You were starting to think that I’d forgotten about you, weren’t ya? Nope, just on holiday!

***Note UPDATED to Include Friday July 6th (so FOUR BabyLegs to give away)!***

Our 60 km hike was delayed due to Will’s sore foot (I think he’s been jumping on the trampoline too much). We decided that the 60km, 3 days/2 nights backpacking trip was too much (for him) and decided to do some shorter hikes and bikes instead.

Saturday, I did 5/6 km hike with my mom, Georgia, Sam and Lizzy. Later in the day a whole bunch of us did a short 10 km hike up to Chester Lake – the hike is pretty short and relatively easy (not ALL up hill) but the views were fantastic!

DSC_4483
We saw this Moose on the drive to the trailhead. If you can’t see the moose … look at the mountains – LOVE that view!

DSC_4508
A type of wild lily – very pretty.

DSC_4507
More beautiful flowers.

I love flowers, I am not a gardener but I love to look at flowers and have them planted all around the house (thanks Will). Feel free to send me flowers any time.

DSC_4502
Lizzy and my nephews (Christopher (back) and Judd (front)) hanging out on a rock …

DSC_4496
Judd and Lizzy again, so many great photo ops!

DSC_4509
Judd is from New Orleans and eating snow in July makes him happy as you can see! Lizzy looks like she just might want to give him what we canucks call a ‘face wash’ (we violently rub your face in or with snow).

DSC_4489
Not far now …

DSC_4547
Kids relax near the lake.

DSC_4549
Alpine meadow beside the lake …

DSC_4559
My mom @ Chester Lake – you go Grandma!

Sunday was Canada Day, we had tons of fun! The day was full with a parade, picnic, concert in the park, bbq and of course fire works.

DSC_4587
Lizzy @ the petting zoo.

DSC_4582
Georgia @ the parade (look at the cute BabyLegs on her arms).

DSC_4580
Sam’s wearing BabyLegs on his arms too! Cute idea :) and even the big boys (11 and 13 wanted a pair)! I don’t know who the woman is behind him, but I am sure she’ll be pleased as punch to be on my blog.

DSC_4598
Hunky, Mr. MK in the park! Not happy, I keep taking his picture … SHEESH, if you’d smile I’d like STOP!

Monday brought 38 km of mountain biking and no photo’s as it was gruelling, character building day and no room in my pack for the 3 billion pound Nikon D-70 (which I love but hate to carry and use).

***

Today, I am going back to my trusty favorite FREEbie –> BabyLegs. I am giving away THREE FOUR pairs on July 6th @ about 9 pm’ish (one for the July 3rd (1st & 2nd were weekend and holiday here), one for July 4th and one July 5th and July 6th).

BabyLegs Jolly Jack

Winners may choose any style not just the Jolly Jack.

Happy belated Canada Day to all Canadian Readers and Happy Independence Day to all the American readers!

I was thinking over the weekend, especially on Canada Day in the park with the kids how lucky I am (we are) to have won the birth lottery and live so well. I was thankful that I am Canadian and that I live in North America. None of my great-grandparents were born in Canada, sometimes in the dead of winter I wonder what in the heck (in actual fact, the word I think is much nastier, but I’m remembering not to swear, except on Monday’s) they were thinking ?? ummm had they heard of California?? But this weekend hiking and enjoying Canada Day I was especially thankful they choose this place! I mean just check out the view …

My great-grandparents came from: Denmark, Sweden, South Dakota and Missouri (the USA family’s were in the States as early as 1718 (maybe earlier)).

To be eligible to win you need only leave me a comment AND tell me where you families “old country” is!

***

Note: The BabyLegs have been added to the Jammin’ in July coupon promo so if you don’t win’em you can buy’em … cheap like!

I’m giving away a FREE product every week day until the end of July. Read more here: Contest Details

Visit www.thebabymarketplace.com for a great selection of baby shoes and baby clothes, cloth diapers too, and don’t forget the baby toys!

My families old country is England, Ireland, Native Americans,

Now we live in Michigan, USA (as far back as I remember)

Safire · July 4, 2007 at 5:14 pm

My family is from England…I am first generation American! :) And let me tell you, it’s no fun growing up with a hankering for Mars bars and Aero bars and not being able to buy them at the regular grocery store. English chocolate rocks!

