Winner is: Carey – please email me: kim (@) mommyknows (dot) com
If I weren’t already so tired (and bored) of writing about my recent vacation, I’d tell you that besides the fantastic scenery, one of the things that made the LONG (long long long) drive bearable was the tunes –> specifically The Submarines.

Photographer: ORRiN ANDERSON
You may not recognize the name, but any of you that watch TV (all of you right?), have heard the current Apple iPhone 3G ads featuring The Submarines track ‘You Me and the Bourgeosie’ from their recently released album ‘Honeysuckle Weeks’.
Their first music video just debuted … have a look & listen
I’m no music critic, but I know a catchy tune when I hear it. The Submarines have several catchy tunes. You really need to go and pick up the album. My favourite is ‘Swimming Pool’.
The Submarines are Blake Hazard and John Dragonetti (aka John Drag). What make the submarines special to me (besides the fantastic music) is, John is an old friend from Dubai.
John has always loved and made music. I remember him being in a band called ‘Space’ in the 7th grade. They made their own ‘cassette’ complete with a home-made lightening bolt cover featuring Matt Johnson (I think?) as the lead singer, my favourite song on that album was Lynrd Skynrd’s ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ (still one of my all time favourites). Somewhere in the dozens of boxes of stuff I just can’t get rid of is that ‘Space’ cassette. I knew you’d be famous John!
One lucky commenter is going to WIN a ‘HoneySuckle Weeks’ album curtousy of MommyKnows. The winner will be randomly chosen by me soon, so leave a comment.

Awesome! I’d love to win something that really doesn’t have anything to do with the kids, for once, too…
And I want to hear more about Dubai.

how fun that you have that connection! I am typically sucked into (in a mild way, i’m not THAT into music) any band featured in apple commercials. Sometimes it makes me feel like a lemming, but i guess…you like what you like, right? I def. enjoy the submarines anyway. ;)

That is a pretty peppy tune! And I second the request for Dubai information – that is on my list of amazing, slightly crazy, places I want to visit.

That is cool that you used to know him. It’s such a great feeling to see someone achieve their dreams! I can’t watch the video either due to painfully slow dial-up, but I remember the tune from the commercial…I’d love to hear the rest of the album!

Hey, was John at DC or ASD?
I just cannot recall him. Did he live at CBV (like the rest of us…lol)?

@ Joanne – John went to JAS (ASD). His dad was the headmaster there in the early days (70’s), then at Dugas (80’s). His parents are still in Dubai. They lived in Jumeira (near the American school), BUT in the 1990’s his parents moved to CBV and I think they lived over by the apartments (across from the Popich’s (I think).
Here is an interview on ABCNEWs: http://abcnews.go.com/video/playerIndex?id=5604040 – you might recognize him.
