Home Sweet Home

Posted on 18 November 2008 by MommyKnows

We finally made it home, about 2 a.m. I missed the hotel breakfast this morning! One of my favorite things about holidays is, no cooking. I just can’t get excited about food prep (not that I try).

I had to take my ‘bad’ drug last night. I am taking two types, one by injection daily with minimal side effects and a second weekly by injection (last night was the night) and it takes it’s toll. I had a terrible night and lazy, sleepy day. Chills, aches and flu like symptoms all day.

If I weren’t doing the Nablopomo thing, today would be the day I’d skip posting. I know you didn’t come over here to hear me whine though. Right?

I’ve been going downloading and sorting the holiday pics.

Getting a Libby Du
This is one of my favorites (so far)—> it is Lizzy being getting her ‘Libby Du’ at the LibbyLu shop in Downtown Disney. There are loads more to go through.

I am not sure if I like the Libby Lu idea or not. Then again, it might just be because I would have rather poked myself in the eye with a sharp stick, than had a ‘Princess Makeover’ at the same age. BLECH! I did love how much she enjoyed herself though. You could tell that she felt beautiful all day.

You Spin Me Right Round Baby (coffee contest continues)

Posted on 10 November 2008 by MommyKnows

Winner is: Penelope —> email me @ kim (@) mommyknows (dot) com.

I was a wee bit worried I wouldn’t make the NaBloPoMo deadline tonight. After coming back to the hotel for supper and a quick swim, the plan was to head back to Disney for the parade and fireworks. NOPE, Georgia fell asleep on the shuttle over there, so Mr. MK has gone on with the older kids and Georgia and I just rode the shuttle home again. I am absolutely exhausted, and so, a tad relieved.

It was a hugely busy day at Disney with crazy lineups. Only the pink teacup received a generous two thumbs up from the finicky Georgia. Who is refusing all rides if they have a tunnel. Don’t worry we’re not missing out. We just lie to her.

Taken on my iphone.

This was the last ride of the day. The photo is kind of crazy, busy and blurry … and that’s how it looked and felt in real life. Mmmm, I love the colors.

It has me humming: You spin me right round baby, right round, like a record baby, right round, round, round …

I did have my ‘good’ camera with me. All 3 million pounds of it, along with the 1.5 million pound DEAD battery. Gotta love my iPhone.

I’ll be doing my NaBloPoMo thingy all during the holiday. I’ll also be twittering the road trip away—> follow me on twitter @ http://twitter.com/mommyknows.

All comments and back-links for this post will be entered to win a $10 Starbucks Gift Card (includes shipping and handling) in my ‘Have a Coffee on Me’ Contest. If you comment and blog about the contest you’ll receive two entries (too easy). I have a whole ‘schwack’ of Gift Cards to give away, so make sure and come back often for a chance to ‘have a coffee on me’.

Every Holiday Needs … (coffee contest continues & a book)

Posted on 08 November 2008 by MommyKnows

Winner is: Eileen —> email me @ kim (@) mommyknows (dot) com.

As most of you guessed, we’re on the way Disneyland. After some troubles we’re a few hours behind schedule. We hope to make SLC by 9 pm.

Every holiday needs ... a good book! I have several along with me. Today, I enjoyed reading, riding and taking in the scenery.

A while back, I was lucky enough to win an advanced readers edition of Sarah’s Key by Tatiana de Rosnay from Jaime’s Blog.

Sarah's Key

Book Blurb: Paris, July 1942: Sarah, a ten year-old girl, is brutally arrested with her family by the French police in the Vel’ d’Hiv’ roundup, but not before she locks her younger brother in a cupboard in the family’s apartment, thinking that she will be back within a few hours.
Paris, May 2002: On Vel’ d’Hiv’s 60th anniversary, journalist Julia Jarmond is asked to write an article about this black day in France’s past. Through her contemporary investigation, she stumbles onto a trail of long-hidden family secrets that connect her to Sarah. Julia finds herself compelled to retrace the girl’s ordeal, from that terrible term in the Vel d’Hiv’, to the camps, and beyond. As she probes into Sarah’s past, she begins to question her own place in France, and to reevaluate her marriage and her life.

I love a good story and Sarah’s Key is definitely that, but what makes it great, is that it blends a good plot with historical fact. Sarah’s Key is my favorite kind of book; it both entertained and moved me, while educating me about the Vel’ d’Hiv roundup of 1942.

I consider myself, well educated and well read; yet I had never even heard of the Vel’ d’Hiv’ roundup. Sarah’s Key had me weeping. I still want to cry. It wasn’t just me either (even though I am kind of a softie), Mr. MK cried too.

Whoever, wins this posts ‘coffee card’ will also win my ‘used’ copy of Sarah’s Key. I want to make sure lots of people read this book—> You’ll promise to pass it along once you’ve read it right?

I’ll be doing my NaBloPoMo thingy all during the holiday. I’ll also be twittering the road trip away—> follow me on twitter @ http://twitter.com/mommyknows.
