I promised my kids I wouldn’t spend the summer sitting @ my desk doing www.thebabymarketplace.com stuff. I am trying really hard to keep that promise! I read a post a few weeks ago over at Beehive Academy, about saying “yes” to your kids. NO, it’s not about letting them rule the roost, it’s more about getting out of the ‘habit’ of always saying “NO”. I say, “NO” even when I don’t mean it, sometimes I don’t even think about what I am saying, I am just typing away and I say “NO”. It goes like this:

Kid: mom, can we have a popsicle?
Me: “NO”
Voice of reason: Uh, like why not … it’s 30C/90F, they ate their lunch, they’re outside …

Kid: mom, can we go to the park?
Me: “NO”
Voice of reason: Uh, like why not … it’s 30C/90F, I’ve been plucking away at this damn computer for hours (that’s why you get your orders so fast), they could use some fun …

Kid: mom, can we have lunch?
Me: “NO”
Voice of reason: Uh, like why not … it’s 2:30 pm, they haven’t eaten since breakfast @ 8:30 and (that’s why you get your orders so fast), they could use some FOOD …

You are starting to get the idea right? I have been trying to say “YES” when it’s something that is more important than this damn computer and REALLY having fun!

SunSmart and Bical
An afternoon at the Kinsmen Park. This is a kids dream park, there is a wading pool, several playgrounds, HUGE slides and if you think the city isn’t pretty, check out the view. This is Georgia, Lizzy and Sam (ALL in SunSmart).

SunSmart and Bical
As you can see the Bical Grippers really take a beating. They were in and out of the sand and water. These are the High Top Argyle Red, as you can see they aren’t quite as high as they appear on the site. The SunSmart – Superman 1pc Sun Suit with Towel Cape looks cute on girls too!

SunSmart and Bical
It was a great day afternoon! Looks fun, eh? Hey, jenB … come and meet me here, email and we’ll work out a time!

We received the Superman outfit in the mail today. I purchased it and a pair of Baby Legs using the gift certificate I won here. It is just too cute. We picked the traditional colors for our daughter. DH is a huge Superman/Batman fan. He said that Supergirl doesn’t wear pink. As soon as she’s up from her nap, dad plans a photo shoot. We love it!

Thanks again!

Lacey · July 12, 2007 at 11:16 am

I am very interested in the bicals. They look great for the park and the beach. Do their feet get hot? They look like socks. I wondered how well they breathe. I should just go for it and buy some to see for myself.

Andrea · July 12, 2007 at 11:42 am

Tasha · July 12, 2007 at 11:59 am

Love that suit.

Beth · July 12, 2007 at 12:24 pm

Cute suit!

maddiesmom · July 12, 2007 at 12:26 pm

Oohh, I would love to win the suit. The perfect gift for the new baby about to join our family!! (Dad is a HUGE superman fan!)

Cherylyn · July 12, 2007 at 12:28 pm

Hey, I am still fairly new to the city and have yet to go to Kinsmen, looks like a lot of fun! Is that just by the rec centre? I totally hear what you say about learning to say yes, it’s almost second nature to tell them no sometimes, espeically if you have a 1 year old kickin around and usually it’s a good idea to tell him “no!” Enjoy your wedding!

Deanne S. · July 12, 2007 at 12:44 pm

that suit is so cute! I live in Sherwood Park area, that Kinsman Park looks great, will have to go check it out sometime this week as we are melting today…..

Bree · July 12, 2007 at 12:51 pm

that suit is so cute!

have a great weekend!

Naomi · July 12, 2007 at 1:09 pm

These are both great and on the list of things I am forbidden to buy until Roo outgrows her present bathing suits and shoes or Jasper is born and actually needs ’em… What a great looking park, wish we could meet you there!

Priya · July 12, 2007 at 1:26 pm

The superman suit is cute. Have fun at the wedding.

Mrs. Pear · July 12, 2007 at 1:33 pm

My nephew needs these! So what if he is only a month old, it is never to early to have a snappy bathing suit!

I love these!

Thank you so much for this wonderful contest series, i love seeing all the new stuff available, and am making careful lists of what I MUST have!

And thank you so much for the Imse Vimse Training Pant!

Karyne · July 12, 2007 at 1:43 pm

I love the superman suit!!! But for my girls, I would like to have the supergirl, so cute!

Thanks for sharing nice pictures of your family.

Susy-Q · July 12, 2007 at 1:55 pm

I love the grippers and the suit. If only Superman could get a pair too, he’d look smashing! I’d love to win either so pick me…pick me…

Kathryn · July 12, 2007 at 2:18 pm

FUN!.. Iwish the superman suit was available in larger sizes. I should checkout exactly what size you have it up to. Does it run big or small?

