Mandeville House After Katrina

Well, actually, she’s NOT and this isn’t her handy work in the front yard, but that of mother nature and more precisely Hurricane Katrina.

This picture of their new home on the north shore of Lake Ponchartrain was taken 3 weeks after Katrina. The hurricane managed to fill their home with more than 2’ of water.

Yes, I said “sleep deprivation” and I mean serious sleep deprivation. I know, I know … all of you had your children sleeping through the night the first week home. You’re all perfect! Really, you’d think I’d know what I’m doing, this being the 4th baby and all.

It’s just that this time is the last time (yes really!) and I want to make sure I don’t miss anything. So that’s why I can’t put her down. I’m mean if I put her down, I’ll, ummm, make her CRY. Georgia can really cry … bigger, louder and longer than all the rest. Well I think she can … I haven’t actually tested her. But she has a truely HUGE beginning cry and I am assuming that the middle and ending are just as BIG.

So I am becoming an expert at holding a baby and running a business. Holding a baby and making supper. Yes, calling for pizza counts! Holding a baby and trying to sleep. Oh yeah, this is where the sleep deprivation comes in … I can’t actually sleep and hold a baby. Well not for long anyway, but I am trying.

I know, I know—all you people who had your babies sleeping through the night the first week, put your itsy-bitsy, teeny-tiny helpless babies in their own beds. BUT, I can’t because Georgia is my last baby (yes really!) and I don’t want to miss a thing.

Mommy Knows … you shouldn’t feed the bears!

Posted on 24 September 2005 by MommyKnows

Really, I do know this, but my grandmother obviously doesn’t! Which certainly must be the reason that she befriended the bear cub she found living under the apple trees; fed him through the fall until that cute little cub became this nearly grown bear.

What you see on the above header is the family out saying “good-bye” after thanksgiving dinner. The nice little cub is being picked up by forestry personnel the next day. He was just getting too big to keep—could he possibly decide to eat Grandma and not apples?

NO, the kids are not in danger … right behind them is the house and a dozen adults.
