doesnt get into much trouble yet b/c she’s only 4 1/2 months old. But I am keeping her safe with a new Britax carseat. Now she looks so little in it! :) I can’t wait until we can go to CECheese!

Jen the Mom · July 22, 2007 at 9:13 pm

I loved that balloon trick! Ingenious!

PamW · July 22, 2007 at 10:39 pm

I love the child monitering system of a balloon. I’ll have to keep it in mind when my daughter is a bit older.
How do I keep her out of trouble? Well, it’s been easy until more recently, she’s always been curious but she only started crawling in the recent months. Today she almost took her first step (it was a half step, then she hesitated and stopped) and once she starts walking then I’m in real trouble. Right now we either try to keep her confined (our family room has become her “play room” and it’s a reasonable size for her to spend a fair amount of time in, supervised of course and as child proofed as it can get) or wide open spaced. But you never know. Today she helped herself to her first taste of chocolate by stealing a piece of chocolate cake when her auntie put her plate on the ground at a bbq. I already know she’s going to go looking for trouble and she hasn’t even hit 11 months yet! I’ll be trying some of the things from other people’s comments though!

Jamie · July 23, 2007 at 8:32 am

Am I too late to comment??

Keeping the kids out of trouble… Well, we tie them up in the basement. HA! Just kidding!

Our Zoo here is free, free FREE! And they just put in a new NEW NEW! splash pad! The kids love it! We go out there quite often, did I mention the free part??

Mrs. Pear · July 23, 2007 at 11:33 am

Sigh, keeping my sweet 2 yr old out of trouble is hard, we are having some work done in our back yard, and right now have no grass! It is very hard as she loves to play outside!

And we have no car during the week…

So we have been reading books, going for walks, and playing together. Of course, the fact that she is teething her 2 yr molars just makes it all that more interesting!

Crystal · July 23, 2007 at 10:14 pm

My 3 year old son would have LOVED the Star Wars characters. The boy is obsessed.

How do we keep him out of trouble? Basically, by bribing. ha! Plus, he’s actually a pretty good kid who doesn’t get into much. Yet. I also have a 1 year old son, but we’re still in the chase-him-around stage.

Kilikina · July 23, 2007 at 10:24 pm

My oldest one (almost 2) is actually a very good boy and doesn’t get into much trouble. i am not kidding. He picks up his toys before getting out another one, he puts them where they go in the closet. He is very obedient and the only trouble I have with him is getting him to eat! LOL. My baby is only 12 days old and well, he’s not really much trouble yet either! LOL

– count me in for the gift card….

Lesha Anderson · July 24, 2007 at 1:03 pm

I love the pictures! I’ve never been to Chuck E. Cheese before. ~lol~

Mary C · July 24, 2007 at 3:21 pm

I echo the VBS idea. Worked for us. (for a week, anyway).

I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by Chuck E. Cheese’s pizza went I went for the first time! It’s really good! Either that or I don’t get out much!

Diane · July 24, 2007 at 5:56 pm

I love the pictures… they are great shots! Well to keep my guy out of trouble I am able to strap him in to the stroller and go… he’s only four months still not able to get into trouble!
