Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow

Posted on 07 December 2009 by MommyKnows

Winter’s here. My kids are loving it. They spent most of the weekend outside building a snow-fort and tobogganing.

lizzy
This kid loves winter, snow, skiing, tobogganing. Today it was -30c and she came home from school annoyed that their outdoor broom-ball game was canceled.

georgia
This kid comes in a close second. I love this photo of her coming out of the snow-fort on Saturday afternoon. She was out for hours and hours. I love the flakes on her lashes.

I am so thankful that Georgia has decided putting on mittens isn’t the END of life as she knows it.

err ... a lonely trike
I don’t like it when winter sneaks up on us before the summer toys get put away. That wasn’t the case this year, just a week ago we were basking in 15c (+55f). This year the toys were put away and then due to a fabulous fall, they all came back out. You can’t win :)

I won’t tell you how much I dislike it when people complain about the weather. I won’t …

cold but sunny

There are certainly things I don’t LOVE about winter. Then again, there are things that I do love. Like this bright blue Alberta winter sky. It might have been -30 today, but it was -30 and sunny! It’s fabulous!

Tell me something you LIKE about winter :)

Oh No You Can’t — I’ve Got Weirder Kids than You!

Posted on 03 May 2009 by MommyKnows

3:00 p.m.

Sam: Mom do you think I could wear this mask ALL day?

I betcha

Me: NO

Sam: I betcha I can.

Me: If you wear it until 8 p.m., I’ll let you stay up until 10 p.m.

Sam: COOL!

Lizzy: What can I do?

Me: You have to strip naked and stay that way until 8 p.m.

Lizzy: OK

Me: HA HA HA … NO DON’T, it’s just too weird.

Lizzy: No fair!

See, they are weirder than your kids!

3:36 p.m.

The mask comes off! They’re going to bed @ 8:45 like always! WOOT!

Hidden Love Notes

Posted on 02 May 2009 by MommyKnows

Today, like all other days I plopped myself down on the loo, and realized that there was NO toilet paper on the roll. As I stretched and contorted to reach into the vanity …

a love note
I saw this note, written in sharpie on the side of a normally closed and rarely used drawer.

Apparently, it was written by my girl many years ago. I’m glad I found it today. I needed it.

It’s not quite as funny, but so much nicer than the one my boy wrote me a while back.

What made you smile today?

Are Green Toys Going to the Dogs? (You’ve been tagged)

Posted on 15 December 2008 by MommyKnows

Are Green Toys going to the dogs? Only in Georgia’s world! Being a small dog lover means this toddler chickie parties with the dogs. Tea parties that is!

georgia loves
Georgia loves her Green Toys! Why wouldn’t she? They’re darn near perfect –> the perfect size, great colors and FUN! She uses them for real food too.

I love Green Toys, because they truly are GREEN. Green Toys are made in the USA (CA to be precise) from recycled milk jugs (yes, the very jugs you rinse out and recycle). On average, every pound of recycled milk jugs used in the making of Green Toys saves enough energy to power the average TV set for 3 weeks! The fact that they are made in the USA means LESS transportation … no fossil fuels wasted getting them across the pacific!

to stir or not to stir ...
Georgia’s stirring up a little water soup for her puppy fans.

I am really trying to cut down on STUFF (you know … useless, I can live without it … only lasts an hour kind of STUFF)! I missed the boat with the older kids, but with Georgia there is still a small glimmer of hope that I can keep the junky toys to a minimum and fill her toy box (hopefully just 1/2 full and not overflowing) with toys that are good for her imagination and the earth too!

Speaking of the earth, WHAT IN THE HELL IS WITH ALL OF THE PACKAGING? Plastic, metal ties, more plastic, cellopane, tape, cardboard, more metal ties. Is this some kind of Chinese attempt to torture us? (I’m watching you China!) Remember back in the good ‘ole days, when all you needed to have on hand Christmas morning was some extra batteries? Now you can add to that list, wire cutters, box cutter and the patience of a saint. Unless your kiddies are opening Green Toys that is, then even your three year old can just open the recycled cardboard packaging all by themselves and get right down to play. Honest … you just open the box. What a concept!

Attention ALL toy manufactures: WE DON’T LIKE PACKAGING! From this day forward I will take note to the amount of packaging you wrap around toys, and if it’s more than absolutely necessary it’ll stay at the store on the shelf, never to be purchased by ME! NEVER – EVER!

TAG –> If you are reading this, you have been tagged! Blog and let toy manufacturers know we’re tired and annoyed at all the redundant packaging. We insist they be more responsible! Please :)

breaking out in song
Georgia breaks out into song. A happy kid, is truly the sign of a great toy.

GREEN TOYS = GREAT TOYS

Green Toy sent us the Cookware & Dining Set, I have already purchased the Tea Set for Santa to leave under the tree. I’m adding the Indoor Gardening Kit to our wish list.
