Desperately Seeking Pie Crust (I’m Guest Posting …)

Published by on

I found a great new recipe. I am sharing it today at my friend Sandy’s Blog the Reluctant Entertainer. Sandy and I met at the Kraft Blogger Event in Chicago in August, she is fabulous! She’ll love you all too … so go on over and tell her I sent you :)

Raise your hand if you’re afraid of pie crust. I’ve got both of my hands raised high above my head, and I am waving frantically. The fear stops here! There is no need with this EASY NO ROLL PIE CRUST from Joy the Baker.

I’ve long heard the ‘secrets’ of good crust from both of my grandmothers. One insisted it was the ice cold water and no over mixing. The other cold lard and no over rolling. Both of these ladies could make a mean pie (one still does) and I’ve been lucky enough to spend most of my forty years, a pie crust virgin. Oh I dabbled in it in my twenties, turning out tough crusts that tasted inferior to even store bought. It didn’t seem worth the work … and I was happy to give it up. Frankly, the rolling scared me.

I quiver in my boots thinking of making my own pie crust! This recipe looks great and easy. I will have to give it a try. Thank you!

I have to admit that although I have made my own pie crust several times, with success, I usually buy readymade (SHOCK, HORROR). My Grandma has a wonderful apple shortcake recipe and I love the pastry she uses, plus it is easy to make. It’s great when you find a quick & simple recipe that tastes great! Yours looks amazing!

You are a woman of many talents, girl! I’m definitely NOT going to be baking pies this Christmas, haha, unless someone either pays or threatens me (most likely it’ll be Costco). Looks interesting though. How’s the book coming?

Your pies look fabulous but I really should have been there to do a taste test! Perhaps next time?

Cool. I’ve never tried a no roll crust. I usually just use a recipe from the Joy of Cooking. It’s pretty straightforward, and it turns out yummier than the store variety.

I know from my experience that making such pie is not easy. To be honest for me it was always a failure but I’m gonna keep trying. Maybe next year something possible to eat will appear.

Hi Kim – a little late but thank you for being my guest on RE and for sharing the yummy easy recipe.

I have a favorite no-roll crust that is going in my book. It’s the best and so easy! Quite a bit different than yours.

Hugs and have a great day!

oh i’m not alone! i have long-term Pie Crust Phobia… I guess as a dress rehersal for Thanksgiving (here on thurs. in the US) I decided that I SHOULD try to make a pie crust this weekend. Well, she wasn’t pretty…but she tasted good! Sadly, I did use Crisco…but a little partially hydrongenated oils are too bad for us..right?! Hopefully, by the time I am a grandmother I’ll have this down and make it look easy!

These pie looks very tasty and easy to prepare. I should print out the recipe and ask my mom to baked it for weekends family time.
