Georgia Longstocking

Published by on

Every time I look at Georgia in braids;

37/365 { georgia longstocking }
I think about Pippi Longstocking. { project365 37/365 }

From ages 7 to 9, Pippi was my hero. I even tried sleeping upside down in my bed a few times. I am claustrophobic, so it never lasted for more than a couple of seconds. I just couldn’t handle all the blankets over my head.

I’m NOT going to tell you about the ‘homemade’ airplane, I tried to fly off the roof of the house! I’ll just leave you with this one thought –> I’m thankful now that it was one story dwelling.

Consider that last sentence my contribution to: ‘grace in small things’.

Tell me about some of your childhood favorites … books, tv, movies.

Oh my gosh! I loved Pippi Longstocking too! I used to think that if I looked in the mirror and REALLY WANTED IT then my hair would turn red just like hers and my pigtail braids would stick out =) Lol. It never worked! I bought one of the books for my niece when she was about Georgia’s age, and although she enjoyed it, she didn’t seem as enraptured as I remember being.

Anyway, another childhood favorite was Lear’s poem “The Owl and the Pussycat,” which I can still recite, probably backwards and in my sleep. And just about any book I could get my hands on, especially the ones with especially silly stories, like nannies who could walk upside down on ceilings and the like =)

Growing up in late 1950s Chicago in the heart of the city we subjected to many different cultures and lifestyles.I feel very blessed to have been exposed to the diversity. There is one thing that always brings a smile to my face, and that was the sound of Esoly calling out from his horse drawn cart. Hawking his fresh fare and knife sharping skills.

I used to LOVE Fame! I’d wear leg warmers and a leotard and sing into my hair brush and dance up and down the hallway of my apartment!

That’s one of a gazillion things I did as a young one. :)

Well what I wanted as a girl was to be able to braid my hair like Pippi, only with one hand… and skate on the wet floor in order to clean it… isn’t that a great way?

I used to act out “Little House on the Prairie” episodes.

For some reason, I was really intrigued with Mary. Especially when she was blind.

Once it caused an unfortunate altercation with a piano bench which resulted in my first stitches.

I still love Little House.

After a rain, my neighbors and I would make paper boats and float them in the ditches and watch them come through the pipes! Also, we would swim in really big puddles. I used to watch Lassie and cry during every episode! I loved Disney and singing. Cindi

I broke my leg in 14 places trying to be Superman. Seriously. Age 4. My leg still reminds me of it on a daily basis!

I loved Pippi Longstocking, she was definitely one of my heroes too! Mostly because she was SOOOO different to me … and I wished I could be more like her!

I was always a fan of Anne of Greene Gables. I too, had red hair and freckles (although, mine wasn’t quite as red as Anne’s). I totally felt her pain at being a redhead though…

Very cute! Our 4 year old daughter is a brunette and my wife sometimes puts her hear in pig tails. She definitely looks cute but not as authentic as your little darling with the blond pig tails although, I think pippi actually had red hair didn’t she?

Anyways, what fun!

Those are totally Pippi Longstocking braids!

I always liked to pretend I lived on an island by myself. Weird….

Pippi is da bomb! Still love her. And I agree with the fan of Anne of Green Gables, too. Really wanted to be a feisty redhead with braids when I was growing up. Still do, actually.

what a adorable picture.

I loved Wendy out of Peter Pan, my sisters and I used to jump of the couch and run around the room pretending we could fly.
