Hello McFly!?

Posted on 29 July 2008 by MommyKnows

Winner is – Auntie Gayle (yeah … I’ll bring your prize over).

Yikes this title dates me! ‘Back to the Future’ came out in the early 80’s and I’m still saying, “HELLO McFly!” I’m definitely going to have to stop that. BUT, hey I finally get to an internet cafe and I leave all my images (in camera) with Mr. MK who is on a long 10 km hike with Sam and Lizzy. Georgia’s feet are infected and sore, sore, sore. That leaves me @ home with the invalid. We couldn’t get to a dr today without ferry’s and a long drive, so I took pictures of her feet to a vet. HA … no one can acuse me of being over protective. Needless to say, problem solved.

We’re having a great time, beach combing, crabbing, hiking, eating, it’s a faboulous place. I had the best series of pictures to share. Next time, I guess.

Tomorrow we’re taking a zodiak boat excursion to some hot springs. They’re in the Gwaii Hanaas National Park (National Geographic named it the best park on earth!!). We were actually suposed to go yesterday, but a huge storm (20 foot waves), kept us on dry land. I am really hoping we see whales. We’ve delayed heading home an extra day to take this tour.

Will check in again soon.

Posted on 24 July 2008 by MommyKnows

**Winner is: Cindi – hey, Cindi please email me @ kim (@) mommyknows (dot) com and I’ll send you out a prize.**

We’ve had a great couple of days.

Hiking, beach combing, ferry riding and even a bit of shopping.

We’ve just had the MOST delicious home-made soup and bread lunch @ the Haida Rose Cafe in Old Masset, Queen Charlotte Islands.

Don't Let the Exterior Fool You ...
Don’t let the exterior fool you. The cinnamon buns alone are worth the 2000 km journey.

The whole family is waiting for me … we’re going crabbing! Hopefully, we catch our supper.

Will check in again soon.

MommyKnows is on the Road – Day 2

Posted on 22 July 2008 by MommyKnows

1 Bear (see photo below)
1 Bald Eagle (I’m too slow)

We arrived in Prince Rupert about 9 p.m., very anxious after 800km of driving to spend the night at the cool little inn that I booked. Unfortunately, the closest we got to our room was down the block. A natural gas leak meant that the road was closed off and the entire city block had been evacuated. That was about the time that Georgia peed her pants. I too wanted to pee my pants! Poor kids and poor parents who have to waste precious vacation time dismantling and laundering the carseat.

SO disappointed … but, what can you do? (Disappointed about the accommodations not the PEE).

We’re now squashed in a small room (with a harbour view) and I am praying our funky little inn is up and running tomorrow.

Prince Rupert is not the end point for our journey. Lace is the winner (of exactly what … I am not sure). We are on our way to the Queen Charlotte Islands. I can’t wait.

Well actually I can wait. Prince Rupert looks fantastic. The scenery is breath taking and it’s full of funky little shops, historic buildings. Tomorrow should be a fun day. NO CAR!

Here are some highlights from today’s trip.

MommyKnows is on the Road …

Posted on 21 July 2008 by MommyKnows

4 Moose
4 Bear
3 Deer

All spotted in the ditch by MK. The Nikon was in my suitcase, so I had to take photo’s with my little Fuji point and shoot. I didn’t take one decent photo. They’re all horrible, but here’s a nice BIG blurry moose for you anyway. I swear the Nikon will be in my lap all day tomorrow.

MommyKnows on the Road

We’re in a dumpy motel in Prince George, B.C. I suppose the best part is the fact that I am in Prince George and it has nothing to do with tree planting. I believe that’s a first.

Anybody want a take a guess at our final destination? There might be a prize …

Sixteen Great Prizes from T-Mobile Just for MommyKnows Readers

Posted on 14 July 2008 by MommyKnows

Remember when making a long distance phone call was a big deal? Well, it wasn’t really for me, but it was for my dad who used to have to pay our HUGE long distance phone bills. Yikes … I used to dread the day the phone bill showed up in the mail. You were never quite sure how bad the damage was going to be. Oh why, oh why did I have to keep talking after the first hour? Then the ‘do you think $$$ grows on trees?’ lecture would begin. HA … I wish!

How times have changed! T-Mobile has just launched a new home phone service –> Unlimited nationwide calling from their home phone for just $10/month. HOLY crap (or holy TRAP … as Georgia would say), my dad would have loved opening up that bill. It’s making me wish I was living in T-Mobile country (kind of).

I’ve pretty much gotten over the ‘yapping on the phone for hours syndrome’ of my teens and early 20’s. Now I pretty much avoid it. When the phone rings at home, I am usually hollering in the background, “I AM NOT HOME”. Which generally leaves the kids in charge of answering/screening my calls (sad but true). Many of my friends don’t allow their children to answer the phone … apparently it’s a safety issue (why am I always the last to know?).

It’s pretty obvious then that we don’t have any phone rules, well except be polite and don’t call your friends before 10 a.m. on weekends. What about you, any rules?

Answer above to be eligible to win 1 of 14 daily prizes and 2 weekly prizes. T-Mobile’s given me a bunch of gifts to give away right here for the next two weeks. Each day, I’ll be randomly selecting a reader who participates to win a daily or weekly gift. To enter, just submit an answer in the graphic/widget above. That’s it! Good luck!

Daily prizes: find a complete list the 14 daily smaller prizes by clicking on “view a gift” in the upper right hand corner of the widget

Weekly prizes: $100 T-Mobile gift card and a $100 Home Improvement gift card

NOTE: To be entered to win prizes you must answer the question in the widget above. Feel free to just comment as well.

Psst … in July T-Mobile is giving away two houses in a sweepstakes they’ve named “The Ultimate Home Giveaway.” The giveaway will also be promoted on ABC’s The View’s website. Yes, you read that correctly TWO HOMES … click HERE to find out more.
