U Comment, I Follow — Join the Movement.

Published by on

Encourage comments on your blog!

Do you have your own blog or website? If so, it’s pretty much a given that you want to increase your incoming links, right? Wouldn’t it be great, if the comments we left on other sites ‘counted’ with the search engines? THEY CAN!

Find out how to make the comments on your site ‘count’ below.

If you scroll about 1/2 way down my sidebar you’ll notice a graphic that looks like this:

u comment i follow

It means I have installed a wordpress plugin that will disable the ‘nofollow’ attribute in my comments. The ‘nofollow’ is an HTML attribute that can be attached to a hyperlink. Basically, it tells search engines not to ‘count’ (or follow) that link.

It was set up to keep comment spam to a minimum, but it doesn’t work. Spam is now controlled by other means, so why not share the **Link Love** and disable the ‘no follow’ attribute?

When you fill out my comment form with your name, website and url, the search engines will follow that link and you’ll get an ‘effective’ back link from mommyknows.com. **U Comment I Follow** – You too can help your readers and encourage commenting all at the same time!

Here’s how you can join the ‘i follow movement’:

WordPress: Install and activate this plugin: DoFollow
Blogger or Blogspot: use this guide
Typepad: use this guide
Moveable Type: use this guide

Want to know more? Check out these great posts, by bloggers who explain this way better than I do.

REMEMBER:

Mommyknows together with www.pippalily.com and www.thebabymarketplace.com is giving away TWO Pippalily baby slings (Value $75 each).

In addition, if I receive more than 100 ‘unique’ comments on any post between January 19th, 2007 and January 31st, 2008 (@ 9:59 pm MT) I will give away a FREE pair of Bical Grippers to one lucky commenter on that post (random draw) – Value $26 each! That’s 13 pairs of shoes!

@ glittersmama – when you put a link in a post on your blog, the search engines and technorati count that link and use it to assign page rank etc. All the things that make your site more popular.

BUT, they don’t ‘count’ the links in comments, due to a small little piece of ‘nofollow’ code.

If you deactivate that code, you will give your commenters comments a back link.

You use blogger so you need to go here: http://betabloggerfordummies.blogspot.com/2007/03/remove-nofollow-attribute-on-comments.html

I’m so new to blogging that I’m totally lost… lol. I’ll have another look later today when I have some “ME” time. Right now we’re (I mean I’m) just trying to dig out from the disaster zone my house has become. We had no power this morning and we rushing around trying to get out the door to swimming and somehow it looks like a tornado traveled through the house.

Sheena · January 27, 2008 at 7:35 pm

Try the Lucia’s Link Love plugin. It gives you better control over who you want to remove nofollow tags. You can select how many times they have to comment for the tag to be removed. This movement is a nice idea however you may start to get “real person” spam. I had joined a while back and I’m still getting nonsense comments from people who use the i follow list to advertise. Be careful!

Its odd how many people are blogging and do not know about these plugins or the dofollow movement. The dofollow movement is a great one and when you incorporate some of the other plugins like CommentLuv, and the newest one being KeywordLuv (really awesome) you can do wonders with your blog. Tons of comments and interaction. Just have to make sure that you have a great program to take care of all the spam you will get. Nice Post!

Hi there

The problem with “no_follow” is that you are expecting your visitors to take the time to comment without offering very much in return.

People worry about getting lots of spam or comments from people promoting their websites, but as long as the comment left adds something to the debate it doesn’t really matter why someone left it. On the subject of spam, it didn’t seem to make much difference when I put “do_follow” on my blog, and the spam filter catches it all anyway.

Good to see another “do follow” blog.

Perhaps WordPress will just reactivate dofollow in a future release and then we don’t need to go to the effort. nofollow clearly hasn’t worked in reducing spam, and a blog owner always has the ability to remove links they don’t like anyway…

Creating back links from commenting is a great tool. The best way to find these are to go an use googles operator for example: In the google search box enter the following: intext:”powered by wordpress” AND “KeywordLuv” OR “CommentLuv” this will pull out all blogs that provide the plugin and to filter out non blogs we incorporate the “powered by wordpress”

coupons · October 19, 2011 at 7:15 am

The grocery coupons have the advantage of being usable with most retailers and not with only one brand or store. As the other types of coupons, grocery coupons are intended for people who are willing to save money when purchasing groceries but also to direct people towards buying a new type of product which normally will not have as many buyers as with the grocery coupons.

I’ve been browsing online more than three hours nowadays, but I never discovered any fascinating article like yours. It’s lovely
worth enough for me. In my view, if all web owners and bloggers made excellent content as you did, the internet will likely be much more
helpful than ever before.

Hi Kim,

By far, this is the most comprehensive post I have read about “U comment I follow”. I did not understand it at first, because many bloggers won’t even consider giving do follow backlinks to their commenters, but at least this post clarifies what this can do for the bloggers themselves and their readers.

Friestya · June 17, 2016 at 10:29 am