Keara · July 4, 2007 at 5:17 pm

Oh my gosh! Those pictures are beautiful! Looks like you had a great time!

I love me some baby legs too! Perfect for my sons!

Karyne · July 4, 2007 at 5:18 pm

The mountains are so beautiful. I would love to go see them (but it’s a little bit far from Montreal, Quebec!!!)

My great-grand-parents are from Montreal but I have Irish blood (Murphy is my family name).

carol · July 4, 2007 at 5:20 pm

Happy Independence Day to everyone!

My family is English and Native American. My family has lived in the United States for several generations.

Lucy · July 4, 2007 at 7:21 pm

It is beautiful there, and looks like you guys had a great time!

Lisa · July 4, 2007 at 7:25 pm

I hope you had a great Canada day. We went to a great Canada day celebration in mackinaw. Happy 4th of July. My family is mostly native American. So I consider America my old land although I do have some english heritage also.

Deb · July 4, 2007 at 7:55 pm

My parents were both born in Holland…and immigrated to Canada when they were young…which means I was born here. :) I too am proud to call myself Canadian!

Lisa G · July 4, 2007 at 8:01 pm

The pictures are beautiful. My ancesters have been in Canada for a very long time. I have German ancesters that came over in the 1800s. I’m also part English, Irish, Scotish and Dutch.

nikkapotamus · July 4, 2007 at 8:30 pm

WOW. i’m jealous of your moose sighting. my grandparents were Dutch and British, but mostly I’m an American girl.
Happy Canada Day! And Happy Independence Day!

Mrs. Pear · July 4, 2007 at 9:24 pm

We live in Southern California now, but we are Canucks! My husband and I were both born and raised in Manitoba, and he is my university sweetie! We married the year after I graduated from university (he beat me by a year, but he is a year older!), and then moved down here for a job transfer.

So I would love the maple leaf baby legs!!!

Oh, and we are sure to celebrate every Canada Day!

Angella · July 4, 2007 at 9:43 pm

You’re continuing into JULY ?!? I’m good for Baby legs, but wanted to say that those are GREAT PHOTOS!! Have a super day :)

Mefeng · July 4, 2007 at 9:48 pm

The pics are BEAUTIFUL, the mountain, the moose!! and of course your lovely family. Great that you had a good time there. My greats were from China, my parents are in Thailand and now we are in Texas.

jw4mkc · July 4, 2007 at 9:48 pm

St. Patty’s is our day – My mom’s mom’s great grandfather and my dad’s mom’s great grandfather BOTH came from Ireland and were two of the original settlers of the county they all live in now. Weee be a tad bit Irish & German & Indian & well.. Heinz 57

Marcy · July 4, 2007 at 9:59 pm

Well I am Irish, Scottish, Welsh and ITALIAN.

My Great Grandma was pregnant with my grandpa and was to come over on the TITANIC. She had such bad morning sickness that she chose to take a later Voyage. SOOOO GRATEFUL for that one.

MommyKnows · July 4, 2007 at 10:19 pm

Hey Marcy: who would have thought morning sickness would come in handy?

Lesha Anderson · July 5, 2007 at 5:17 am

Europe and Ireland :)

Kait · July 5, 2007 at 5:46 am

Great pics. And I LOVE the BabyLegs. We’re Irish.

Marla · July 5, 2007 at 6:29 am

I am embarrassed to say this, but I have no idea where the old country is for my family. I grew up being told our heritage was “French Canadian”…no idea where we came from before that! My DH’s family is all from Greece ~ does that count as heritage? Guess it does, for our children!

Love those babylegs ~ I was thinking my little guy is too old for them at 3, but now that I see the arm idea, I am definitely getting some!

leslie · July 5, 2007 at 7:06 am

i’m 7th generation canadian (via england/scotland)and i’m in love with the ‘oh canada’ babylegs….

Naomi · July 5, 2007 at 8:38 am

Oh, wow, the mountains are amazing. About exactly the opposite of the scenery here in Kansas, I’m afraid.

