Early this spring, I developed lymphadenopathy to go along with my MS. One of the rare side-effects of one of my drugs, is disease of the lymphnodes, and once all the other culprits were ruled out (I was convinced I had cancer), my neurologist decided I needed a break from my medications.
YIPPEE!
The best part about being off of the medication was the fact that I started to forget that I had MS. With no drug side effects, I felt perfectly healthy. With no daily (and 2x on Sunday) injections, days could go by without me even thinking about MS. It was good.
The break is over now and I’m back taking the drugs. I feel OK, but, I am dragging my feet, but just a wee bit. I don’t quite feel right. Maybe it’s my imagination, maybe it’s not.
As far as MS goes, most of the fear is gone (for now). Occasionally, I worry about what my future may hold. Mr. MK, gets to make me feel better.
Me: Do you think, I’ll be crippled?
I know I should have said, handicapped or something more PC, but I didn’t.
Mr. MK: No.
Me: Don’t you ever worry about it?
Mr. MK: I used to, I don’t anymore.
Me: So you think I am going to be fine?
Mr. MK: Yes.
My Mr. MK, he’s just hard to shut up, as you can tell he talks a mile a minute!
Me: If I’m not, you’re not going to run off with some young thing, and leave me and the kids high-and-dry with nothing but wheelchair ramps are you?
Mr. MK: BWAHAHAHAHAHA … I love you! You’re such a DORK!
I am pretty sure that means he’s sticking around. Reason number 23,456,789 I glad I am married to him!
MK xo

Girl — you are SO lovable — and that is why you are loved — and why nobody is going anywhere no matter what happens in your life. And unlike the previous commenters, I am telling you that your man knew he won the lottery when HE ’snagged’ YOU!
Hope you are felling better. And despite the fact that needles are yucky … you took an awesome pic of them. They actually look “cool”.
Love,

I’m glad you’re keeping your humor about this. MS is rough and the better your attitude, the better your run will be. My dad has been a lifesaver for my mom as she has struggled with it. Such blessings in trials.

Yes, I hate taking drugs for things too. The side effects are unbelievable, I sometimes wonder if they’re worse than the actual ailment. I remember that stuff I was taking for my asthma, and all of a sudden I had no taste buds. I think it took about 3 months after I stopped for them to come back.
At least you got a break from them. Maybe your doctor knows of some other drugs that have different (but better) side effects.
I’m happy to hear you don’t have cancer. And now you can stop worrying about that :)

@jafer – sadly enough, there are only 4 drugs ok’d for MS treatment in Canada. I am taking two of the four, of the two left, one is the same as one I am taking currently in a different dosage (same side effects), and the 4th is not covered unless you are in very dire straits. It pretty much this or nothing, nothing sounds better to me, but I am afraid of nothing.

Why is it, their response to every emotional question includes the phrase “You’re such a dork”? My husband too makes that reference, wait…maybe it’s because in my case I ask hugely unjustified insecure questions, “If my hair turns grey, my butt sags and my boobs look more like breakfast pancakes than boobs will you still love me?” or the classic, “What are you thinking? How ’bout now? Seriously, what-are-you-thinking?!” He always laughs, throws in his own reassurences and then calls me a dork. Sounds like our guys are cut from the same, sweet, often sweaty cloth (we’re lucky girls!)
Hope you’re feeling well and know that prayers and positive thoughts are being sent your way.

I love Mr MK!! What a great guy. You really are blessed to have him. And although you’d hope any good husband would say that to his wife, sadly I’m sure a lot of them wouldn’t. So you’ve got a keeper there!
It must be so frustrating to feel so well & healthy when you’re on a drug holiday! That’s so wrong … but of course we know the medication is needed to slow the progression and prevent relapse, yada yada yada … I can’t even imagine how good it must have felt for you to have a break from it though, even just for a while.

Hello MK, what MS medication are you using? my wife had two MS “attacks” (she couldn’t move one limb) and she’s taking a drug called Betaferon. 5 years of injections haven’t leaved any side effect right now. I think it is still very new, but i think you may ask your doctor.
