I have several hard-drives full of photos. For every 100 I take, I generally like 3 or 4 and it’s only those few that I process and upload to Flickr.com. I’ve been going through them and finding images that I love (now), I remember being disappointed when I took them. They weren’t what I wanted or expected in terms of lighting and composition. Now that I have forgotten what that was, I see something else there …

georgia loves her dad

A sweet child.

The world’s best dad.

They make each other happy.

I probably like these photos now, because I’d forgotten that this next photo was taken just a few moments prior.

How do you deal with ALL of your digital images? What should I do with all my photos? Any suggestions?

I’m afraid I’m in the same boat. Multiple external hard drives and constantly filling up my laptop’s hard drive is getting old fast. Ideally, I’d like to start taking less photos – better ones the first time around. Let me know if you find the answer! :)

Woman, I am SO coveting your camera and, um, your eye for taking good pictures, too! Loverly!

I LOVE your photography, Kim! All of those shots are amazing in my eyes, but then I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bad photo of yours.
I don’t take as many pics as you, so am in no danger of running out of storage space on my external hard drive! But being a scrapbooker, I make sure I print out all my favourite photos and either scrap them or put them in albums to put on the living room bookshelf. I don’t like the thought of having 1000’s of digital images that nobody can see, and never printing them out. There are places that put together photo books using digital images, maybe you could get a couple made?

I struggle with the same issue. I think it is a by-product of owning a DSLR! Since I find myself having to buy larger and larger hard drives (not to mention the backup drive), I have come to realize that some need to be culled. I’ll bet I could drop half of my collection and never miss it.

I am a camera happy dad.. and I am still using film, but everything gets scanned… then burnt to disk.. put on Flickr.com (least the ones i like) and for amusement of my little one.. put on a sd card in a digital frame, set to random. which of course brings huge fun as she runs around “remember Daddy We.. and .. that was when….”

I’m about to have to buy another external hardrive just to keep mine on! I go a little crazy with the whole documenting of life thing…obviously.
Those photos are gorgeous. They show so much love between daddy and daughter.

Right off the bat I’d suggest a Drobo because of the ease of managing the size of the internal hard drives.

Otherwise I’d suggest reading this article? Protect Your Photos and Your Wallet
