MommyKnows … how to Cloth Diaper a Newborn.

Posted on 13 June 2006 by MommyKnows

One of the most asked questions we get at www.thebabymarketplace.com regarding cloth diapering is: what will I need to get started?

The basics:

  • 18-24 diapers

  • 4 – 6 covers

  • 24-36 diaper wipes

  • diaper pail
  • Okay, that is the easy part … now you want to know exactly what kind right?

That really is the tough part because every home is different and all parents have their preferences. With our newest baby Georgia we used:

  • MJ’s Sherpa Fitted Diapers (mix of velcro and snap)

  • Bummis Original Covers

  • Economy Diaper Wipes (sherpa is my favourite)
  • Seriously, this was by far the most successful newborn diaper system I have tried. It is BLOW OUT proof! For soon-to-be parents who don’t know what a BLOW OUT is—> Def: when the seriously loose BM of ALL newborns is expelled out the waist (usually makes it 3/4 of the way up babies back) and leg openings of diapers. Requires full change of clothing, swaddling blanket and very often a bath for baby and/or one or both parents.

If you are a disposable diapering parent with BLOW OUT issues —> my advice to you is to switch to cloth or swaddle (keeps the poop contained).

Now of course being a cloth diaper loving mom I had to have a few other diapers and covers in my stash and they are (in no order of importance):

  • Bummis Super Whisper Wraps Prints (love Froggy and Andy Pandy)

  • Bumkins Diaper Cover (love Dr Suess prints)

  • Chinese Prefolds (great for spares, under really trim fitting clothing and for burp rags)
  • Look how great this fits my 1 day old daugher Georgia in a small MJ’s and a small Bummis Original.

MommyKnows … babies and markers don’t mix!

Posted on 12 June 2006 by MommyKnows

Your probably wondering … “why if you know not to mix babies and markers is your BABY eating blue ink?” And my answer would be, “don’t just blame me there were 3 other adults in the room too!” Well 2 1/2 – one is just a teen-ager and the other a man, but still I’d prefer to share the blame. To be perfectly honest all 4 of us were working on various computers and my attention was focused on the great pictures of the newest product at www.thebabymarketplace.com—> BabyLegs (these really are cool). I was just really grateful she was quiet and not whining, which after 4 children I should have known meant TROUBLE.

Yikes, we are not sure what happened to our happy baby … about 5 weeks ago Georgia got sick and WHAM the nearly constant whining started, at first it was no big deal, she is a baby – she’s sick – she’ll get better and it will stop – right? NOPE … not right, if anything it is worse! Of course, this was only moments after patting ourselves on the back and congratulating ourselves on what a happy, bright and good tempered baby were raising. Of course, when your children are good it is 100% your doing, it’s absolutely the result of the finest and finely tuned parenting skills. When they are not behaving … well they probably picked that up from the sitter and other naughty children whos parents aren’t as skillful as you! (Don’t write me hate mail … I am joking). Moral of the story … ummm … don’t blow your own horn … ‘cause it will always come back and bite you on the ASS eek … BUTT.

    Any suggestions?

MommyKnows … cute shoes when she sees them!

Posted on 07 June 2006 by MommyKnows

I love these Bical Gripper shoes. I have them for both Sam (5 years old) and Georgia (11 months old). They have been great in the warm weather for Sam … they are easy to pull on and off and he thinks the sock/shoe combo is cool and loves that he can get them wet (Sam … leave the hose alone!). He gets them absolutely filthy and I have been able to just rinse them in soapy water and they are dry within 30-40 minutes and ready for the next day. They are easy to pack in my purse/diaper bag too (not bulky) and then I have them on hand for indoor playgrounds. No more slipping Sam when you are going UP the slide.

Sam has this cool car design and Georgia has some Froggies (there are 8 cute designs to choose from). The pink caterpillars are to die for, but there is a limit right (hurry Georgia and grow before we sell out!)?

Not only do these shoes look good, they SMELL awesome. REALLY … I’m not quite sure whether they spend more time in Georgia’s mouth or on her feet. Those great smelling rubbery soles make the perfect teething toy and must smell good enough to eat.

Try ‘em … you’ll LOVE ‘em!

    A Womb with a View!

Mommy knows a good product when she sees one (I should … you know … owning a baby store and all). The TummyTub gets 5*’s out of 5. It is quick and easy to use … just a few inches of water needed. It is sturdy and nearly impossible to tip over. It is light weight and easy to move around. Bath time is now in the kitchen (Georgia and TummyTub in one side of sink … mom does dishes on the other side) ... or the deck … or sometimes down at one end of the tub while mom showers at the other. We are planning to take it camping too!

But, really the best part of the TummyTub is Georgia loves it!
