We had a beautiful spring day today and I was reminded why I love spring/summer and why I don’t!

Pro: It’s great fun to spend time outside with the kids! It also makes walking the kids to school so much easier.

Georgia in BLU 3

This is Georgia picking me dandelions earlier today. She thinks they are beautiful. We have a terrible dandelion problem, because I refuse to let Mr. Mommyknows use chemicals on the lawn. Georgia is wearing a great dress from BLU available of course from www.thebabymarketplace.com. This is one of my favorite baby clothing lines, mostly because of the gorgeous details.

I love those shoes!! What I love about summer would have to be swimming. I could stay in the pool all day long. What I do not love about the summer is the heat plus humidity factor. ICK.

Amy · May 15, 2007 at 11:51 pm

I love summer as I don’t have to get up early to make lunches/breakfast/supervise dressing and doing the VERY thick hair of my two daughters.

I love summer as it means long days involving lots of gardening time.

I love summer as the sun shines, the rain ignores us blessedly (very rare for these parts).

I love summer as my kids play outside and get lots of exercise while having fun with their friends.

I love summer as it is not raining and if I get my buns in gear early enough I can walk my two little mutties (dogs, sorry) before it gets too hot. No worries of having to bathe them after trudging in the rain/mud.

I love summer as it is so relatively care free. No schools to rush to, no clubs to get to. Just fun.

Amy · May 15, 2007 at 11:53 pm

BTW we too had a weed infested lawn when we moved in here 7 years ago. Digging them out with either a knife or a ‘stand up weeder’ worked for us. No chemicals for the kids and dogs to ingest and slowly but surely those suckers are gone!

Richard · May 15, 2007 at 11:59 pm

Those shoes are so sweet :)

Mary-Jo · May 16, 2007 at 12:29 am

Summer, what isn’t there to love about summer? Lots of sun, beach, picnics, socializing etc… To top it all off my husband is a teacher and he’s off all summer to help with our two kids. I live for summers!

karaninla · May 16, 2007 at 1:01 am

Those shoes r lovely almost like the summer, i love summer time, relax, sun, pool, grandma in home helping me withthe boys, my older boy in home trying to drive me crazy, but still i think summer time for enjoy with family, the only thing that i dont like about the summer is the mosquitos omg!!!!!!!! they are everywhere!!!!!! help help!!, but a little insecticide… and…. im happy again jajaja

jenB · May 16, 2007 at 1:19 am

I also love BLU, as you know. I love summer too, but you know why, you live my weather too. I love the baby shoes! But I no longer have a baby, so no need to enter me into the pool. HA! Charlotte also loves dandelions. We don’t use chemicals either, we dig dig dig, and use organic fertilizer and I overseed the grass every year. The good grass chokes out the weeeeeds.

xo

Kait · May 16, 2007 at 6:17 am

These are the sweetest little shoes! I would love a pair for my daughter on the way.

The thing I love about summer is that it finally gets about 70 degrees (I live in NW PA and it is ALWAYS cold!).

leslie · May 16, 2007 at 6:35 am

summer=cottage…we can hardly wait to get there!

Carrie · May 16, 2007 at 7:31 am

I love summer because it’s not 40 below outside and I’m not locked in a house with 2 kids under the age of 3.

lolly · May 16, 2007 at 8:06 am

Oh, summer, how I love thee. Just warm weather in general really, because it means we aren’t cooped up in the house all day, or freezing our tushies off going in and out of our car which takes 10 minutes to warm up, and by then, we’re usually already at out destination. Summertime? We can just walk!

Christine L. · May 16, 2007 at 8:19 am

Summer – bring it on!!! The winters here are too long and too cold. We’ve got to enjoy the fun summer clothes for only a few months!!

Naomi · May 16, 2007 at 8:38 am

I love summer because it’s nice to float in a pool all day and be lazy.

I loathe summer because it will be too hot to float in the pool by August…

Cherylyn · May 16, 2007 at 8:55 am

Those shoes are really cute! My thoughts on summer are exactly the same as Carrie #7. About the walking and the fact that people don’t, you live in Alberta (at least your stuff gets mailed from here) where we all seem to have a love affair with our cars. We used to live in a SMALL town in Northern Aberta and even on very nice days many people drove their kids. No one lives more than 2.5 K most only live 1 k or less from the school. My fave was a mom who drove her kid less than half a block, I later found out she didn’t like walking and drove him every day! If I get the shoes, you can bet we will be doing a lot of wakling in them!!!

Angella · May 16, 2007 at 9:28 am

That dress is AWESOME! I may have to buy it for Emily! The shoes are fantastic too :)

I love summer because…IT’S NOT WINTER. That, and we spend every day at the beach. :)

Katie · May 16, 2007 at 10:05 am

I love summer because I look way better in skirts and flowy shirts than I do in pants and sweaters. How is that for vain? hehe.