My mother’s family is Japanese, from Okinawa, and my dad’s is Russian/French/English/German. So pretty typically America, I guess!

artsweet · July 5, 2007 at 8:51 am

What fantastic pictures… your family is so beautiful! And oh… so is the scenery.

As you know, we LOVE baby legs!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/art_sweet/522698716/

My family is all Eastern-European Jewish – in the USA for about 100 years.

Montserrat · July 5, 2007 at 9:37 am

Those mountains are GORGEOUS! We farm in the deserts of Nevada so I really appreciate seeing pictures such as these.

I’m a sort of Heinz 57. My ancestors come from so many different places: England, Wales, Spain, and Mexico are the biggest contributors to my DNA.

Priya · July 5, 2007 at 10:03 am

Oops I forgot to add…I am from India, now settled in the US of A since 5 years. All family & friends are back in India.

Bree · July 5, 2007 at 10:59 am

I love those pictures! the scenery is breathtaking!

Long long ago my family came to the US from Germany and Ireland :)

Nicole · July 5, 2007 at 11:31 am

My family’s “old countries” are England, Ireland, and Finland.

Anu · July 5, 2007 at 12:08 pm

Awesome pics. And I LOVED the BabyLegs.Would love a pair!

Yan · July 5, 2007 at 12:35 pm

Love your pictures, they are great, looks like a lot of fun!
My old country is China.

Annie · July 5, 2007 at 1:41 pm

The photos are certainly gorgeous. My fam is originally from Eastern Europe, and immigrated to Manitoba, where they bought land and became farmers. We’ve since all moved into the big city (and I’m now in Ontario), but I’m always sentimental about the prairies.

Julie · July 5, 2007 at 1:47 pm

Great photos! My ancestors are from Ireland and Scotland. But we were just talking about this today – my daughter is a fourth generation Calgarian (you don’t meet to many people who are actually from Calgary these days…mostly they’re from Saskatchewan)!

MonaB · July 5, 2007 at 2:40 pm

My family’s old country is China. My father immigrated to Canada when he was 14 years of age and I am first generation Canadian born and raised in Alberta. My husband’s family is from Germany. He was born and raised in Germany and moved to Manitoba with his family to continue on their horse breeding business 20 years ago. We now call Alberta home but do travel back to the old country as often as we can.

Aimee · July 5, 2007 at 3:16 pm

My great-great grandparents came from Ireland and Sweden, settled in Missouri and we’ve stayed close to the midwest ever since. DH’s family is ALL Irish, came over to Iowa during the potato famine. We’d like to get to Ireland some day, see the old country. And Irish blood makes beautiful kids, blue eyes and freckles.

Got any Irish babylegs, we’ll take a pair.

Deanne S. · July 5, 2007 at 3:49 pm

My grand-parents are Ukrainian on one side and British on the other. My family is Canadian, left Saskatchewan (like many other people) about 15 years ago and have been “Albertans” every since. I LOVE Alberta (esp. Sherwood Park)!!

Babylegs are GREAT!

Mary C · July 5, 2007 at 4:23 pm

Beautiful photos!

My family is Scotch-Irish-German. Now we’re southern!

Dying for some babylegs over here! :)

Pam · July 5, 2007 at 4:49 pm

Beautiful pictures! They make me want to go to the mountains!!! My DH doesn’t feel comfortable tenting it with a ten month old though so it’s not going to happen this year (Slave Lake here we come instead…..lol).
As for the old country, it would be Ukraine, Germany and Poland.

Jamie · July 5, 2007 at 6:17 pm

Can you believe that I only JUST now stumbled across this blog?? And you a fellow Canadian to boot?

Those mountains don’t even look REAL. They look kind of like they were painted there! Gorgeous! We’re planning on driving that way sometime… maybe one day when I don’t have to whip out a boob every hour or two…

Jamie · July 5, 2007 at 6:22 pm

Aw crap, I forgot to say where the old country is! Can I now??

I am a mutt. My dad hails from the United Empire Loyalists, so the British folk, and my mom hails from the French. Interesting combo, hunh?

Susy-Q · July 5, 2007 at 7:42 pm

I miss the mountains! I spent 10 years going to Alberta in the summer for work. Good old treeplanting. I saw a lot of beautiful country doing that job and it made me prouder than ever of being Canadian and working hard to turn the landscape back to it’s beautiful self.

