30 Tiny Moments – Day 6

Lizzy’s ‘New Do!’

Twisting your ...
Warning: winding your hair around this teeny-tiny little comb over and over and over, may result in bangs shortly after.

This is just the most recent of Lizzy’s ‘New Do’s!’ She has a long history of scissor wrangling.

Hair Disaster 1 - 2002
This is a photo taken after her scissor wrangling debut in January, 2002. As you can see she cut the hair on ‘her’ left side to the scalp. She left the other side shoulder length. This photo shows her ‘pixie cut’, it was my attempt to salvage what hair was left.

Lizzy Hair Disaster 2
About the time the ‘pixie cut’ above grew out, and I could stop explaining to people that she, “she cut her own hair”. She did it again. Here’s the great bang trim she gave herself to start playschool in the fall of 2002.

I wonder, will it ever end?

Have any of your kids had hair disasters? Tell me about it! You can blog about it and leave me a link or tell us all about it in the comments. I’d love to see pictures.

Hmmm … I think there might be a new contest starting tomorrow. Are you up for it?

Well, Emily is still bald. Graham and Nathan have not cut their own hair.

Yet.

I love the photos of Lizzy, though :)

LOL at her history – I guess she’s an aspiring hairdresser?!

My kids haven’t cut their own hair. I hope they never do!
But my sister cut her bangs SO short that they were only about an inch long! She looked soooooo ridiculous!

No bad hair accidents yet. I am actually more worried about my own scissor skills since I feel my son’s first trim coming soon (getting lots of suggestive comments concerning those long curls). I personally like the cute curls but since he is not a sheep dog, he should really have his bangs trimmed.

Lizzy’s “New Do” does not look like the result of an accident. What beautiful hair your children have!

We haven’t had any hair cutting incidents yet. But, since I have a boy, that would make it a little easier…the worst he would probably get is a resultant buzz and, though he would look strange, it would grow out fast.

No she did not!!! So far nobody has ventured into playing beauty school. However my oldest shaved his eyebrows off once…the day of my friends wedding. not pretty.

glittersmama · February 3, 2008 at 9:12 pm

Maybe she’ll be a famous hairdresser. Specializing in bangs.

Two of my daughters have cut their own hair but neither one was very bad. The best story is about my husband when he was six he cut his sister’s pigtail right off. Just one. His mother was on the phone and screamed “NO!” as he was doing it and then hung up the phone. She doesn’t remember who she was talking too but she’s sure they thought a murder was being committed.

Our 10 year old cut his recently – I never in my wildest dreams thought I would need to hide the scissors from a 10 year old boy in fear of him cutting his hair :)

Thank goodness there haven’t been any hair cutting incidents though I’m sure one is on its way. The worst that’s happened to Malie’s hair is scissors in my hands.. oi. I tell you she sits no where near as still as her big sister!

Mom On The Run · February 4, 2008 at 3:45 am

Nope, so far scissors have never found their way into my girls’ hands, however it’s justa matter of time before they do!

gum in the hair! and, no ice cubes don’t work!

Kait · February 4, 2008 at 8:36 am

That is hilarious! What a history. My son hasn’t done it yet, but with boys it’s not such a big deal. My little brother cut his own hair at age 4. His hair was longish and he cut a huge chunk right outta the front. He denied doing it. That is, until my mom showed him the severed chunks in the sink and trash can.

Naomi · February 4, 2008 at 8:38 am

No hair disasters yet, although I’m dreading the onslaught of bubble gum and Roo’s curls…

Laura · February 4, 2008 at 9:09 am

My kids haven’t done this yet. Perhaps they fulfill this need by playing with their PlayDoh barber set. My kids actually could use a good cut… is Lizzie available? They look… unkempt.

My husband’s cousin’s daughter get a hold of the scissor and have given each other haircuts twice now. Good job they look good in pixie cuts. Their mom tries to get work done elsewhere and ‘monitors’ them via the intercom system… yup, I guess that doesn’t work with girls. When girls get into trouble, it is of the less noisy variety.

Laura · February 4, 2008 at 9:10 am

Sorry for my grammar above… I hope it is read-able!

Your kids are too adorable! Great idea on her part! Cindi

Safire · February 4, 2008 at 12:22 pm

Nope, we haven’t even done the first haircut with Butterfly. She has never had scissors touch her hair yet. She looks okay, but I see scissors in our future. (Hopefully the barber’s kind, not her own!)

Well for some reason the pictures are not loading for me. I will have to check back later to see if they will work.

I cut my own hair when I was little. I had gum stuck in it and thought I would get in trouble so I cut the gum out .. with a giant butcher knife. I’m lucky I still have 2 ears, a nose, and 2 eyes. After that I had a cute little paige boy in time for school pictures.

Have you ever had the experience of sitting near a 4 year old who is using scissors and then hear the scissors a little to loudly, looking down and noticing hair falling into your lap!! I have had the pleasure of that experience as well.

My dd has not cut her hair but cut her brothers bangs right off. He has had a buzz cut ever since:)

jennifer · February 4, 2008 at 5:25 pm

Fortunately we have not had any big hair mishaps, but there is always tomorrow. I think Lizzy looks cute with her bangs.

Well dd is only 8 months old so we have awhile (thankfully!). We have had the “I would rather my oatmeal be in my hair than in my stomach” look, but thankfully nothing permanent as of yet.

Kristian · February 4, 2008 at 7:34 pm

too funny. since cade is too young to chop his own hair, i’ll tell you what i did…at the ripe young age of 9,the budding hair stylist that i was-i wrapped one of those brush style curling irons (moms) around the top half of the hair on the right side of my hair. it got stuck and i attempted to remove it with butter (without mom knowing that i used her curling iron) not only was my hair tangled in the curling iron but it was also “cooked”. needless to say i had to cut it out. did i mention that my hair was half way down my back? i remember trying to cover it up with one of those side ponytails. it didn’t work.