I don’t like that I get really freckly.

monkeysmom · May 16, 2007 at 10:54 am

The only to not love about summer is the BUGS! I love the smell after it rains on a hot day. The smell of flowers as you go for a walk. The smell of fresh cut lawns. The sound of kids playing in the distant. The sound of the neighbours mowing their lawns. BBQ’s with friends and family. There is so much about summer to love. Where do you stop?

Jamie · May 16, 2007 at 10:56 am

Your daughter is beautiful!! She looks like she could be in a vintage Gerber ad. I love the baby shoes. I linked to this post on my Google reader sidebar thingy. The giveaways are awesome.

Any way, I found your blog via your friend’s link on Dooce.

I love summer because my girls smell like sunscreen and sunshine at the end of the day. :)

Susy-Q · May 16, 2007 at 11:19 am

Since I have a shoe fetish I am really happy to see that you are giving some away! For two days too!! WHOOHOO!

I love summer because I don’t have to spend half an hour getting my son ready to go outdoors…sweater, winter suit, mitts, and toque. I love going to the park and for long walks and I LOVE the smell of lilacs and flowers.

I guess the only thing I dislike about summer is the smog and pollution we get from cars in the city. The smoldering heat and humidity added to car exhaust is nasty. I wish our lives didn’t revolve around cars so much.

Corey · May 16, 2007 at 11:42 am

I love love love summer, because with my job I get summers OFF! I get to play with my baby girl allllllll day everyday! woo hoo!
I am a huge fan of soft sole shoes. :)

Aimee · May 16, 2007 at 11:55 am

I want those shoes!

We love summer because we love watching everything grow, going swimming, and just being outside.

I’m not so crazy about the extreme heat, though, and love those cool days.\

Filtering Life · May 16, 2007 at 12:20 pm

Oh shoes, glorious shoes. Sign me up!!! I love those. My daughter already has a massive shoe collection, but seriously, can a girl have too many?

I love summer for the evenings when the sun is down and the breeze is blowing and you can sit comfortably outside (baring any mosquitoes!) I love BBQ’s, swimming, tans, and the cute clothes my daughter can wear to show off her incredible rolls.

Montserrat · May 16, 2007 at 1:20 pm

Love the shoes!

Summer means rolling down the grassy hill with my kids, going on picnics, the sweet smell of freshly swathed hay, and home-grown veggies fresh from the garden!

Overwhelmed With Joy! · May 16, 2007 at 1:35 pm

I would love to win a pair of those shoes! :)

What I love most about summer is playing in our pool and trips to the ocean! Oh, and outdoor pops concerts are great too!

Carol · May 16, 2007 at 2:32 pm

I would love to give my granddaughter some of those shoes

I love the green leaves on the trees. After 6 months of no leaves I am happy just looking at the leaves.

Lacey · May 16, 2007 at 2:33 pm

I have always wanted a pair of soft soled shoes for the girls.

My favorite thing about summer is hanging out by the kiddie pool while the girls splash about.

michelle · May 16, 2007 at 4:08 pm

I love those shoes. My baby has worn a hole in his last pair.
I love summer because my kids are all home and I can spend time playing with them. I love summer because we get to spend a week in the mountains. The thing I love the most about summer is staying up late, playing in the backyard and watching for the fireflies.

I don’t like the humidity or getting sunburned.

Amanda · May 16, 2007 at 5:17 pm

I love the shoes – so cute!

Summer is great because school is out which means I get to become a temporary SAHM to my girls. I love having all day with them for adventures: swimming, playing at the park, going for walks, visiting family & friends, the library, etc.

I could do without the Illinois humidity and mosquitos though!

Janice · May 16, 2007 at 5:49 pm

I am a slave to your May Madness!

There’s just something about summer. That feeling of no school for a couple months. Even though my responsibilities do not go away anymore, summer just feels easier. And I love all the extra light.

Jennifer · May 16, 2007 at 7:15 pm

What great shoes! The baby I’m expecting will definitely need a pair just like them. At my house, we love summer for the great fruit at the farmer’s market, the days that seem to last forever, and the extra play time that comes with school being out. I will admit that the days can occasionally get too long, but that is a consequence I can live with.

Stephanie · May 16, 2007 at 7:57 pm

The best thing about summer is NO SCHOOL!!!! No worrying about clean clothes (we live in swim suits) or making lunches, or home work. We eat, drink, and swim in the sun all summer long! Can’t wait!