Lisa · July 12, 2007 at 2:29 pm

Very cute stuff. I am glad you are trying to say yes. I have been trying to say yes even if it means no for now. I will say yes you can have a Popsicle after your nap or yes you can wear your bical grippers to the pool but now we are wearing our church shoes. It seems to make everyone have better days:)

MonaB · July 12, 2007 at 2:33 pm

Up up and away! The superman suit is so cute! Love to win them. We are going to get 30+ degrees in Calgary this weekend and it will be a hot one. My Nephew could sure love the suit.

Laura · July 12, 2007 at 3:07 pm

I am quick with the ‘no’s as well, and then I have to find some way of reversing it without seeming like I don’t mean what I say so the little tykes won’t walk all over me… :|

Pictures look fine. I would love either prize!!

Kami · July 12, 2007 at 3:09 pm

Looks like a great day! We spent the day at a Kinsmen park too… different city though ;-)

LOVE summer:-)

Deb · July 12, 2007 at 3:31 pm

My question is, how to you get your children to keep their swimwear on when they’re swimming? If that Supergirl outfit is hard to get off, please sign me up for that. My dd#2 is so fair, and once a drip of water lands on her bathing suit, she strips it off in record time. (Needless to say, with the heat we’ve been having, she’s a wee bit red).

jw4mkc · July 12, 2007 at 4:47 pm

Now I am stuck! Do I wait to see if I can win the grippers?..or do I buy them half off with the odds! Sheesh~~ Shoot.. If only the red argyle had been there when I had won – Then I would only pay shipping once – Dilemma Dilemma! Oh, and they are the right size! Okay.. I guess the rule is: wait and if it is not there when you go back, then it wasn’t meant to be – Man that rule stinks! “Come on big money” or in this case “Come on Red Argyle Grippers”

Mefeng · July 12, 2007 at 5:04 pm

I’m trying to say yes more as well. My baby starts to understand no but not always follow. I always say no and feel guilty.
Both suit and grippers are cute!

Pam · July 12, 2007 at 5:48 pm

I would love some Bical Grippers. We were at the Kinsmen last week in the wading pool (MommyKnows is right, Kinsmen Park is great for kids plus there’s a lot of shade for the parents, and picnic tables and firepits to cook over and staff to help entertain the kids with activities incase the playgrounds and wading pool aren’t enough) and since then my daughter is standing more and is gonna be walking and those bical grippers would be great for the Kinsmen wading pool and the other outdoor pools.
And I agree with the saying “yes” thing but my daughter isn’t talking yet, so it’s still up to me what we do (and right now it’s the park and outdoor pool and she hasn’t protested at all).

tanyetta · July 12, 2007 at 5:55 pm

love them! please count me in! :)

Carey · July 12, 2007 at 6:28 pm

Just put me in for the suit. I won those shoes already..they are so cute! My niece looks so adorable in them.

Mimi · July 12, 2007 at 6:39 pm

Superman is too cute!

Beth · July 13, 2007 at 5:46 pm

Very cute suit! I have trouble saying “no” out of habit, too. It is definitely something to work on.

Heather · July 14, 2007 at 11:40 am

That looks like an awesome park!

Angella · July 14, 2007 at 11:56 am

I hear ya on the NO as the first response. I’ve been trying to say yes more often too. Lovin’ summer as long as we can play in the water – looks like you had a blast :)

Yan · July 14, 2007 at 4:28 pm

Looks like a lot of fun, maybe we will head over to Kinsmen tomorrow!

Jamie · July 14, 2007 at 6:58 pm

Those suits are ADORABLE! My kids would freak!

I wish we had cool parks like that around here.

Sheena · July 14, 2007 at 10:23 pm

Hi there! I love your site’s design. I found you on mybloglog, and I shall be returning. I’d love to win this set because I’m currently stashing away baby gear for my future kids. Right now I’m just waiting on the financial “go” to start trying.

Deborah · July 15, 2007 at 10:54 am

Oh, I don’t know why I’m registering – I never win anything. But these are too, too cute, so I can’t miss my chance.

Jen the Mom · July 15, 2007 at 6:06 pm

Mommyknows,

I am thinking of starting an online business, not a competitor, and wondered if I could pick your brain. I wouldn’t hold it against you if you were sick of hearing someone say that and were too busy to get back to me but I wanted to ask since you’re already doing something that I’d like to jump into.

Thanks!

Annie · July 15, 2007 at 7:58 pm

Would be so lovely to win, and although I feel like the summer is already slipping away, perhaps my luck will come through this once, and we’ll be the coolest fam at the pool next summer …

katie bowen · July 16, 2007 at 11:15 am

more and more compliments on those darn Bical shoes…(u must read the text on the box that they come in…great use of the english language…good chuckles)

we love the shoes for our boat…i think we’ll have to buy a few more pairs!

saying “no” to kids comes so naturally…love the blog…a nice break in the daily mommy day!