As for my “heritage”, it is Italian (from Dad’s side) and French (from Mom’s side).

Janice · July 5, 2007 at 8:37 pm

I love that shot of the mountains & moose.
I have ancestors from England, Ireland, and Germany. But the ones I know the most about, my great-grandparents, were born in Norway, though they met here in the U.S.
I try to celebrate my Scandinavian heritage, and belonging to Daughters of Norway helps do that.

Cherylyn · July 5, 2007 at 9:13 pm

The old country? My grandpa emigrated from England, but other than that, we are going back generations (at least 5 or 6). I feel pretty Canadian eh?
The canada babylegs looked great!

Kami · July 5, 2007 at 9:22 pm

Fabulous pictures! Glad you had a great time :-)

don’t need any baby legs but just for fun, we are Pukes. Polish/Ukrainian – the borders changed and it’s really fuzzy exactly where my grandpa’s were born.

hmama · July 5, 2007 at 9:54 pm

family is from the netherlands.
would love the spice babylegs!

Marcy · July 6, 2007 at 12:13 am

Tasha · July 6, 2007 at 9:22 am

Hi, can you tell me where Chester Lake is? Looks like a beautiful spot.

Great Great Grandmother come over on the boat from England with the kids, apparently quite a feat in those days. Or so I’m told anyway. Dad’s side is Welsh, way far back.

Tasha · July 6, 2007 at 9:23 am

Okay forget that – I found your link :-)

Alexia · July 6, 2007 at 9:58 am

I know that my mom’s family is native American. I don’t know about my dad’s. We’ve been in American for a long time :)

Corey · July 6, 2007 at 10:18 am

Great photos! My family’s old countries are Russia and Lithuania.

Laura · July 6, 2007 at 10:20 am

My maternal grandfather was French Canadian.
My paternal grandparents are Irish… it’s finally showing up in my kids hair!

Would love a pair of those BabyLegs… thanks for keeping the contest going!

Mama K · July 6, 2007 at 11:25 am

We say we’re German, but we’ve been over her since before the civil war on my mom’s side of the family. My dad’s from WI where 60% of the population is of German decent so we have a bit of the culture from there.

Man, I really want those jolly jacks!

Heather · July 6, 2007 at 2:17 pm

We’re German mostly… as a matter of fact, DH and I had dinner at a nice German restaurant just last night!

Cherie Pynn · July 6, 2007 at 7:59 pm

Hi great moose shot!!
once we got close up to (Elk i think?) on the way to johnsons canyon in the rockies, but hard to get a good pic!

He is from Newfoundland so Nana calls the kids Newfozzies
My kids are Kaelyn 3 and Aiden 6mths
Either one of them would love some babylegs

Cherie Pynn · July 6, 2007 at 8:15 pm

I already commented but wanted to add my husbands newfoundland heritage is supposedly Pirate Pike who eloped with a princess, thats what they tell me:)

and-i want to get some babylegs for next winter for my son anyway, its just getting the hubby to agree to the extra spending maybe if they are cool enough he will break and become a babyleg pusher
once he likes something he does that, pesters everybody…haha
.i am glad that somebody finnally thought of a cool way to deal with gapiosis, it always did disturb me getting through the walmart parking lot with kaelyns little legs freezing all the way from the little socks to almost the little knees

txhorns · July 6, 2007 at 8:55 pm

Would love the babylegs. My family is from the Germany/Austria area, bth sides. But, now we claim texas as our home state. Too bad there aren’t any Lone Star BabyLegs yet!

Southern Mom · July 6, 2007 at 9:34 pm

I’m probably too late for the babylegs, but thought I’d try anyway!
My dad’s family is Native American (way back though), but my mom’s family is English/Irish.

I adore that picture of the kids on the log across the stream…you should have that one blown up to give to the family!

Kathryn · July 6, 2007 at 9:57 pm

I don’t know if I’m getting in before 9 but I”m trying! My mom’s family is Welsh, before they settled in Canada! (Northern Alberta but I’m a US reader).. My dad’s family is originally German. After being raised in Calgary, I now reside in WA state.