Jen the Mom · May 16, 2007 at 8:47 pm

My favorite thing about this summer is that I bought a house. I’m probably really annoying because I can’t stop talking about it but you asked. So there!

sneekerchik · May 16, 2007 at 9:27 pm

Those shoes are too cute! My 20 month old daughter has such a shoe fetish, anything she can put on her feet including daddy’s stinky work boots. I love summer because it is so warm and sunny. I NEED the sun, oh how I need the sun. My daughter always wants to “wah owside” (walk outside) and I can’t stand the cold so we are finally getting to go for walks now that it is warming up. Sun and flowers and no spring showers, that is what everyday should be like.

Nicole · May 16, 2007 at 9:31 pm

holy god those shoes are great. as is summer.

i love the kids playing happily outside while i lounge in the shade with a book/laptop. i love meals like our dinner tonight: hot dogs (veggie for me!), corn on the cob, watermelon, and homemade ice cream. i love dipping my feet in the kids’ pool after they’ve gone to bed, drinking something cold and unwinding after a sweaty day of fun.

i kind of hate the sand, and the construction filth, and the way too much sun makes me puffy and rashy and itchy–but i’ll take that over the god-awful, never-ending, inhuman winter. (i live in the same city as you and the lovely jenb–i feel your winter pain.)

yay summer!

Melanie · May 16, 2007 at 11:10 pm

gardening
big floppy hats
dresses
the smell of sunscreen

Yan · May 17, 2007 at 1:21 am

I love the color of summer and the time we get to spend outdoors !
I really hate Mosquito in the summer.

Andréane · May 17, 2007 at 7:18 am

J’adore l’été!!
Enfin un peu de chaleur pour aller à la plage!

J’attends une petite fille pour les prochains jours, elle serait superbe avec des shooshoos dans ses mini pieds!

Nenni · May 17, 2007 at 7:22 am

These shoes look great!

Summer with kids is wonderful! No need to put the big winter coats on… That takes at least 20 min with two kids… In the summer, we just catch an hat we are ready (about 20 sec!).

Cathy · May 17, 2007 at 7:45 am

I love summer because it means green and no more sub-zero days! Summertime is delicious outside time!

Jennifer Bogart · May 17, 2007 at 8:13 am

I love soft shoes! We have leather shoed our girls up until age 2 for our first, and exclusively with our second (since she’s still only one!) They are the BEST for beginning walkers!

MonaB · May 17, 2007 at 8:45 am

I love summers because it is the time to get out of the winter blues and enjoy the sun. Living in Canada, we have 9 months of winter, so summers are cherished outdoors! This summer will be especially wonderful as I have a brand new baby girl to love and enjoy!

kelsM · May 17, 2007 at 8:47 am

I love summer because its a time of renewal, a time of growth, of warmth. We spend our time lazing around in the sun, with family, friends, everyone who makes us happy. The beautiful days are longer, and the nights are wonderful and full of stars. Summer is the best time of the year. I love it because it means I have the time to do these things. I can go visit my family, and spend hours just talking out on the patio. (which is almsot impossible to do in the winter.:P) I love summer because i can walk in the woods, see the beauty, the flowers the trees..Its just wonderful. I love summer because I can walk with my nephew, see the excitement on his face as he sees a new world. And what a great time to share with a child.

bwong · May 17, 2007 at 9:01 am

What I love about summer is spending time with my family and having a bbq. I love watching my son running around the yard and playing in his wading pool. I’m also a first time Auntie this year and can’t wait to spoil my little neice with lots of summer clothes & toys!

Laura · May 17, 2007 at 9:04 am

I am loving *this* summer, especially, since my twins are 16 months old and finally able to run around in our backyard and play with their 3 year old older brother after being cooped up indoors for most of their lives! They all love being out and my daughter will bring me her sandals when she wants me to let her out… and says ‘shoos’. :D

But the con of course, is the tracked in sand from the sandbox and the sometimes twice-daily baths they need when they completely abandon the sandbox and play right in the dirt. Could really do without the extra laundry too. :-P

Mireille · May 17, 2007 at 9:05 am

Summertime… and the living is easy…

Summer makes everything a breeze…just like wearing those great shoes…

THANKS ;-)

Julie · May 17, 2007 at 9:09 am

I love summer because it means spending time outside gardening. I love going to the garden centre every year at this time.

AmyP · May 17, 2007 at 9:10 am

Love summer and going barefoot — though would love the shooshoos on cute baby feet. :)

Andrée-Anne · May 17, 2007 at 9:23 am

New house, lots of work to do outside, and my son LOVES IT! He helped me with the garden and will be able to pick sweet peas or green and yellow beans sometime this summer (very small garden). Lovely activity to do with kids, even as young as 13 months (which was the age of my son when we started the seedings inside a month ago). He mixed the water in the soil, and pushed the seeds in (ate a couple too :) and we had lots of fun. Cleaning up the mess was not even that bad :P

If I win the shoes, I promise I will try to keep my son away from the wet dirt when we water the garden!!!

Christine · May 17, 2007 at 10:26 am

What an awesome idea! Wish I’d known about this sooner… babylegs, glasses, diapers….
What I love about summer is camping! Trees, ocean, etc! And DH is home (a teacher). He works from home then, but he has some time for the park or diaper duty!

ann · May 17, 2007 at 10:41 am

What a beautiful little girl!
Summer, what I love about it? That’s easy NO MORE SNOW. Throwing the windows wide open to let the fresh smelling breeze blow through the house, especially nice if the lawn has been newly mowed.

jhlefty · May 17, 2007 at 10:55 am

What I love about summer is bare feet in grass and getting to wear shorts and tank tops. Swimming in the ocean and then getting warm again lying in the warm sand. Lots of barbeques and camping.

lexy1 · May 17, 2007 at 11:17 am

I love watching my daughter eat a popsicle for the first time, or play in the sand box and get filthy from head to toe, or see a bee in a flower and actually understand what it is she’s seeing. Those moments make all the sticky, humid, hot days of summer so worth it.

Chris · May 17, 2007 at 12:43 pm

I love hiking with my daughter and watching her really experience the beauty. She really likes smelling flowers and seinging on vines!! I also love working in my garden and going berry picking at the local farm!!

Jennifer Walker · May 17, 2007 at 1:32 pm

Two of my cousins are expecting babies within a couple months and I need to give great baby gifts!

Ryan's Mom · May 17, 2007 at 2:23 pm

Kim,

ShooShoos are my favourite kind of baby shoes. Best designs and go with everything!

I love Blu too, but my favourite boys clothing is MishMish! I hope that it will be included in a giveaway.

I love long summer days. No agenda, just get up and enjoy the simple things such as splashing in the water, going to the park etc.

Jenny T · May 17, 2007 at 2:24 pm

We already have the baby pool filled up and since my son walked in yeaterday with his shoes and socks on, we could probably use some new shooshoos!!

Daisymom · May 17, 2007 at 2:25 pm

Such pretty shoes!!! What I love most about the summer is swimming and playing in the water!! I can’t wait to go to the beach with my daughter – it will be so much fun getting to see her take everything in.

Katie · May 17, 2007 at 2:50 pm

Cute shoes! The most wonderful thing about summer is the way my kids and I can fill up a whole day with absolutely nothing. Sort of reminds me of that Mary Oliver poem…

Who made the world?
Who made the swan, and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean–
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down–
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.
Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I don’t know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?

Pam · May 17, 2007 at 4:31 pm

I love the green and the bright colors that summer provides.
The warm sun that gives me a tan so I don’t look as white as Frosty the Snowman.
I love being able to rollerblade down the river valley on a warm day.
I love to take kids to the splash park and watch them run around and play in the water (while I sit and watch in the shade).
I love a nice cool drink on a hot day.
There is so much to love about summer. Hot hot days of no cold and when it’s too hot for even the mosquitos are the best.
p.s. my daughter would love some new shoes. She adores pulling shoes off her feet to use them as teething toys, plus she’s growing out of her current shoes.

linda · May 17, 2007 at 9:23 pm

I love summer because I love to fish and I want to teach my grandkids all about the joys of sitting out on the lake. The peace…the quiet..the creation…the sky and best of all…catching a fish!!!
Oh please let us win these shooshoos for our lovely grandkids!

dada · May 17, 2007 at 9:30 pm

We love summer especially with our new half dome tent. The kids can nap in the shade. My daughter has a pair of Shoo shoos in sandals, I think, but I am sure she’d love another pair.

applesonastick · May 17, 2007 at 9:49 pm

hmm, I don’t love summer. I live in Arizona, in late May (about now) we start going into hibernation, quickly jumping from one air conditioned place to another.

Although…we did have fun swimming in the pool today!

I LOVE the soft leather shoes, they are GREAT for babies!

abi · May 17, 2007 at 9:50 pm

I love summer for the greenness, the aliveness of things. I love being able to take the kids outside to play and run and get grass-stained and sweaty. I love getting out the wading pool and the sprinkler and having them track grass clippings into the house, no matter how hard I try to clean them off before we go inside.

I hate bees, though. They scare me. Bzz.

We so have a 3 day backbacking trip planned in July (20km in and 20km out with 40lbs on my back) and a camping trip in August (tent trailer with 4 kids). I’d kind of like a holiday that doesn’t involve quite so much work. […]
